We recently returned from a 3 week trip to Italy that included 4 nights in Salerno. Luca Santulli, the owner of Salerno in Alto Mare, the bed and breakfast where we stayed, suggested Cicirinella in addition to three other restaurants for us to visit. Since I had earmarked Cicirinella before our trip as a potential dining spot, we decided to try it.

We could not have asked for a more delicious and enjoyable experience! We were greeted by Gigi - one of the co-owners of the restaurant. Gigi speaks a bit of English and we spoke a little Italian - more than enough. The menu - which we only used on our first of four visits to the restaurant - is updated daily. There is a fixed antipasti, three choices for a first plate and three (or more choices) for a second plate. Every dish we had at Cicirinella was fresh, tasty and beautiful to see - a sign of love and effort Ettore (the chef and co-owner of the restaurant) puts into each day's menu. The antipasti included roasted eggplant, pizza frito, and ricotta with honey - delicious starters to whet our appetites. Pasta courses included a penne (I think) with a spicy tomato-based sauce as well as some pasta with fresh seafood each night. Neither my daughter nor I are seafood eaters, but I gobbled up the pasta with clams and mussels - something my wife enjoyed each night. For our second (meat) plate, we enjoyed smoked cheese, the freshest most flavorful tuna we ever had, and Bisteca Fiorentina (brought over from Gigi and Ettore's other restaurant - Maialino Rosso - the Red Pig).

Each night we enjoyed our meals with bottles of the house red (also "Maialino Rosso") or white wine and finished each night with a delicious dolce (including an absolutely divine panna cotta) and Gigi's homemade limoncello.

Others have commented that the restaurant was expensive and perhaps by Salerno standards that might be true. Note that we dined for four nights in a row, eating multiple courses and drinking our fill and never spent more than 120 Euro for a dinner for 3 people. We spent almost double that amount on food in Rome. Heck, I spend more than that on dinner in Phoenix, AZ and I can't say I've ever had a better meal ... anywhere.

Do yourself a favor if you find yourself in Salerno's Centro Storico ... stop for a dining experience at Cicirinella. It's a treat you won't soon forget.

Great twist on Italian cuisine with a modern touch but while keeping an emphasis on great traditional tastes, flavours, and ingredients. The menu changes everyday with what the market will offer but i'm sure it'll always be fantastic!

I can really recommend this restaurant. The service is exceptional and so is the food. Their pastas are some of the best we've had and the fish is great too. You will need to book if you want to dine here at the weekend as, not surprisingly, it is very popular.

Based on Trip Advisor reviews, enjoyed our first dinner in Salerno at Cicirinella. The restaurant is north of the old city near the Duomo area. Google maps helped. The restaurant indicated that the menu changes daily. On our visit we each had an appetizer consisting of four different items (potato/tuna, beef croquette, pesto cheese & zucchini & one other tasty item). We then dined on one first course of pasta with arrabbiata sauce (tomatoes, capers & olives). The one second course was baked smoke cheese. For desert shared a warm apple and pastry cream dish. The house red wine was 5 euro a bottle. Total cost was just under 50 euro. Highly recommend.
