“Why stay in a B&B? This is why!”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

It is not just about saving money and often you can find cheaper hotels - it is about getting a richer experience. Francesco and his parents look after you so well that you will feel sad to leave them.

The B&B is in the heart of Salerno, 10 minutes walk from the station along a pedestrian street and 100m from the sea. Aside from Salerno itself you are ideally placed to visit Paestum, Amalfi, Pompeii and Naples. If these are on you list then Salerno is better placed than Sorrento and a lot more relaxing than Naples.

Accomodation is homely rather than luxurious as you would expect from a B&B. We stayed in the double with separate bathroom. A big comfortable bed and plenty of room. Crossing the corridor to the bathroom is not an issue as long as you remember your Pyjamas.

Mama looks after you at breakfast. There are the usual things as well as home made cake and Mama will cook you eggs if you want. Francesco will pick you up from the station if he can and gives good advice on where to eat, what to see in Salerno and how to get to the main places to visit from Salerno (Paestum, Pompeii, Caserta etc.).

If you have never tried B&B in Italy, this is a good place to start!

My husband and I stayed for 5 nights in September. Francesco and his father actually picked us up from the train station when we arrived. He was the perfect host!! After we settled in, he brought out snack and welcome drinks, then spent at least an hour going through all the information we need, including places to visit, restaurants, local transport etc.

Breakfast was cooked to order by Francesco's mum, Lena, who is a lovely lady. Lena can't speak any English but we had fun communicating anyway.

As with the location, you can't pick a better place. This is right in the middle of the town and yet it's not noisy as the apartment is tucked in the back of the building.

There are 4 bedrooms in the apartment and we stayed in 1 with ensuite. We got to meet other lovely people who stayed there at the same time, 1 couple from England and another from USA. We had a lot of fun having drinks and sharing our stories on the terrace.

Francesco is very passionate with what he does, and kept asking us what he can do to improve his service.

We had a really good time.

Room Tip: Room with terrace though we didn't get to stay there.

My father, sister and I stayed at Salerno Centro for 2 nights in August. The morning we were to arrive my father fracured his front tooth. I had Francesco's cell phone and I tested inquiring if he could help us find a dentist to help us. Not only did he arrange an appointment, he personally escorted us to the dentist office and translated for us. A temporary fix was arranged to get my dad through the rest of the vacation without difficulty. We were so appreciative for the help.
The rooms are simple, spacious, and comfortable. It was quite hot in August so it was a little warm at night, but the terrace and fan helped. the location is wonderful. Close to shopping, restaurants and walking distance to the ferry and train.
Francesco arranged for a parking space for our car so we did not have to worry about it during our stay. He made sure we got our car and helped with directions to our next destination.
We truly felt like we were staying with family. We feel fortunate that we met Francesco.

Very personal service! Francesco even let us park our car in his family private garage. B & B is on second floor- 4 or 5 rooms with private bathrooms and some with terrace. The breakfast served by Francesco's mother was wonderful- coffee's, meats, cheeses, rolls, jams, cakes and more. When we arrived we were asked to sit at a table on the terrace and told of all the things to do in Salerno and the Amalfi Coast. It is truly family run, by Francesco, his mother and father.

Salerno Centro B&B exceeded our every expectation. It is located in a beautiful quaint building. Our room was lovely with a very nice terrace. The location was perfect, being right on a fun oiazza, just a block from the promenade and water. We had corresponded with owner, Francesco , prior to our trip. He gave us so much information in advance, it made our trip planning go smooth. Then as our plans changed and we had to lose one day in Salerno, we didn't want to miss out on too many sites, Francesco offered to be our driver to all the sites and he even picked us up from our overnight ferry in Naples! His safe driving took the anxiety out of our travels. This personalized service was very much worth the extra cost, which was very fair. Francesco was very kind, gave us great tips on local eateries and sites, and was just the perfect host. He literally spent 3 days with our family and treated us like he had known us forever. Because we were traveling with our daughter who had spent the summer on a farm in so. Italy, making cheese, he even recommended a tour of the organic buffalo mozzarella farm just knowing we would probably enjoy that, which was in fact a highlight! His parents are lovely people who also extended their hospitality to us in an extremely warm way. Lovely people, and I feel like we found friends in them forever. So grateful for our time in this lovely town with these beautiful people.

Room Tip: We thoroughly enjoyed the room with the terrace.

We stayed in Salerno Centro for 3 nights- it was perfect from beginning to end. Francesco and his father picked us up from the train station without even being asked- And when we had settled into our lovely bedroom with a terrace, Francesco invited us to have coffee and a chat about the local area and what we'd like to do. He even loaned us a few books about Pompei and Herculaneum. Salerno itself is lovely- it feels like the real Italy- and is much cheaper than Rome or anywhere on the Amalfi coast. It's also very straightforward to get a 20-minute train to Pompei.

I would highly recommend this lovely B&B- it's spotless, breakfast is lovely (with nut cake baked by mama Lena), and Francesco goes above and beyond the call of duty to help you in any way. Thanks Francesco, and be sure to email us if you're ever in Ireland, so that we can extend the same hospitality to you:)

We intended to stay 1 night, and ended up staying 3! Salerno Centro was perfectly situated to walk anywhere, our hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful, the breakfast on the terrace was delicious, and the Amalfi room & bathroom very well equipped. HIGHLY recommended.

Room Tip: The Amalfi room cost a little more, but so worth it for our own private terrace.
