My husband and I researched 10 hotels in Amalfi searching for one which would be suitable for our walking group, 'Country Walks'. We opted for the Residence for several reasons: it is minutes from the main cathedral piazza and yet faces the sea; it is very close to buses and boats for easy transport to other parts of the Amalfi Coast; it is family-run and the staff are all local, very friendly and unfailingly helpful; the hotel is a former small palace and is furnished with beautiful antiques; all rooms have balconies with stunning views over the harbour and stylish and very efficient bathrooms; the breakfasts are excellent and can be taken on the terrace overlooking the sea (a perfect place too for evening drinks). We were not disappointed with our choice, having now taken a total of over 60 people on four different occasions to stay at The Residence for a week. Our clients, without exception, loved the hotel and some have even returned a second time.

Room Tip: The only minor complaint was that one or two people with sleeping difficulties found the rooms at the front of the hotel noisier than would be ideal. However, with the double-glazing and shutters closed, we have not personally found this to be a problem. After all this is Italy and to our mind any slight noise is more than compensated by the magnificent views over the harbour and promenade.

This hotel sits on the waterfront in Amalfi and to the rear you have the main piazza which thrives on the hub bub of visitors from across the globe, as they stroll and eat under the famous bell tower.

The welcome on arrival was warm and friendly and we were quickly shown to a smart superior double room that overlooked the side street but still had views of the sea and the square.

Room was plain white, had contrasting blue and cream furnishings, was a good size and importantly - comfortable.

There was some room noise but it's not the kind you may have in your local city neighbourhood of car alarms, shouting and police sirens. The noise was of a jazz band, of people eating and enjoying themselves.

Having arrived the day before we were tired from travelling, missed breakfast but made our way to the terrace which was bathed in sunlight and overlooked a cobbled junction, tree lined boulevard and the sea. We arrived 35 minutes after breakfast had finished and asked for coffee and pastries, the staff were happy to oblige and didn't charge extra for this which was a nice touch.

The hotel also has a 20 Euro deal for car parking (cheap by Amalfi standards).

It's really worth making the short walk to the ancient town of Atrani which is adjacent to Amalfi - we went at about 7:30pm for food and it was quiet except for the film set experience of local people, their children and pets, either sitting on the church steps or playing in shimmering water fountain.

Would thoroughly recommend this hotel to other travellers.

We stayed 4 nights in the beginning of September (2012)..
Location is excellent, so is the stuff. Room was nice with a balcony faced the sea.
A full breakfast in a beautiful dining room that includes a large terrace facing the sea.
Stuff was very helpful when needed .
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Facing the sea with a balcony made it nice for us.

This charming hotel is located in the heart of Amalft across the street from the beach, the ferries and the buses. No need to look for other hotels .. this is the one to chose. Restaurants are nearby with delicious fresh food, especially fish dishes. Francesco at the front desk is very helpful and speaks English.

Room Tip: The rooms have been renovated and are charming.

This hotel is just amazing,.
We went here for out honey moon and weren't disappointed.
It's a small hotel with approximately 25 rooms close to the sea and city centre of Amalfi.
You can reach the bus terminal for further transport along the amalfi coast just a minute away from the hotel entrance.

The staff is fantastic, they prevent all your needs before you even ask.
They also make the most fantastic bellini with aperitivo with reasonable prices.
Rooms are clean and modern, air condition keeps the room as cold as you like.
They clean twice a day and make your bed ready at night. In the reception they helped us with booking a table to the restaurant as well as guide us on how to get to the different locations around Amalfi.

Breakfast is of high standard and can preferrably be eaten out at the terass when weather permits. Don't forget to ask the waiter for a cappucino.
