“Over-rated hotel in Amalfi”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

This hotel is pleasantly located from a fifteen minute walk into the town center but needs to update facilites to acquire the four star status it advertises. Decor is defintely from the 60's and 70's. The main reception area is depressing and dark with too many green foliage plants that makes you feel that the designer just wanted to import a green area from a nursury store. No planning at all. Wi-fi is only available from this area and works only inconsistently. Very frustating.

Rooms are clean but minimalist. Upgraded rooms offer not much more from the basic rooms. clean tile floors, basic room furnishing. After staying in rooms at a four star status such as the Grand Royal in Sorrento, the Le Agavi, in Positano, the La Palumbo in Ravello, and the Weber Ambassor in Capri, our "superior" room here was disappoining to say the least. We paid the same prices but found rooms and the hotel not up to par. I had requested a "superior" room with terrace but ended up with a standard room on the left side of the hotel that had been upgraded with a "jacuccui" tub which was a basic tub with jets in it and the tubs were not new, hey looked recycled. We had a room with a balcony that allowed two people to sit outside, in a cramped way and the fabulous view of Amalfi was above the dirty and litttered rooftop of the restaurant. Cigaratte butts, empty liquor bottles, not pretty. Then on our first, disappointing night, the air conditioning began to leak in the hall between the wardrobe and the bathroom. We called the concierage, they promised to move us to a better room, but as it was late, and I knew they were booked when I asked for a differnt room earlier, we would be taken care of in thmorning. They then moved us to a lesser room, a "standard room", which we liked better because we could sit on our miniscule balcony without the garbage.

Next day we did request a refund for the difference between the two levels of room but were told the manager said no, we had chosen to leave our room. This was over the top. We were not given the room that we had booked to start with. The superrior rooms on the right side of the hotel apparently were more like the ones advertrised. We had talked with others in those rooms with the terrace and the superior classificaiton but even they felt they were not up to four star staus.

In the end we were only given a forty Euro discount and when we returned from dinner our third night the concierge told us they had been looking for us to offer us a free dinner. Well, she saw us walking out to dinner at about six o'clock and could have stopped us to tell us this but this did not happen. She said they were busy but did acknowledge us leaving so what was going on? We were in the hotel at the pool all afternoon. Do they not have the capability to put a message on the phone to contact the concierge? We think this decison to offer the free meal came very late. We repeatedly asked to talk to the manager; he was not on site, he never made the effort to meet us or phone us. The poor concierge staff merely passed on his dictums. Never have I stayed in a hotel over thirty years of travelling throughout the world, have I been in a hotel where I felt the management did not want to make our stay pleasant and satisfying. It was a nightmare. It totally ruined our enjoyment of Amalfi. If we could have changed hotels we would have done it but it was a prepaid, non-refundable booking and no way were they going to compensate us. This is the last time I will ever do a non-refundable booking.

The staff were not unpleasant but were not really tuned to making guests feel welcome or special. We had a horrible, expensive lunch, the waitors were indifferent, not at all friendly or welcoming. We decided to not have any meals after the first lunch before the room business became an issue. They were there to do the job and that was it.

If you book this hotel, take the cheapest room, expect a salt water pool that is underfilled so that you feel like you are swimming in a hole, basic food, and really not a happy place to be. I have never written a poor review in over thirty years but now I have. I hope this place can improve service and credulity as to the rooms they offer because I really feel what was adverised was not up to the mark. A special trip we had planned for a forty year anniversary over four weeks in Campania; all four star and five star hotels delivered what was advertised but this place we would gladly have missed. It actually made me cry to see how we treated and what we received for our money.

Room Tip: Choose the cheapest rooms because the more expensive ones are not that much different other than siz...

This is a pretty nice hotel though a little dated in places like the main lounge. Breakfast is served on a lovely terrace overlooking the sea. Breakfast options are OK rather than great. The room was lovely - bright and fresh and spotlessly clean. Worth spending a bit extra on a superior room as you get a bigger terrace but all rooms have amazing sea views. It is a 15/20 minute walk into Amalfi itself which is fine but quite a steep climb.

The Miramalfi has a super location on the coast, with wonderful views from all public areas and most rooms. Staff are quite friendly and efficient and seem happy to be of service. A/C in the rooms works properly and can be set to function almost silently. No wi-fi in the rooms (lobby only, which incidentally could do with a bit of new furniture), which is a severe fault.
The sea water pool is ok, but the sea is better if you are a decent swimmer and the sea is calm (otherwise is too difficult to get in and out.
Food is not exceptional (you will most likely eat better and at similar prices in many of the restaurants in the Amalfi area and beyond); as an example, "peas and carrots" (probably coming fom a deep freezer) doesn't strike me as a typical regional and seasonal vegetable with fish...

Room Tip: Standars doubles are a bit cramped; superior doubles are much better and a good investment; try to g...

As always, service will define how enjoyable stay and comfortable a place a given hotel is.
This property rates high for service, especially their bar, pool and restaurant staff. Incredibly friendly and fantastically gracious.
The hotel is a convenient and lovely walk to town centre, altho a taxi return journey is recommended on a hot humid afternoon. Beautiful views and great photo opportunities.
But there is no internet access in the room nor the restaurant. Incredible and not to be believed !!! This was a problem for me as I had bits of work to do every morning - not by choice of course. The interiors require a serious rennovation - they are old and tired.
The "beach", pool and pool bar are not stellar but fun and laid back.
No English TV news channels.

Room Tip: Ask for the above average size balcony. The small ones are quite stingy with space.

This hotel is not overly luxurious, but has other features that offset the basic rooms. The view from the balconies of the sea view rooms is stunning. The lounge area, altough small, is comfortable and also stunning vies of Amamlfi and the ocean. The restaurant is the same and if you have a package with two meals included, it's exellent value and really good food. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and they provide a shuttle service in to Amalfi and back, twice a day.
The atmosphere in the hotel makes for a relaxing holiday. Unfortunately, the weather was shocking, which wasn't their fault of course, but we were extremely disappointed to learn that the management don't put water in the pool until around May, and we were not aware of this. We were holidaying in April and thought we were going to a hotel that had a fully functional pool area. Overall, a great value hotel for a summer stay, although the hallways are extremely noisy.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a balcony and an ocean/ Amalfi view and a package that includes breakf...

I can't understand how anyone could pick fault with this hotel. The location, quality, value for money is unbeatable. My children delighted in jumping into the sea from the rocks. The blue parasols of the hotel fluttering in the breeze and the sun loungers perched haphazardly upon the rocks. Understated luxury! I have travelled the world, but seldom been so
Impressed. The view from the terrace is awe inspiring & magnificent. The staff are warm and friendly. I felt like Dorothy returning home to Kansas. Go and explore the many local restaurants and enjoy, Amalfi at its very best. I am booking for next year! I love Miramalfi!!!

Lovely hotel especially the swimming platform for the sea. Friendly and helpful staff. However there were no English speaking TV channels at all, the wi fi was not free and was incredibly slow and hit and miss., room on the small side. This compared unfavourably with the hotel we stayed in in Rome which was cheaper and had free wi fi and BBC world. The walk back to the hotel is quite a climb in hot weather and the bus service to and from the hotel is limited. Probably better off to stay nearer the town. Amalfi is expensive but not sure this hotel is great value for money.
