“Fabulous honeymoon hotel-heavenly experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2009

We looked for ages to find the right hotel for the second week of our honeymoon. We were not disappointed; the hotel reception rooms were glamourous and beautifully decorated with antiques and pristine white squashy sofas; the floors were handmade white tiles decorated with a profusion of painted flowers. Everywhere we looked was a Wow. The restaurant was a triumph with open air terrace and spectacular views and breakfast here was a joy with the most delicious pastries and fresh fruit that we've ever tasted. Dinner at the Catarina was delicious and the service from all of the staff was amazing ; most of them had been there for many years and they created a wonderful ambience and old fashioned service that many hotels dont give now. The General Manager, Mr Armondo, was one of the nicest people I have met, he escorted us to a wonderful junior suite set in its own grounds that was like being in heaven. The interior was all white and gold with magnificent views from all sides of the room; the jacuzzi being situated in front of the side window for that wow factor. The bathing platform and pool area were cleverly designed; being fashioned from the rocks right at the bottom of the cliff. This was James Bond glamour! We had the Med as our own swimming pool and top class service from the staff. Although expensive, it was worth every penny and we had a wonderful honeymoon experience that we will never forget. Bravo!

We arrived at the Santa Caterina in late October and stayed for four night leaving on November 2, 2009. We drove in our rental car from Naples to the hotel. DON'T EVER GO TO NAPLES!! If you can, take a train to Sorrento instead and rent a car from there.

The hotel was/is absolutely AMAZING. I think they'd brush your teeth for you if you asked them. Our room had a balcony (all the rooms do, I think) overlooking the sea and to the left you could see the actual town of Amalfi. We had Proseco (I hate Champagne anyway) upon our arrival, with an assortment of Italian cookies and quite a large plate of fresh fruit to enjoy.

Our room was extremely white...I think all the rooms are. I loved that is was white....one reviewer complained that there is no art on the wall...but that is the esthetic beauty of the room, it envelops you in white and entices you to want to go on the balcony and experience the blue of the water and the lush green gardens below.

The service was/is spectacular. Keep in mind, we went during the last week of October, early November, so we had no issues with a crowded pool area, reserved seating with respect to lounges around the pool area (read in another review). Everything here is expensive, that shouldn't be a negative about the place...anyone who has written a review complaining about the price of everything, shouldn't have gone there, it is to be expected. We were on our honeymoon so we did splurge on this hotel and knew it was going to be expensive. We had breakfast there every morning and the breakfast is truly wonderful. The options are endless and it is a buffett, so you can fill up, lol! We had dinner there once, only because it is very expensive. The dinner was excellent and the service was too. We were on our last leg of our honeymoon and we had a very busy itenerary early on...it was nice to truly relax at the Santa Caterina and be waited on.

There are some reviews on here mentioning that you only get good service if they know you're a regular or if you tip well. The only time we tipped was when we asked to eat breakfast outside on the terrace. Keep in mind we're Canadian, so although it may have been too cold to eat outside, we thought it was warm! We tipped because they had to actually set a table for us and they did it with such ease and made it look exactly like the table inside and we weren't made to feel as though we inconvenienced someone.

We literally spend all day at the hotel...by the pool (for two of our four days, we could actually swim as the water in the pool was very warm 27 C). They have books to read which are scattered throughout the hotel and there are some very good selections, you just have to look...after being at the pool all day, we would take advantage of the shuttle service and have lunch in town and then walk back to the hotel and then nap and again, take the shuttle back down to the town and have dinner there. We also had a rental car and went to Ravello for the day.

If my husband and I are ever in a position to afford to go to the Santa Caterina (we really saved for this because it was our honeymoon) we would definately go there again and again. Just a great place to relax and be pampered.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights at the S Caterina in late October. It was amazing. Our room was immaculate with a nice balcony that overlooked the town of Amalfi and the water. The pool area and other facilties were beautiful and very well kept. While expensive, our dinner was well worth the price and we enjoyed every moment of it. Also, our breakfasts were an absolute delight. It was a great start to each morning. Last, the staff was very helpful and the service was top notch. We had a great time and I would highly recommend this hotel to others.

Just got back from Italy and must say that Amalfi was a highlight of our trip. Can't compare it to busy Positano. If u are looking for some serenity this is a place to stay. Cant say enough about their service. As expected in 5star hotel. During our trip in Italy every hotel was at least 4 or 5 star, but Santa Caterina was simply the best. Concierges are wonderful and will go beyond their duties to accomodate u. Would do it again for sure.
Big plus for those who cant survive without internet - wifi or hook up in the room is free!!!

The experience at Santa Caterina was one of the most amazing and memorable of our lives. The room was quite and peaceful with all of the amenities of any 5 star we've ever visited... the homemade cookie tray in our room upon arrival was over the top. The hotel staff feels like your extended family (if your extended family is warm and loving). The pool experience is unmatched... the pool bar has counters piled with fresh fruit to make the most delicious blended drinks. Diving off the pool deck into the ocean and playing in the waves after the sun has dipped behind the cliff right before dusk is a must-do. The restaurants are great... breakfast buffet is to die for with their homemade pastries and marmalade. This hotel is worth every penny.

We have spend 10 days in the hotel. In general I must say that we have enjoyed the place and we would go back when travelling to this location. It has clearly the best location in town - up on the hill with great views but also private access to the sea. So you dont need to go out to the crowded public beach in town. The service and food is excellent but extremelly overpriced - (non-alcohholic fruit mix drink by the pool -17EUR). Service can often depend on level of tipping and its frequency. Rental of private boat trips are also extremely overpriced - prices start at 1000 EUR/day for small 5-6 seatter. Most rooms are spacious and with the sea view, however they can get pretty noisy at night if you happen to have some load neighbours or it the big cruiseships are parked righ out of hotel for the night - having a disco on the deck until late night.
