The road is very scenic and from the bus there is less time to admire there views ,its better to walk a part of the area on a footpath. Both Amalfi and Positano merit attention as well as the smaller villages.

This is a spectacular drive along the Italian coast. If you have the opportunity to it, take it. Not for people who have a fear of or don't like heights as this road has 1190 hairpin turns over about a 50 km distance (or so I was told). Each time the road turns a new vista opens up, each one different than the next. You will see lemon and olive groves, the homes of celebrities, old watchtowers that now may be converted into restaurants, and cliff hanging villas that seem to defy gravity. There are spots along the road that have turnouts for great pictures. When you get to the town of Amalfi stop and explore this beautiful place. Handmade paper is an excellent souvenir - there is a small shop just inside the "gate" of the city (down a couple of steps) that has excellent variety and quality. If you are a cruise ship passenger taking the tour from Sorrento, get to your tour bus as fast as you can and get a seat on the right (door) side of the bus as this is the side that will give the best ocean views (check with the driver or guide to make sure). The best seat is usually the front one or the one behind the rear door exit as you will have one very long unobstructed side window to see from.

A real highlight of our trip, stunning scenery. We travelled by bus to Amalfi, scary but exciting at the same time. Then on the way back we stopped off at Positana, for a dip in the sea before catching the ferry back to Sorrento, a lovely journey sat on the top deck, (we even got the chance to swim from the boat) soaking up the sun, while marvelling at the wonderful scenic views.

A friend had been telling us about this drive along the coast for years, so we had to see for ourselves when we finally got to visit Italy. Wow! The views as you drive down the coast are spectacular. The "roller coaster road," to quote our bus tour guide, was as exciting as the views were magnificent. Though you better get a seat on the sea-side if you really want to get the most out of the trip. The stop in the little town of Amalfi was very enjoyable. Wondering along the narrow streets, stopping in the various shops, having a lemon gelato, all on a lovely bright spring day. What could be better? We also took a boat tour from Amalfi along the beautiful coast for a different view of the amazing road and the various celebrity villas. Lots more great photo opportunities on-board as in an additional stop in the town of Ravello. This was right near the top of my list of things we did during our three-week Italian adventure.

If you are on the Sorrentine Peninsula, then it is a must that you do the Amalfi Coast Road, the views are absolutely stunning, how they managed to build the roads, well I hope they all got medals. If, like my wife, you don't like heights, then make sure that you sit in the vehicle away from the sea side because some of the drops are just sheer. Everyone should do this tourist trip, go on, you know it makes sense.
