This hotel is located in the ancient cave dwelling section called Sassi in Matera. Each room / suite is unique unto itself and are modernized cave homes from hundreds (maybe thousands) of years ago. The entire Sassi area has the feel of Jerusalem. The breakfast was outstanding and the service friendly and efficient. For me, it was the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at.

We stayed 2 nights in this romantic and wonderful hotel.

The hotel room is in a cave and has a fantastic atmosphere.

Breakfast is very good.

The highlight is the therme pool. Massage by Victoria was great.

We will come back again!

Our room was just outside the main reception area, but many rooms were fitted about hight up the hill, which is ok if you are fit enough. Anyone can wander about these alleyways. Our room was like many others I presume carved into the rock and it certainly had a charm about it. The bathroom had a spa bath in it. The spa facilities of the hotel cost €20 each to use so gave them a miss. Breakfast was varied and plentyfull.

It's a very good located hotel with nice views the room was nice like a small cave the bed I didn't like it was to hard and old I think! The breakfast was a bit simple! The think I didn't like at all is that even the guests of the hotel they had to pay to enter is the swimming pool cause is not a thermal for sure the water is not hot at all and it was full of people I believe the guest's must enter for free in the swimming pool cause the rooms are not cheap !!!

This is a beautiful hotel set in the rocks of Matera. We stayed in room 74 which is a bit away from the actual hotel. Our room had a spa tub set off of the main room in its own mini-cave, a cave shower and separate bathroom. The room was quiet and clean. It is a hike over to the main hotel for breakfast. The breakfast had many offerings with a choice of coffee, tea or espresso. We looked in some of the rooms at the main location and they were much smaller than our room. We had an outside patio area with chairs, a table an umbrella.
Cons - It was difficult to find the hotel and I would not recommend having a car. The room was a bit musty being in a cave with lots of moisture in the air. The dehumidifier ran constantly and was a bit noisy. It is a 5 - 7 minute walk to breakfast - this was not a problem for us, but could be for some.

Room tip: The rooms away from the main hotel are the bigger rooms.
