After exploring the Sassi on foot, walk in the park for a few hours if you can, to see the rock churches, the interesting flora, and for the amazing views back to Matera with the Duomo and other churches and sassi. It gives such a different perspective from that of walking through the narrow stone streets closed in by buildings. The paths are for the most part well marked and maintained.
