We stayed in a large, first floor room, stylish and comfortable, well furnished, with an adjoining small room, and open to the courtyard terrace, There was even a nice view of the caves out the small window. Parking was conveniently close by and the location was perfect for traveling through town as well as wandering the streets of Matera, a beautiful old town and area. Wish we'd stayed more than one night so we could have hiked the cave area. Enzo offered useful information of the town, provided a basic coffee and croissant breakfast in the morning. Fairly quiet although voices and footsteps of guests in the room above let us know we were not alone. Ate a great salad at a cafe by the church near by, and strolled through the busier, more modern town area, a nice blend of old and not-so-old. Although we noticed other B & Bs as we walked around, Agora Nei Sassi is very conveniently accessible, comfortable, and classy.

This was a very fortunate find and I would highly recommend it. Enzo the owner couldn't be more helpful and the rooms were full of atmosphere, clean and comfy. Matera is a fascinating place and grows on you. Definitely a place to stay for more than one day.

Beautifully situated with a view of the sassi and cliffs, the rooms are clean, tasteful and comfortable - missing nothing other than wi-fi (soon to be provided). Breakfast is served on an enormous terrace outside the adjoining caffe. The staff are cheerful and go out of their way to be helpful. Take an evening passegiata up the hill to the Piazza del Duomo to mingle with the locals.

I recently travelled to Matera to visit the sassi and thoroughly enjoyed the stay at this hotel. Enzo met us and guided us to the hotel parking. He let us use the room connecting to ours since it was low season. He showed us the various rooms in the hotel, and it is quite impressive. The room we had was very comfortable.
In the morning, we woke up to beautiful sunshine, and were served breakfast on the terrace outside; hot cappuccino, cornetti, freshly squeezed orange juice.
We had a great stay here and would return without a doubt.

Room Tip: I believe some rooms have air-conditioning if you're interested. The room on the top floor is la...

This was a real find and Enzo was a great host - he went out of his way to make us welcome. He has worked so hard to make this accomodation a really comfortable stay. Just a pity there was no air con or we'd have stayed a second night...it was really hot.
Matera is a dream place and so worth the extra mileage. Take the time to wander around the caves and then drive to the other side of the gorge and take even more pictures.
Thank you Enzo and good luck with your dreams...a real treat in 4 weeks of seeing the sights of Italy

arrived at matera / sassi area, what a beautiful place ! even more amazing was the agora nei sassi accommodation. our host , enzo , was the most helpful and accommodating person we've ever met- showing us to a beautiful room/cave and later telling us about his passion for building a new restaurant that will soon be completed for his guests. i would very highly recommend this accommodation to any and everyone.the price was more than value for money and in a very good location.i wish there was more time that we could have spent there!! enzo if you are reading this ...good luck with the restaurant, keep making your dreams into reality and thanks so much for looking after us! cheers from helen and rob / australia.

Room Tip: we stayed on the ground level opposite the restaurant to be...lovely.

We arrived in Matera on a Satuday, by car, with no resevations. I really wanted to stay in a cave room in the Sassi, and we were lucky enough to discover this newly renovated B&B, which is located adjacent to Baccanti restaurant on Via Madonna della Virtu. The pictures on their web-site do not do justice to the facility. We stayed in a very romantic ground floor room with one huge wall and partial ceiling being carved into the limestone rock. This wall started behind the bed and curved up and over the bed like an amazing gigantic headboard . The lighting on this cave feature was truly stunning at night. The ceilings were rounded and featured exposed brick. The bathroom, with shower, was sparkling and new and everything worked well. The towels and linens were lovely and the bed very comfortable. No hint of dampness in this cave room either, due to some technique used in it's renovation. Our room had an adjoining room with a single bed and a 2nd ensuite bathroom which would work well for a couple travelling with another adult or a child. The location, on the edge of Sasso Caveoso, had wonderful views overlooking the archaeolgical park across the valley in one direction and back up over the Sassi in the other direction. Free parking within 100 or so meters, which is very unusual in the Sassi, was an added bonus. You can walk everywhere in the two Sassi's from this location and because it is on the edge and near the San Pietro church, you can always find your way home. Enzo, the proprietor, spoke good English, was very charming and went out of his way to help us. Enzo brought us fresh croissants and coffee and hot milk from a nearby bar for breakfast and we took our table and chairs outside and ate on the patio admiring the views. He is in the process of renovating another cave on his property were he will have his own little bar from which to serve breakfast. He also has a 3rd cave on the property which was a church, which he hopes to restore one day.The price was 70 euros a night but because we stayed 3 nights we got a special rate of 60 euros a night. The room and the host were an unexpected delight and the highlight stay of our 4 week Italian trip.
