Sassolino the B&B we stayed in at Matera was absolutly wonderful. My husband & I experienced great hospitality from Lino & members of the family. Nothing was too much trouble. We were right in the centre of the Sassi & the spectacular view from the small courtyard & the window was amazing. Parking was easy as usually when driving it can be a nightmare. We highly recommend Sassolino if your travelling to that part of Italy & we highly recommend visiting Matera if your in Italy. The history is amazing.

This place needs to blow its little horn more. It's in a great location, the rooms are each unique (and there are only two so it's super quiet), the restaurants nearby are terrific and there's a store selling artisinal wares right in the basement. The owners are gracious and enthusiastic about helping but are not busibodies. The morning of our departure we were served a homemade pound cake to die for. THey really take care of their guests! Matera is a very cool city to explore and this place is perfectly situated. We were in the downstairs bedroom: spacious and comfortable--built right into a cave, like so many places in Matera. Super!

Located in the heart of Sasso Caveoso is a great base for walking around Matera. Free parking space is available along the street. Room was comfortable, breakfast was ok.
On the downside: We had the upper room and it had actually no windows (except for the 'internal' window facing the breakfast room), which made the ventilation problematic - it was not hot in the room (good isolation of thick walls), but it was rather stifling during the night.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms - try to get the one with the window.

Right in the Sassi Caveoso part, on one minute walking distance of Piazza San Pietro Caveoso where we easily could park our car for free. Great hospitality by the owners and their family, warm, friendly, la vita e bella atmosphere all over! We used the upper room, lots of space, good quality bed (!) and downstairs a large space with kitchen and lots of food being supplied for breakfast. Enjoyed the terrace with excellent view. Owners run a shop next door with typical products form the area. For local economy lovers, like me, an heaven on earth! Don't forget to make an hour tour with Paolo in his Piaggio, you won't forget it, ask him to show his paradise! Paolo normally is to find at the Piazza San Pietro Caveoso. We will be back!

Room Tip: We loved the upper room, large and very beautiful!

In the old town, but just a few steps from public parking, this B & B eliminates the long treks to B & B's within the old town. I do hate the noisy clatter of my rolley-bag on stones! A manager is in the shop below and always a few steps away for help and to answer questions. They were extremely helpful and put us in touch with a guide, without whom we would not have had the greatest experience of our vacation. The 2 rooms available are new and extremely comfortable. The upper room requires that one descend a staircase to access the bathroom, but it is fully private. The lower room is on one level with bath.
Outside both rooms is the living room/breakfast room, available to guests at all times, with a lovely view of the sassi and old town.

Room Tip: Take a look at the photos on line. The upper room has a wall of milk glass to let in light, but no...

We booked out the entire house with our party of six occupying two rooms. The owners Lino and Grazia were very hospitable and generous and kind. The fridge was stuffed with juices and water and milk and breakfast was plentiful with a delicious homemade butter cake by Grazia. House was well designed and clean. We enjoyed the patio with a great view of the sassi. Our party enjoyed the house very much and the location was superb.

Room Tip: The upstairs room is bigger but the private bathroom is on the ground floor. The downstairs room is...

Nice B&B in a good location at the bottom of the sassi. Lots of privacy, nice room and well furnished. Minimal breakfast, but generally a nice stay. Matera is beautiful and the B&B has a nice terrace with a great view of the caverns
