Well Located, Luxe Hotel

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 29, 2018via mobile
While it does not have the same “cave” charm as the grotto hotels, Gattini has its own charm via the luxe and beautiful accommodations, the views of the sassi, and the helpful staff. Our room was lovely, with a good size bathroom and comfy seating areas. We only stayed at the hotel for one night, but the staff was quite helpful in transferring us from our other local hotel, arranging our dinner reservation, and making sure our needs were met. The only minor issue we had was with the AC, which really did not cool the room, but again it was only one night so it was manageable. It was also an easy walk into the main part of town from the hotel and to other parts of the sassi.

We stayed here for two nights this past week. I would highly recommend this hotel. The rooms were unique, large, and luxurious. The location is great (right by the Duomo), and the service was the best we received in Italy. Breakfast is very high quality. Our sever (Bena?) was incredibly sweet and kind. Reception staff always greeted us with very warm smiles, which was much appreciated. Lovely hotel in an amazing place.

The setting is spetacular, a 9.000-year-old city, and the place, a 1.000-year-old palazzo.Together with great staff, exquisite restaurant, and elegant rooms (I went there with my wife and with my parents-in-law), this was one of the highlights for us in Matera. The fact that such an old construction does not have garage for cars was well managed with the local transfer provided by the hotel to a parking nearby. The rooms with a view to the Duomo are great, so is the room with a view to the montain of Sassi.

Room tip: View to the Duomo or to the sassi. The rooms in the corner are more spacious

Located in the Centro Historico the Palazzo Gattini is a five-star hotel in every sense. Service is impeccable at all levels: dining room, bar, room, check-in. The hotel is strategically located within walking distance of the many stores and restaurants that make Matera the must-see city that it is. If your travels take you to Basilicata, this is the hotel for you.

Our rooms were beautiful with the most comfortable bed that we encountered in our 3 weeks in Italy. We had a little trouble with the wifi but it was functional enough for us to keep on top of work at home. The location was amazing with views of the city everywhere you looked. The staff was very helpful and responded quickly to questions and requests. They set up a trip for us to the cave side of Matera. Our only complaint was our confusion when we arrived in Matera as to where to go with our rental car. I called the hotel and they gave me great directions and sent a van to pick us up. It would have been a little easier for us if we had been emailed instructions prior to arriving in the city. The breakfast was perfect and the women serving us were friendly and helpful. The spa is gorgeous and worth a visit. We used the Turkish bath and pool and really enjoyed our time there. This was my favorite hotel from this trip to Italy. I would definitely recommend it.

This lovely old hotel is situated right in the centre of town in the Cathedral Square. Everything is smart and well maintained and the glass elevators are a delight. Service was excellent. There are many restaurants within walking distance, but of course involving many, many steps.
