Just got back from ten days in this classico apartment. At various times I mentally wrote reviews on it, some waxing lyrical about it’s captivating charm and some just rants about the noise of one kind or another. But on my last day there, I realised I was going to really miss that reassuring, mellow toll of the Cathedral bell, on the hour and half hour, that is all part of the energy of the place where one minute a wandering minstrel goes by playing a guitar, the next, the dumper truck. Yes, of course there was noise, but we got over it! I was well and truly charmed.
We soaked up the atmosphere of being within stepping distance of the Plaza del Manises by the Cathedral (that houses the Holy Grail) and a short walk further to the Plaza del Rei. Cafes, bars and restaurants abound and as I let the old town wrap itself around me and lead me through the warrens of narrow streets and surprise plazas, the fact that the upstairs neighbours were rennovating seemed more about my karma than anything else.
I digress. I loved it. Built in the 1830s, it had uncommon character and Charm. The photos do it justice. The towels and sheets were spotlessly clean and there was plenty hot water and old fashioned rads making the place cozy and welcoming. The memory foam mattresses seemed new, firm and extremely comfortable. Choice of feather and foam pillows.
Juan is an excellent host with a big, generous smile. He was waiting outside when our taxi arrived, carried our bags up the stairs and made us so welcome. He was there within 10 minutes when the heating went off one day, (pilot light, behind window in bathroom, instructions in English!) and arranged taxis to pick us up at the airport and bring us back. There was complimentary water, coffee, tea and bowl of fruit to get us started and a good hob and toaster was great for breakfasts, (though I couldn’t figure out the oven, duh, instructions Juan? so the next visitors can enjoy the pizza! ; ) ). The old fashioned coffee percolator fitted right in and made a nice coffee!
Just up the street is a Carrefour mini mart, farmacias and other shops. It’s a great location for exploring the old town and at the end of the road, through the impressive Torres de Serranos gate you can cross the bridge and get a tranvîa to the beach. That wasn’t so easy, but a charming French boy studying in Valencia was there to the rescue and enable two old gals to find their way around the machines and onto the tram to the playa.(4 euros for two).
We took a taxi back for 7€. ; )
One afternoon we walked back from the City of Arts and Sciences along the Turia Gardens, for about an hour, until we saw the Torres that signalled we’d made it to the top of our street and almost home to that very special apartment.
Yes, it was all good. Highly recommend. Many thanks Juan.
This apartment is old and full of character. It does have parking but don't trust your sat nav to get you there. We would recommend you arrange to meet the owner elsewhere and be guided in. Juan is extremely helpful and pleasant. Once installed the location is great as it is easy to walk to everything. A small supermarket is very close. The apartment is very comfortable, has a lot of charm and everything you need. We were travelling with our 15 year old daughter and this apartment worked well for us. It is noisy at night because of the location with lots of people passing by in the street below but we found that to be part of the atmosphere.
great joint. spanking location.local amenities on the doorstep. couldnt rank high enough, great holiday flat.
We loved the apartment. Stayed there for 4 nights. Only two of us but we enjoyed all that lovely space .It is so well situated , everywhere accessible from there . Some noise from street but it's to be expected. Juan is such a charming man and helped by recommendations for restaurants. We could not ask for more.
The apartment is a charming 2 bedroom walk up that is well maintained. We arrived in Valencia earlier than our designated time. We called Juan, who met us at the apartment. He helped us with parking our car and giving us a quick tour of the area. The apartment has old world charm with modern amenities. A bowl of oranges was waiting for us. The apartment was clean and well stocked if you wanted to cook. We enjoyed every moment of our stay in Valencia. Juan was so helpful!
The apartment is perfectly located in the old town of Valencia. The Central Market, Cathedral, La Lonja as well as many shops, bars and restaurants are just a short walk away. There are a couple of bicycle hire shops just across the street from the apartment, great for rides to the City of Arts & Sciences or the seaside.
The apartment is comfortable, spacious, well equipped and very clean. The original features, high ceilings ,tiles and wooden shutters are very attractive.
The owners were friendly and helpful. They provided maps and guide books as well as coffee, tea, etc.
A lovely apartment in a beautiful city - we hope to return soon!
