We popped in this fantastic locals ( and tourists ) favourite tapas bar for quick snack on Saturday. What a wonderful place to be on lazy Saterday afternoon.
The place has 2 section, tapas bar in front, the restaurant in the back. We stayed tapas bar area. Only few tables and chairs, but didn't feel crumpt. Prenty of traditional feel was there.
We were not over hungry, but everything we ate were really, really great ! Everything was so fresh, perfectly cooked. Amazing !
Grilled sardines, cod corroquetas, grilled green pepers, they were all so delicious. And their speciality, anchovies were probably one of the best anchovies I've had for long time.
While we were there, bunch of local old gentlemen came in. People working there knew all of them. They greeted very cheerfully. They all had a grass of wine, cana, and having good time together. It's great to watch, brought smile on our faces.
One of the gentleman stopped in front of us when he left, and said " Enjoy your food and drink ! ". What a nice surprise :-)
Food, drink, atomospher, people , all fantastic. We'll definitely go back to Casa Montana next time we visit Valencia. I have to make sure that we'll be hungry for taste lots more next time.
P.S. A part of area between the beach and Casa Montana could be little rough. ( up to c/ Reina ) if you go there in the night, you need to plan how to get there and how to get back to your hotel.

I confess to being a really big fan of this place having been several times. Whether I drag other people there for the wine or for the tapas I don't know or care- because everyone says that they really enjoy it- my friends being honest people if they didn't enjoy they would blooming well tell me quickly enough. Ok it is a bit touristy sometimes but the wooden front room with the barrels is just fantastic-just what Valencia is all about- tasty, fresh tapas, friendly local service and lovely wines by the bottle or the glass. If you display any interest in your wine choice you get 200% return from the staff and I am by no means an expert. The middle room and the more modern back area are equally friendly, but less characterful. If you are a visitor to Valencia, I highly recommend leaving the beaten track of the centre or the beach to walk around this colourful neighbourhood and to try out this restaurant in particular. Saludos

Opens at 8pmfor evening and if you haven't booked you won't get a table in small restaurant.Get there early or wait outside for leavers for seat in bar area.In residential area rather than restaurant district but a classic tapas bar-full of charm and excellent traditional tapas.Service is efficient and friendly-cost adds up (as in most tapas bars) but is well worth it.Fried anchovies (like large whitebait) were wonderful, excellent patatas bravas, seafood and several types of sausage all worth trying. Wine from barrel or bottle (look at blackboard for choice)is great value although very long formal wine list rivals many an upmarket restaurant.
Highly enjoyable, if crowded, night out is guaranteed.

We arrived before opening so had a drink at a local bar when we came back it was full but although we hadn't booked they squeezed us in and took our order, due to me having long legs they moved us and what an amazing night, great food and wine, everybody was busy but still looked after you and the atmosphere and other diners made it a night to remember.
