We came to see the many migrating and local birds, as was described in the book. Instead we saw one Cormoran!
It started drizzling but we enjoyed the silvery gray water and the bride and groom who inspite of it remained on the pier to take a series of photos.

We took the tourist bus and had a boat trip on the lake in lovely warm weather. This was one of the best parts of our holiday.

Almost don't want to recommend this place, if too many people find it it will spoil its fabulous tranquility. A boat trip on the lake is magical, many different birds to see and the fish jumping out of the water! Could have stayed here for hours.

This is one of my favorite places in Spain. It's so peaceful and tranquil yet so breathtaking at sunset.

At the least, do this at the Albufera! The Mirador de Pujol is the nearest accessible point from El Saler... not really walking distance but easy on the yellow bus to Perello. It's the first bus stop by the lake. We recommend taking a boat trip across the lake. Our boatman came over as a genuine enthusiast for the ornithology of the lake and the migration patterns of the wide range of birds we saw... with enthusiastic explanations albeit all in Spanish but he gave us a couple of books in English about the nature reserve. This was a good, informative and relaxing afternoon experience that you shouldn't miss and is an easy bus trip directly out of Valencia on the yellow bus from the Gran Via Germanias by the North Station (the bus stop is hard to see, outside Alain estate agency office.
