I took the open top bus from the City of Arts - the ticket is only valid for this bus route and only picks up at some of the stops so check the leaflet. The trip lasts about 2 hours. First of all you pass the rice fields which are full of egrets, herons and other birds and then you stop in El Palmar village where you go on an included boat trip round the lake. Again there were loads of herons. It was very peaceful, the lake smooth with views of mountains behind the reeds. Quite a change from the bustle of Valencia. The bus of course takes you back to Valencia. If you are interested in rice growing go to the Museo del Arroz as well. Excellent value.

Recently came beck from a great holiday in Valencia. Hired a couple of bikes with the idea of cycling to the lagoon for the evening and to watch the sunset. Was a very hot day and we found the maps and directions could have been slightly better! We never actually got to there as we didn't want to get lost, although I'm sure we were pretty close to it. Instead we strolled along the beach in the evening sun before cycling back. Cycle paths we great but you need to know where you're heading to before you set off!

If you're looking for some peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings, this is a great place to spend a few hours. You can have a delcious paella at one of the many restaurants dotted around the lagoon and take a guided boat trip for no more than €5 per person. You won't find a more relaxing afternoon in Valencia.
