“Don't waste your money”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2012 via mobile

We decided on La Lola based on the Wallpaper guide and a recommendation from our hotel. We were very disappointed.
Service is slow. Took a good 15-20 mins to wait for our drinks and then a while longer for the order to be taken. There was a choice of a set menu or a la carte. Many people in the restaurant had opted for the set menu, however we decided to go a la carte. The starters were ok. Nothing too special. The mains were a different story. I opted for cod and my husband a medium entrecôte. Both were stone cold when they came out. The fish was taken back and microwaved and reproduced at speed. The reason I could tell the dish was hot, but still the fish
wasn't cooked.
They offered to recook both meals but to be honest we were a bit over the place and wanted to leave. We asked for the bill. I was really not expecting to be landed with 90 euros to pay when the main courses were so poor. We then ended up in a heated debate where for 10 mins they refused to take the money off the bill. They said they had offered to recook it. In the end (after lots of muttering) they relented but not without a fight. What happened to the customer is always right? What poor service, food and experience.

“Can't understand why this is so far down the rankings”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2012

Went to this restaurant based on a recommendation in an old copy of the Irish Times from 2009. The restaurant had so few reviews and was so far down the Tripadvisor list I wonder am I reviewing the correct restaurant. Our first impression was poor as we were directed to the side of the restaurant were no-one else was sitting as we had no reservation and were informed by a staff meber they were in all the guide books and very popular. Sounded ominous but thereafter everything was on the up and up. My oldest child had an excellent starter of prawns, a very tasty sirloin steak and a super chocolate dessert.

My wife and I had the tasting menu. The avocado salad was very good but the second course of curls of pate de foie gras served with dessert wine was exquisite. Also absolutely delicious was a lightly cooked scallop covered with a rasher of veal. The red tuna was a little disappointing but the desserts of textures of chocolate was fabulous. Bread, olives, flat breads and a hummous dip were all served complimentary before we were served our first course. I can sympathise with those who thought the service was a little slow. We found it quite normal until we reached the last two courses of our tasting menu by which time the restaurant had filled up a lot and service slowed down just a little. The price for four was about €140 including beer and wine which was very reasonable for the quality of food served. I would defintely recommend it and we will probably go back next week.

“Nice Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2012

We booked for 8.30pm and arrived about 8.25, we were told we had to wait outside as it didn't open until 8.30. Food was nice although the vegetarian option lacked a bit of taste. Entertainment was fantastic, they had 3 singers and a lad flamenco dancing, who was brilliant. Unfortunately as there were 30 of us we were split up into 4 tables, shame but a good night.

We had the degustation menu, the gaspacho with the lemon gelato was amazing !
The rest of the food was pretty good, it was bit pricy but the culinary experience was totally worth it !
