“Gourmet tapas at unbelievable value.”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

Smart, stylish decor and full of well heeled locals when we visited. Small, therefore cosy atmosphere. All the usual tapas dishes are cooked imaginitvely and there are lots of unusual dishes - a dish of snails and black pudding in a local sauce, for example, was sensational. They charge no more than any other restauarants for tapas (EUR3-6), the portions are a similar size, the basic dishes are cooked that much better and the fusion of tastes in the specialist dishes is spectacular. The chef must be very talented. Coupled to an inexpensive wine list, this place is outstanding value for money. My only criticism was the waitresses who have perfected the art of being unattentive in such a small restaurant.

“Tapas, Jim, but not as we know them.”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

We'd been told about this restaurant on Calle Burriana which has revolutionised our way of looking at tapas. Yes, of course there's still plenty of room for more traditional tapas places, and Valencia isn't short of them, but the Picoteo DEVICIO is really something special.

The menu is divided into categories by ingredient, style or method of eating. So, from the De Carne (meat) section we went for 'rabo de toro deshuesado' (boned bull's tail) and the 'cochinilllo crujiente' (crackling suckling pig); from Delicias a 'bunuelo de bacalao negro y ali oli verde' (a black cod doughnut with green garlic & oil); from the Greens section a vegetable tempura as good as any I've had in a Japanese restaurant, to be dipped into Romesco, the classic sauce from Tarragona made with roasted red peppers, almonds, garlic and tomatoes. And on and on, ending with three desserts: 'bunuelos de chocolate con helado de frambuesa' (chocolate fritter with strawberry ice cream); 'torrijas de brioche caramelizadas con helado vainilla' (a caramelised french toast brioche with vanilla ice cream); 'tarta de manzana caliente con helado de galletas' (warm apple tarte with galette ice cream).

It came to 35 euros a head, including two glasses of fine cava, an excellent bottle of red wine and a couple of liqueurs. Not what I'd pay every day, but excellent value for a quite fantastic dining experience.

“Our best tapas in Spain”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

Upon entering we had a small amount of confusion with the owner (as a word of warning: the staff barely speak any English and there are no English menus, but worry not as they are EXTREMELY friendly and accommodating). Also, you don't really need to worry about understanding the menu because you could just randomly select an assortment of dishes and everything would be superb. Every dish we had was absolutely incredible, all the way through the desert tapas. And then, to make matters even better, basically every dish here costs 2-3 euros, with only a few of the larger or more exquisite ones in the 5-7 range. Glasses of wine are 2 euros on average. The two of us ate a full meal here, with 3 glasses of wine between the two of us, and desert, for just 40 euros. Honestly an incredible deal. If you're in Valencia and anywhere close to this restaurant it would really be a crime not to try it out.
