“Excellent Value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2013

We took advantage of a double Groupon deal and bolted a 2-day stay to a 3-day stay. At the start of each period we were presented with a bottle of bubbly. This was our first visit to Valencia and we found it a beautiful city.
The visit presented us with several challenges to keep us on our toes. Even before we left home we couldn't find the hotel on Google maps, and we now know that it is located at the north end of Vincente Beltran Grimal - not 1/2 mile away at the south end where google locates the hotel street address.
We had been advised, correctly as it turned out, that a car would not be necessary in Valencia - parking is difficult, most streets are one-way, and the long wait at traffic lights at most junctions would test anyone's patience (Valencians appear to be extremely tolerant drivers). The hotel has a bus stop across the road which is served by 6 bus routes, so you can go around the city or to the beach with ease - at €1.50 a trip on the bus or better to buy a "T" card which allows unlimited bus travel around the city. These passes come as 1 day, 2 day or 3 day versions, but don't go as far as the airport, for which you will need a metro ticket (taxis are exhorbitant). We started with a single metro ticket from the Airport to Ayora station on metro line 5 (€4.90 from the ticket machine at the airport metro station) and walked 1/2 mile to the hotel.
Understanding the ticketing system is quite a challenge as there are so many variants. On our first day we walked to the Tourist Information office, tucked away on the east side of Plaza Reina, and marked with a very small sign over the door (nearby you will also find the best Pinchos style tapas). There we were given a city map and pointed at a tobac where we could buy a "T2" (tay dos) 2 day bus pass. We also bought a 72hr Tourist Pass which allows bus and metro travel (including to the Airport) and gets discounts into various attractions. In retrospect, we would have done better to refresh the "T2" because we only needed the metro to return to the airport (we could have bought another single ticket), and we never needed to use the metro because the stations were not in convenient locations in the city.
As you might expect, the Tourist style map of Valencia we were given was in Spanish - unfortunately, all the street names are in Catalan (or Valencian ?) so getting around is another challenge (I later asked another tourist office for a Catalan version, but was told that there isn't one!). Another time I would try Stanfords in London before setting off. From the Tourist Office we also bought a book of walking routes around the city, which proved another interesting challenge in trying to decipher the curious style of the translator, and the total lack of any concept of scale (distance or time) to the routes, but we persevered with it and criss-crossed the city many times finding lots of interesting places.

Now armed with dubious maps and a nearby No2 bus stop at the hotel and our T2 bus pass, we were able to traverse the city or get to the beach (frequent buses each a 20 min ride) and begin to enjoy our stay. Our hotel room was on the 4th floor (all non-smoking Executive rooms, which was a surprise as we expected a standard room). The room was huge with a firm bed as long as it was wide, a small fridge loaded with soft drinks (€1.50 each if you used them), and a safe (at no charge!). The bathroom was excellent - spacious, clean and a powerful shower. The air conditioning purred gently and unobtrusively. The flat screen TV included the BBC World News channel. The WiFi required a 24hr access pass (available free from reception), and my phone app said it was 11Mb/sec - you can pay for a faster channel if needed, but we had no problems on phones or ipad (you need a separate pass for each equipment using the WiFi). The only downside was that every time the phone went out of range such that the WiFi link dropped out, you have to re-enter the user name and the password. Very tedious, but I was assured by the management that they are aware of this and are looking to make the initial access available for the complete period of client's stay without needing to reboot.

Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast is buffet style unlimited and covers almost everything from healthy cerials, yoghurt, fruit to eggs (three ways), sausages and bacon via cheese, croissants, cakes and sweets

One last comment on Valencia - the Oceanografico part of the City of Arts and Sciences really is worth a visit even at €27 each, if you have never seen trained dolphins. The routines of 8 dolphins performing individual and synchronised displays is quite extraordinary, and just when you think it's all over - it isn't!

A great Hotel and a great trip.
Four stars for now, once the WiFi is sorted I would give it 5 stars.

Room Tip: Fourth floor for non-smoking executive rooms

Pro: Spacious rooms. Excellent breakfast until 10.30 am. Checkout at noon. Hotel restaurant is fine. Small parc close to hotel
Con: No restaurants in neighbourhood. No information at reception.
Tips:
Local bus ticket: Best to be bought in Tobacco, go around the petrol station, cross the street and walk to the right for 3 minutes.
Bikes for hire: Keep walking on same street.
Supermarket in 3 minutes walk. Around the block in front of hotel
For the bus to the beach: Go around the petrol station and step on line 2.
Bus to the city center: Use line 4 across the street at the hotel. 15 minutes to Cathedral
Bus to the Centre of Sciences and Soler shopping center (Carrefour): Use line 35 across the street at the hotel. About 10 minutes. Walking in 15minutes.
Metro from airport: Buy ticket at entrance (manned office, speaks English), ask for ticket to Ayora and look for line 5. Leave at Ayora (30 minutes), leave station at Jerome street and keep walking for 10 minutes to main street. Go right. Look for petrol station Repsol. Behind station go to the left for entrance of hotel. No taxi stand at Ayora.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less street noise.

We stayed in this hotel in the beginning of May. You can reach this hotel from airport by tube, Ayora station is just 7 min walking from the hotel (tube ticket cost 4,90 Euro). To see all attractions, we used Touristic bus, the bus stop just 7-10 min walking (one day ticket cost 17 Euro). There are 2 lines and you can use one ticket to see both of them. This hotel is near Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias, it's very interesting place for walking and for visiting. Beach is located around 30 min walking. In hotel we had only breakfast, which was incredibly tasty and fresh. We had lunch in the city center or bought food in supermarket Mercadona which is near hotel. The room was big enough and clean. We can't complain. We had Spanish and English TV channels. Staff on reception speak English, very friendly and helpful. It's very easy to reach airport, city center and beach, I definitely can recommend this hotel.

In today's business travel it is no longer a luxury to expect free quality internet connection. At this hotel you have very poor bandwith unless you pay their internet supplier an extra daily charge. Also the long complicated codes change daily and for each device and you must re enter these codes each time you turn on each device. This is less than third world service.
The rooms are large, great bathrooms, free fresh orange juice in the lobby and good value if you did not need first class internet service.

Trusted other TripAdvisor opinions and we were not disappointed. We stayed 3 nights and have no complaints. We were given a room on the 4th floor facing on to a side street. Room was sizeable and clean. Breakfast was plentiful and Spanish newspapers available. We even got an invitation to a party to (re)launch bar on ground floor!! We walked into the city centre and back the first day but it's a long way. Best option is to get the metro at the Ayora Sq. station, from where you can also reach the Arenas and Malvarrosa beaches. As others mention, the hotel is close to the Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias. The parks/gardens on the old Turia riverbed are impressive. Cycling is very popular in the city. Would recommend.

Nice hotel, great breakfast offering a nice variety of hot and cold food. We walked to the old town during the day, but it would be a hike if you wanted to partake of night life in that area unless you cab it. Easy walk to the beach, F1 track, and the Oceanografic. It has parking available for 14 Euro's a day, but after the first day we found street parking. We arrived quite late the first night as our Michelin map directions led us astray concerning the location of the hotel. Once we found it it was no problem, but it was too late to mess with street parking. It is not plentiful, but not hard to find unless late at night.

Room Tip: We did not partake of the spa. Our room on the 4th floor was nice and quit.

I stayed at Abba Acteon Hotel in the October 2012, while visiting Valencia. It is always a bit of a hassle to figure out how to get to your hotel (and what you can find nearby), so I will give a quick summary:

At the airport, walk downstairs to the Metro, and buy the ticket for zone AB (EUR 3,10). Take Line 5 in direction Maritime S., and get out at Ayora. Exit at Jerome de Mousouri, cross the street and walk until you reach the main road. Turn right and continue until you see a gas station on your left. The hotel is located right behind the gas station.

If you want to go to the city centre, it is possible to walk (very easy to find on the map) and it will take you around 20 – 30 minutes (depending on your route and where you want to end up). You can also take bus 4 (EUR 1,5), which stops right outside the hotel. Exit at Reina (where you will find the cathedral) or at Ayuntamiento (the city hall). Ask the driver and he/she will probably be more than happy to let you know (but ask in Spanish...).

If the weather permits it, a trip to the beach is a great way to spend an afternoon. Take bus 2, or walk to the Ayora Metro station and exit at the last stop of line 5 (Neptun).

From the hotel it is a short (10 minutes) walk to the City of Arts and Science. There are also to shopping malls nearby, Aqua is located right next to El Corte Inglés and El Saler (favourite choice of the locals) is located at the other side of Puente del Grao.

Abba Hotel is a great choice if you are not looking for anything special, luxurious or with “Spanish charm”. It is a typical city hotel, which works perfectly for its purpose. The room was spacious, clean, nicely decorated, and had a flat screen TV, mini bar and work desk. The air condition worked perfectly and the bathroom was spacious and clean as well (with bath tub). The madras was a bit too soft for my taste, but the pillows were big and great. The hotel is also located in a quiet street, so I slept very well.

The receptionists were all very friendly, and spoke well English. On the downside they did not seem to appreciate my attempt to speak Spanish (probably because of the Salamanca accent) =)

The breakfast is (like the hotel) nothing special, and costs EUR 10. It has the usual things like pastries, yoghurt, fruit, coffee, juice, ham, cheese, Spanish sausages, egg&bacon and so on. But their “La tortillas de patatas” (a Spanish dish, almost like a potato omelette) was very good and so was the Churros. Unfortunately they were slow at refilling everything, and I saw guest wait for both juice and food at several occasions (as did I). And the coffee machine was “always” out of either beans or water. Impossible to get a cup...

The hotel is ideal if you want to visit The City of Arts and Science, and do not need to be close to the night life and so on.
