Honestly didn't know what to expect after reading conflicting reviews from multiple sources, but decided that the low cost and the outdoor pool was worth the risk. Glad to say that I was pleasantly surprised:-

The Good:
We were allocated a double room with a very large comfortable bed. It was spacious and had plenty of wardrobe space. The room had decent air-con and was cleaned every day by a very non-intrusive cleaning service. The pool area was very nice and clean, but it can get quite busy. The location is great, right along the Turia garden (the park that runs down the centre of the city), it is in very close proximity to the old city centre, a 2km walk to the Bioparc, and buses and metro are right outside the door. The shopping centre below the hotel was nice too, with a variety of shops including 2 supermarkets and a number of cafes.

The bad:
Not much really! I can't comment on the restaurant because we didn't eat there once, but it seemed pricey enough. There are no tea/coffee facilities in the room which I normally like to have. I would also agree with other reviews about the thin walls. We had noisy neighbours for 2 out of our 7 nights, and we could hear them talking and knocking on doors etc., but it wasn't a major inconvenience.

Overall, if you are not looking for luxury, this is an ideal hotel. Most of the bad reviews here are unwarranted in my opinion. You can't expect high level accommodation for the prices that this hotel offers. If you want luxury, pay for luxury. If you want a clean, budget hotel in a great location, choose hotel Expo.

Room Tip: Rooms along the road can be quite noisy, but only if you open the window. We just left the aircon on...

Reading some of the reviews below, I guess not everyone would agree, but here was our experience.

We were in Valencia with some friends for the nightlife, and managed to book the hotel at ridiculously cheap rates for 3 nights. We didn't expect much, but to be fair, our expectations were way exceeded. The rooms were just fine, even though the beds were a little hard, it didn't trouble us. The bathroom was fine as well.

What you need to know and accept beforehand is that this is a large hotel and that it is indeed a bit dated. The AC could be better, but it's not crippling (and I'm sensitive to heat when sleeping). The rooftop pool was just awesome (even though a little windy). It's clean and has a nice bar close by.

We'd definitely go here again should the opportunity arise!

We have just returned from our first visit to the beautiful city of Valencia, we stayed at the Expo Hotel which is within walking distance to the Main part of Valencia passing many back street restaurants on the way. The hotel is more than adequate for most peoples needs and open top tour buses stop right out side which makes for a nice insight to the city. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast is as you would expect to find, we chose to eat out at night to cram more into our visit. I believe the hotel is due for a revamp soon which will probably be due by the end of this season otherwise it is a good spot to stay. And the swimming pool on the roof gives you a panoramic view across the city. We will go back for sure.

pros:
- location (15 minutes walk to the old city)

cons:
- bad room odor (I checked at least in 2 rooms)
- uncomfortable bed
- weak air condition (I checked at least in 2 rooms). I called a technician who improved it somewhat.
- slow internet connection with medium to low WiFi signal
- staff members speak limited English

Overall, for the same price range I recommend that you find a better hotel, even at the expense of proximity to the old center.
I found an alternative hotel at the same price, which offers higher standard (4 stars) at the expense of less optimal location (2 km further away from the old city; near the conference center).

Room Tip: test the WiFi signal before choosing the room

Location - is great. You can get the metro from the airport like we did with ease. The Turia stop is right outside the hotel. There is also a El Corte Ingles shopping centre right next door which makes it easy if you need to buy anything. There is also a supermarket on the bottom level where you can buy snacks, drinks etc. There are also cafes and restaurants in the shopping centre, we found them to be good for breakfast but tried not to eat there otherwise unless we were being lazy.
I also read a lot of reviews suggesting you buy a tourist metro card - don't do this unless you're planning on taking the metro a lot! We wasted quite a bit of money on it when we easily could have just paid for our trips.
It's also a pretty quick walk to El Carme/El Carmen - if you do this I recommend you go to Canela for some paella also.
Rooms - pretty basic. My main complaint would have been lack of fridge as I prefer my water cold and on the last night I discovered what I thought was the safe was actually a fridge so that is my fault!
Hotel itself - didn't eat here as it looked pretty overpriced. Went up to the terrace briefly - you can't eat your own food there despite what the reception staff may tell you, but its nice to sit there anyway. Pool looked to be pretty busy a lot of the time but we went to the beach instead.
Staff - desk staff were friendly and a couple of them spoke English which was handy for us.

All in all, for the price, you can't really complain about this place!

To start with this Hotel is situated in a very strategic place. It's close to Turia metro station, close to a large market, to the city centre, to Jardin Turia, to the Bioparc. The Hotel is clean spotless and the staff is very friendly and polite. Also its not expensive at all for this level of accommodation this hotel has to offer. Highly recommend it!
