We took the hop on hop off starting at 10am. We started on the red line which gave a good overview of the central and old city. It took about an hour and a half. We return to the central square and the took the blue line. It was a bit chilly in march but when the sun shines it is very nice.

Not the best bus trip but it does give you an insight into the city. I found the Barcelona tour a lot better but it was pretty costly. This tour was half the price.

We paid about €38 for a 48 hour ticket for the two of us. We have used these tours in the past to get a feel for the layout of a City that we have not visited before and with the possibility of doing both the historic route and the one going around the port, we covered the areas that we were likely to visit. They are also useful to get to places we wanted to visit to save walking or paying for taxis, although when we did use the local taxis they were very reasonably priced.

(In this regard the taxi from the airport was only €20 and slightly less when we returned which is a bargain compared to some taxi rides in other cities).

The audio guide was interesting, although sometimes we were not quite in step with the guide and missed exactly what was being described on a couple of occasions.

We decided to do the bus tour and we caught it in the center of town. Always worth it to get a good view of the city sights. Restaurants, shops and the cathedral right there also

We went at the beginning of March (la Fallas) and paid for 48hr ticket. Which was useful as it enabled us to hop off the route when we pleased and have a good mooch.

The first bus we got did the inner city route and I'd have to say it didn't really show much other than suburban areas for the vast majority of it. Maybe it was the grey weather that gave us the disappointed first glimpse of the city or it could have been the rickety old bus with poor quality, badly timed audio input (kept cutting in and out). I'd say you get a better view of the centre by foot. That said whilst on the bus we had a fantastic view of near by fireworks, which made up for the former.

The second day we took the route to the beach from our hotel. Spent time down there before heading back for the remaining route, which was cut short when we got to the town centre due to a parade. However the driver informed the bus in Spanish leaving the passengers that could understand him explaining to those who didn't have much Spanish. The problem was he didn't say why, so I guess on that bus there were a few disappointed customers who had paid for the whole day only to be told at 4pm the buses were finishing. This certainly wasn't conveyed when buying tickets. The buses we got on our second day were more modern with better sound quality.

The bus gives you a good overall view of the city and enabled us to get our bearings easily. Fro. This we choice were to spend more time.
