Visited the natural pool and it was lovely. Hard to find as not sign posted well from Oliva. Swam with large fish. Water clear and refreshing. Resturant not so friendly. Sat down with family to order coffee and snacks and got moved on. Ended up sitting on a wall. Other Spanish families appeared to be swimming then casually going back to tables at their leisure. Would probably come back with a picnic. Main inside restaurant looked nice but probably wouldn’t make effort in case same service.
I wanted to do a review as most of the ones I read were just about eating there or didn't have much info.
What is it? A natural spring that you can swim in. The area surrounding the spring has had steps built in natural stone to make access to and from the water easier. The steps make it easy for you to sit with your feet in water if you prefer.
Before you go. Pack snorkels, masks, goggles and crocs. There are fish, not very many, but you can see them easier from the side before you get in. The biggest one I saw was about 40cm long. Definitely not in the slightest bit interested in humans. But do pack crocs or those waterproof slip on shoes for kids. Rocks were not sharp but there were stones on the bottom.
Where is it? About a mile off of the N332 just outside Oliva and sign posted. As you pull off of the main road (N332) you go just a few hundred metres down the road and under a bridge/small flyover/ main road above. Set sat nav for "xiringuito font salada" "restaurante font salada" or "font salada". There are a few very steep side roads which you might see on the way, don't go up them, stay on the road on the same level, get a passenger to look for the signs while you keep the car away from the kerb. It's not difficult to find.
Is it free? Yes. Parking free, entry free. Sunshine also free. We only paid for coffee and ice cream.
Where do I park? Parking is either right next to the font salada or just up the road. If you're having a cheap day like us, maybe go after lunch, have coffee and ice creams after a swim. If I went again I would park on the road before getting there as it was getting busy again when we left.
What did the drinks and ice cream cost?
2 Americanos with milk (Americano con leche) and 2 ice creams about 8 Euros, then you can sit at chilinguito and dry out. Order ice creams at the bar, lots of table service available. Or just take drinks and snacks with you and sit around the outside on the wall or steps. Plenty of people doing that.
Are there toilets? Yes. Although they are probably just for customers, you don't need to go through the restaurant to use them. But buy a few drinks and relax in the shade for half an hour. Everybody wins.
At the rear of the restaurant there is a games room and the 2 toilets are located just through there.
Any really useful advice? Yes. Learn this phrase - "xiringuito" pronounced "chiringuito" (an open air beach bar style restaurant or bar) you might need it.
When did I go. 13th July 2018. Got there at 5 & left about half 8. People were still arriving. We lost the direct sunlight at about 8pm, but still light enough for a long time after that.
Worth a visit? Yes. Very nice little spot and a great choice if you need a change from the beach or pool in the late afternoon.
Do I need to know any Spanish? Probably not, but, this is Spain, what better time to try. I found the bar staff very friendly at the chiringuito, and if the kids can ask for a Fanta limon and say gracias, your always off to a good start.
Any bad points? No. But the water was not warm. It's not arctic, but don't expect thermal springs. Apparently it stays the same temperature all year round.
There is a small road between the chiringuito and the restaurant. It is used as there is a small car park at rear of restaurant. Only saw a few cars using the road. Don't be put off. It's not a motorway.
Anything else there? There's the chiringuito, a restaurant, a nice bit of water to swim in. Games room at rear of restaurant has pool table, pinball, air hockey, table football a few other games. Easily killed 3 hours with a swim, ice cream and drink, another swim, pinball.
Is it a secret? Sort of.
Why is this review sooo long? Good question. Like i said, i had a coffee. Also, I'm a dad with 2 boys who likes to know loads about where I'm going, what's there, how long the journey is etc and assume there's a few others the same.
