Found this restaurant while looking for a good tapas bar, first time we'd been there even though we've been to the town many, many times. We arrived about 1:30, which turned out to be perfect timing as by the time we got settled into our seats and ordered the place was near full. Passed a fresh fish counter on the way in, packed with wonderful offerings: huge crabs, small crabs, prawns, lobsters, snapper, grouper, sea bass, hake, monk fish, clams, mussels...too many to name them all, and all very fresh.

We had fried boquerones (like whitebait but bigger), chipitos (tiny fried squid), and mushrooms alijo (with garlic) for starters. All were very fresh and tasty, but I found the mushroom had too much lemon juice for my taste. For mains, we ordered two sea bass baked in salt and two dressed crabs, but the waitress suggested that perhaps that was too much and we might share one each and order more if we were still hungry. That turned out to a great suggestion as both were very big when they arrived. The dressed crab was very fresh, but we were expecting cold, cooked crab more like you'd get at a sea-side pub, and these were filled with mixed white and dark crabmeat, mayo, eggs and seasonings, so we were a bit disappointed. Not to say that they weren't very good and well prepared, just not what we expected. If you wanted crabs with very little work, these were perfect. The salt baked sea bass, on the other hand, was fabulous: moist, super fresh, tender and very, very tasty, and more than enough for two persons. All was accompanied by a couple of bottles of white Rioja that went down well.

Yes, there were times when we wished for a bit more attention from our waiters, but the place was packed, and when we did have their attention, they were very helpful and efficient.

The final bill for four people including starters, mains, desserts and wine was €135; a bit pricy but I thought fair considering the location, amount, and quality of the food and drink.

All and all, I would be very happy to return on a regular basis!

Food is excellent, staff very friendly and extensive tapas and main course menus.....great value for the money but is therefore very popular and can be busy at the weekends

When we arrived the restaurant was full to bursting with locals. We had to wait for 5 minutes before a table came free. We chose the "menu del dia" with 2 courses. The choice for each course ran to 8 different dishes. We chose our dishes which arrived quite quickly along with a large bowl of salad placed in the middle of the table. We were then asked for our main course so that this could be prepared. As the lunchtime progresses certain dishes are struck off, our first choice was "off" so we revisited the menu and were given helpful advice from the waiter which turned out to be unknown, but extremely good. The size of the portions are large and it takes a brave soul to eat the two courses. After this we had a coffee. Throughout the service was excellent, apart from a couple of small details (compensated by a bowl of tuna salad in addition to the normal salad.) Overall, an excellent Spanish restaurant which combines Tapas Bar, Take away and full restaurant at the rear. We will certainly be revisiting to try the a-la-carte. The waiter confessed to only speaking little English, so one must try to compensate for this.

The food was very good but unfortunately the staff was arrogant and passive. The waiter's attitude sucked. He hardly answered our questions and made us feel like idiots. We were completely neglected after the food was served, had to go and ask for more water, bread etc. several times. Great food is definitely not enough, this staff spoilt our night out. Never again!

There were a number of things that this restaurant should do to improve its service. Our comments are given constructively. We arrived and waited to be seated. After 5 minutes we wondered if we should go directly to a spare table. A waiter then appeared and pointed to a table. We certainly didn't feel very welcome. I ordered the mussels starter and my wife the meatball soup. The mussels arrived and after a few minutes my wife suggested I start to avoid them getting cold. I finished the mussels and still no sign of the soup. We guessed it had been forgotten. Then the soup arrived. Most restaurants these days are able to serve two meals at the same time. Normal practice. Incidentally, fyi, the soup was very salty. This may well be how it should be (never had it before), but beware of the high salt level. I ordered entrecote steak with roquefort sauce. They didn't ask how it should be cooked. The steak then arrived without the roquefort sauce. I assumed it had been forgotten but 5 minutes later it turned up. Surely it can't be that hard to deliver the sauce with the meal itself? On the plus side, there was was an extensive wine list and they had Azpilicueta, which is my favourite rioja crianza, and at a reasonable price of €16.
