Just spent three happy days in Calpe. This was my first vist to Calpe, although I've stayed many times in Spain. Calpe is a very nice town, with the old town at the top of the hill and the new town at the bottom. It was a bit tricky to find the Terra de Mar, but as I was on foot and not in a rush even with a map I did ask three different people in my poor Spanish. I found the small hotel in a small street and was warmly greeted. I had room 11 on 2nd floor. It was a reasonable size room with a view of the street and two small balconies. There was a double bed and a good sized wardrobe/drawers, which was more than adequate. A big bonus was free wifi and free safety deposit box which was big enough to take a computer. There was also a kettle, which is unusual for Spain and a bonus. The bathroom was a bit challenging. I may suggest that if you are a large size person this bathroom would not be suitable, however ok for me. The towels were changed each day and the room made up.there was also a mini fridge and some toiletries . It was lucky that I can speak pigeon Spanish as the two ladies on duty don't speak English although there is the possibility to speak to an English speaking person on the phone. Another plus was good heating as it was chilly at night. Breakfast was a reasonable selection of one cheese, two types of salami, yogurts, fruits, cereal, pastries, fruit juices and tea and hot toasted baguette. Definitely plenty enough to eat. Marina, the housekeeper was very polite and helpful, only limited by my Spanish!! Near the Terra Mar are many places to eat. As the hotel was at the top of the hill I walked down the hill (quite a long pleasant stroll) to the beach at the bottom. It's a gorgeous long beach with a fantastic promenade where you can walk right along to the port, which is a very nice small area. Getting back to the hotel unless you are super fit get the bus, only €1.20 as you may need oxygen if you are walking uphill. I did find the Terra de Mar to be good value for what it was. Would I stay there again? I think I will stay at the bottom of the hill next time, but I will definitely go back to Calpe.
