“Disappointing.”
Reviewed November 27, 2013

Have stayed at this hotel 3 times before and it was exceptional in every aspect. This time I was very disappointed, particulary with the golf. On arrival we had to wait 25 minutes while 0ne, very pleasant, receptionist dealt with a queue of clients as well as dealing with phone calls. One major problem if you have a car you must pay a minimum of 2.50€ every time you leave the hotel complex, bizarre!!!!!!! The golf course was very busy and the golf reception desk were taking,'walk ins' and telling them to join the queue at the 1st tee. This resulted in mayhem and 2hrs 55 mins for 9 holes. It is a pity, since Melia have taken over the running of this hotel, that they are now treating the paying public this way. It is typically Spanish, we are losing money so let's put the prices up and squeeze more people in, not the answer long term. I won't be back though I think the place is lovely.

Room Tip: Room overlooking 1st tee

Dear Neilgolf,
We would like to thank you first of all for choosing Melia Villaitana several times for your stays.
We are sorry to hear that last time you could find some inconvenience. We note that that the main reason was the waiting time in the Golf Course, and we apologize for that, although we should inform you those days a Golf Tournament was taking place, so that one could be the cause.
We will be delighted if you change your mind and reconsider to visit us once again. We are sure that, as usual, we will exceed your expectations.
Best regards,

I stayed here in September this year. The holiday was actually free for me as I won it on a work sales incentive (lucky me!). So I cannot rate it on value.

Everything was amazing. The staff were exceptional, the location was perfect and the rooms were to die for. I think we had the best rooms available on 'The Level' I think they called it. Very clean, very spacious and even the little extra's were cute... Free mini bar topped up daily, free shampoo's, conditioners & body butter. I think our part of the resort was a no children zone as well which was brilliant.

I would definitely go back - I couldn't of had a better time.
And so close to Benidorm night life as well but also far away enough if you don't want that.

We staid a couple of days in the Villaitana early November. The room we were offered was great, spacious, separate shower, tea and coffee facility, etc. The interior design could use an update to make it a bit more nowadays, but this is a matter of taste. The grounds of the hotel are very well maintained. Playing golf at the two courses of the hotel was a joy. It was noticeable however, that It was end of season: few staff. This was also the case for the rest of the hotel : there seemed to be very little staff.
One thing to avoid is half-board. Breakfast was fine. The quality of the meals served in the evening was too low. Too cold, too dry, too baked through, too .... : not made with love for the ingredients. The winelist is very average.

First of all we would like to thank you for spending a few minutes of your time, to write about your last stay in our hotel.
We deeply regret the inconvenience if the half board service did not reach your expectations. We will follow your constructive remarks in order to improve our services, but we would like to point out that our executive chef and his team work very hard every day, always trying to offer the best quality of food and a good variety as well in the buffet.
Thank you again for reporting your experience, and please do not hesitate to contact us directly for any kind of assistance in future.
We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you again to Melia Villaitana!

After having spent a week in Melia Villaitana golfing and spending time with a group of 50 other Finnish golfers, I can most certainly recommend both the hotel and the golf.
The room we booked was spacious, with a large balcony equipped with good furniture, overlooking the golf course. Extra advantage was the walk-in-closet, really large bathroom and very comfortable bed with a change of sheets twice during the week!
What I could have added was a pair of slippers and a bathrobe, the tiled floor was a bit cold.
The spa was really over-priced and the friendly personnel did not make up with the almost nothing. The jaguzzi was large and nice, but that was about all it offered. The changing room was all wet and cold and dirty from walking around with normal shoes and there was no hair-dryer available.
The breakfast, dinners and the few restaurants, which were open off-season were all very good.
The two courses are operated by a separate business, managed OK, but nothing special. The courses were extremely dry at this late time of the season, but because of their lenght, very rewarding for regular club-players. The bunkers, however, were hard as stone, nor at all well maintained.
Overall, a good experience and can be recommended! For those, who wish to visit Benidorm, I can recommend restaurant Alcazar for a more formal dinner and the splendid tapas house Cava Aragonesa in the old town, which was really something to experience!

Room Tip: Superior, 3rd floor

Stayed for business and a couple of rounds of golf over a four day period.

The rooms were modern, well furnished, and I had fantastic views across the championship golf course. The bathroom was large, and the separate walk in wardrobe was a bonus. Its worth noting that the television in the room only had two English channels.

Food and drinks were of a good standard throughout.

Parking was chargeable, over 10 Euros per day to park in the hotel, but only 2.50 Euros for parking in the grounds.

Grounds were exceptional, architecture fantastic, styles taken from buildings all across the region.

Many large pools around the complex.

I would probably return.

Room Tip: My deluxe room was well furnished with nice views.

We arrived for 2 nights, fantastic room on level 7. brilliant. Pools areas all spotless and the standard throughout did not disappoint. The lay out is very like Portmerrian a façade type village. Absolutely wonderful.

This is the usual high standard of Melia but with normally one part the ordinary of the Level - the posh bit! This was at the end of the season so everyone was together and the nite club was shut. Our room excellent and will post reviews on the several restaurants. 445 rooms over some 30 large interconnected buildings, all v Iberian you get used to finding routes around. 3 or 4 large pools but best is the Level heated one. Room staff very good but you do need to have a little Spanish. Needs - a shuttle bus system (like other Melias) AND a small shop as one gets fed up with water - ditch the pricey bottle shop surroundings great and well kept.
