“Sun, relaxation and overall a great time!”
Reviewed April 22, 2009

We booked this hotel as a late deal for a relaxing break over Easter. We were thinking about self catering, in particular the Terralta, but decided against it due to the Euro and the two bank holidays. We are very pleased we did! Although we might go to the Terralta one day, Benidorm is very expensive at the moment and many restaurants were empty. We have been to Benidorm before and on both our visits have stayed away from typically 'English' places - contary to popuar belief, although there are plenty of the 'Red Lion' type establishments, Benidorm is a very varied place with a lovely Old Town. We very much enjoyed Tapas Alley.

Back to the Hotel....We think that it deserves all of its good reveiws. We have never been before and so cannot comment on it going down hill but we think it deserves a 3 star + overall. As we booked late we did not have any expectations but it is our main holiday of the year and so we wanted it to be relaxing, enjoyable and value for money. It was certainly that. Check in was easy and after flying at 7am we were sat in the restaurant having lunch at 1pm with a nice glass of wine.

ROOM: I emailed the hotel before going and asked a a high room with a good view and we got it. The rooms are very big wiht a massive bathroom and wonderful sky television channels. My husbnad was in his element with Sky 1, 2, 3 and Setanta! Some areas need a lick of paint but nothing too serious.

POOL: lovely pool area although i wouldnt fancy it in summer - too many people, too few sun loungers. This is the first holiday i have ever resevred a sun bed ( i hate to do it) and didnt expect to as it was not full but other people did so we did! I am up early anyway so didnt make a difference. Pool too cold for Easter - could do with being heated as i would have loved a dip.

ENTERTAINMENT: this was excellent. never seen entertainment as good, they work really hard. Free bingo and quizes and plenty for children to take part in. an excellent selection of bars with a great variety of drink - again my husband enjoyed the strongbow on offer! You can have bottles of wine which was great and could take drinks to the room to enjoy the balcony. Can not fault any area of the entertainment or bars.

FOOD: The food was good and plenty to chose from, particualry enjoyed the roast pork and stilton after dinner! They definitely cater for the English but i would have liked to see more choice or loacl dishes. Food was always hot and replenished frequently. get a drink, put it on a table and then go and get food. Again, i wouldnt like to go in summer (busy) and no air con at Easter! This needs sorting as we were boiling.

OTHER FACILITIES: Indoor pool good as outdoor one too cold although the whirlpools were cold - i expected them to be hot!! nice to have dip though. We went up to the roof top tp see the view but werent impressed by the pool. We wouldnt pay the extra for this area. No atmoshere and up on the 25th floor! Felt abit isolated bu i suppose some might like this.

Overall - fantastic for an Easter break. We had lovely weather, enjoyed a walk down the beach and prom every night, walked to the Old Town, played bingo, won the quiz, enjoyed wine looking from our balcony and enjoyed the entertainment. We will definitely return!!

Just like to say that this was the best hotel i have ever stayed in. The food was great different choices every day. the weather wasn't up to much when we visited so we spent quite a lot of time in the hotel but they put plenty of entertainment on. everyone was friendly. 5 minutes walk to Munderma (a bit like a zoo - which is rather good) best of buying the tickets from the actual place rather than the reps. also water park is right next door to munderma - but it was closed when i went.
i am 100% sure you will have a fab time. i off to solou in 4 weeks can't wait would of gone back here but it was too expensive .

one bad thing about the hotel - don't order a packlunch you get all sorts of weird things in it, must be a spanish thing ! mine went in the bin lol :-)

This was our second trip to the Flamingo Oasis and hopefully we were expecting the same as on our previous trip in May '07 - we were not disappointed!

There were 4 of us (myself, good lady and two ladies in training, namely my 14 and 8 yr old daughters) and had booked for a week AI. We were allocated a family room on the 4th floor on the non pool side with a view of Benidorm and the mountains beyond. The rooms are large and airy, with 4 large wardrobes (unlike many Med.hotels) with a built in safe, a bathroom with 2 sinks (V.important with 3 females in your party), shower/bath. A TV is in the room (but hey you're on holiday why do you need one!). The rooms are reasonably sound proofed too! which can be a major bonus (some of you will know what I mean). Towels were changed daily, and bedding twice weekly.

The hotel is large, clean and spacious and all the communal areas are clean and litter free. The pool is fairly large (but by golly, COLD but it was the week before Easter in April) and there were plenty of sun beds available. There is also an inside pool which was handy considering the weather when we there - but that ain't no fault of the hotel!

Food is eaten in the one and only restaurant and is plentiful for both hot/cold - I don't eat meat and there was always plenty of choice available. Food can be had for most of the day from 7am through to 11pm at night.

Likewise the various bars open at 9am and are open for all inlcusive drinks until 12am from whence you have to pay. The choice is very good - local Baileys, vodka, bacardi, brandy, whisky etc, bottles of wine a plenty and all served in GLASSES not the awful plastic/paper cups at many places. You are free to take drinks back to your room at any time - the maids take away any empty crockery/glasses daily.

There is an adults only pool on the roof with a bar, and a piano bar for adults only too.

The staff are courteous and helpful even when under pressure from hen/stag parties - yes they were a few there but they caused no problems at all. there was wide range of ages and party sizes there when we went.

Having talked to many people, they were on their 4/5th visits - one couple were on their 9th! What was that tell you about the hotel?

Across the road there are a number of bars, a supermarket and a couple of restaurants - the beach is a 10min walk down a small hill.

Benidorm may have a 'reputation' but having been to Palma Nova last year, I prefer Benidorm. It was cleaner, less brash.

All in all a lovely time - go and be pleasantly surprised!

Reviewed April 13, 2009

We stayed at this hotel from 4th - 11th April with our 15yr old son and 22 yr old daughter and her friend. We have been to Benidorm twice before, each time at Easter, and stayed in the Terralta Apartments. The only reason we went to the Flamingo Oasis this time was due to the poor exchange rate with the Euro - we thought it would be cheaper to go AI rather than SC. BIG mistake! As my daughter is disabled I emailed the hotel before hand and requested a low floor room. This was granted and we were given rooms on the 1sr floor overlooking the hospital. The girls had one room and we were next door. The girls room was quite tatty, lumps of plaster missing from the walls, but ours was not too bad. Both were clean and spacious. The beds are horrendously hard, I had a sore neck for 2 days and eventually slept on the sofa bed for the rest of the week which was marginally better. The maids worked hard and were very efficient.
The restaurant was like a school canteen. The staff were hard working but a bit on the surly side. There was plenty choice of food but sadly the quality was lacking. Salad bar was the same all week with pretty tasteless concoctions of leftovers from breakfast or lunchtime. I noticed the breakfast sausage and bacon mixed in with pasta! There was a carvery every mealtime, roast beef, ham, chicken and salmon. This was tastier than the hot plate meals. Food was very lukewarm, although there was a microwave you could use to heat things up. You could have a bottle of wine with dinner, which was a nice touch to save going back and queing for a second glass.
The entertainment was not very good. I have no doubt the ent staff work hard, but it was just not my kind of thing. The piano bar was like a morgue. Saga holidays came to mind. We are in our early 50's but consider ourselves young at heart so lasted only 10 minutes before bailing out. The daytime activities consisted of playing bingo or a quiz and one day they had a paper aeroplane flying contest!!! Come on, I didn't pay £2200 to do that! What an insult! My 15yr old was totally bored for the full week and spent a fortune on the internet using MSN to catch up with friends as there was nothing for him to do. A room for teens with X Box, Wii and some games etc wouldn't go amiss.
On a positive note, the staff all work hard and are very friendly. Even the security guard was friendly, although I think he thought he was Bruce Willis - well, he did look similar to him! Kelly on reception is a lovely girl and very helpful.
If we do go back to Benidorm I would most definately stay at the Teralta rather than the Flamingo Oasis. It's number 1 on TA for a reason - way better than the Flamingo Oasis and cheaper too. I was expecting more from this hotel and was really disappointed. Many guests spoke about it going down hill and I can understand this. I certainly will not be returning.

Flamingo Oasis at Benidorm
An excellent hotel.
I do not know why some folks complain big time about the standards of this hotel?
All hotels have some flaws even this one.
This hotel is a 4 star rated hotel but what some people do not understand is that the facilities (like gyms, saunas, indoor pools and the like at hotels help build up stars
Its not just bed rooms.

Take it from me book this hotel.

This is mainly a Thomas Cook and Thomson customer hotel.

CHECK IN
Quick check in every thing is ready from temporary room card to paper work.
Then a some times a slower queue to get photo ID cards.

ROOMS
Our bed room was on the 9th floor (room 907) which was in my eyes big and clean the bath room is also big (with 2 sinks). Beds were comfortable even the extra bed for the 3rd person in the party.

The TV in the room (if you watch any during your holiday) has BBC 1, ITV 1, ITV 2, Sky sports 1, Sky sports 2, Setanta. BBC news, Sky news. Amongst other channels.

RESTURANT
Food is above par compared to most other hotels I have been in. with great roasts. Tip’s for the restaurant is give your self plenty time , do not go in with minuets to spare because they take the food off dead on time, you may have to queue to get in (peak periods) but it is fast moving. Also make sure some one from your party sits at the table always because it will be cleared and possibly some one else sitting there by the time you get back from serving your food.
The snack time food is sometimes left over food from main meal times and could have been sitting there for a few hours so keep an eye on what you are eating then.

LIFTS
There are 6 lifts and 25 (27 including ground and basement floors at peak periods the lifts can be a pain.

BARS
The standard drinks of San Miguel and the usual wines spirits etc with the addition of Strongbow on draught included with the all inclusive bar.
Peak periods had a queue but this was no different than waiting to be served at a busy bar back at home.

ENTERTAINMENT
DAY TIME
The usual kids clubs and adult activities pool, darts quiz etc.

ENTERTAINMENT
NIGHT
If you want good seats or even just a seat I recommend you get in the room early (opens 20:00) and make sure some one keeps in the other seat(s) while you go to the bar etc other wise it will disappear. The shows and acts are good the entertainments team work hard with musicals, free prize bingo and the famous kids discos. Later on some adult acts like hypnotist, comedian’s etc these come on around 23:00 but the entertainments team puts on a Disney movie for the kids while these are on stage.

OTHER INFO
Keep your ID card with you at all times and do not loose it (20 euros for a replacement)
Game of pool is 1 euro in the games room, 2 euros else where.
Want extra free internet time use computer number 6 get an extra 5 minutes on this pc (info correct during week
4/4/09 - 11/4/09.

All the staff was friendly
Every thing is done to the second so get what you want early.

I have been to bad hotels and put honest comments on these sites,

We travelled with Thomas Cook on this occasion the only fault’s I came across were
No Entertainment on out bound flight no apology or comment was made.
The coach back to the hotel was over filled with about 2 people without actual seats kids had to sit on laps.

FINAL TIP’S
Terra Mitica
If you really want to go book your tickets over here on line and get 2 days for the price of one, the price I paid came out cheaper than paying on the gate for only one day go to
http://www.attractiontix.co.uk/terra-mitica.asp
to buy over here for the best deals £29 for a two adult day ticket £22 child go Take your voucher to the customer service desk to get your 2 day tickets (same ticket for two days)... Use bus numbers 1 and 4 outside hotel next door to flamingo 1st bus 10.20am but get to the stop early bus came 10 mins early one day.

One final tip get you cigarettes from the Tabacos Shops in Benidorm they are much cheaper than in airport and watch the closing times of these shops because I missed out when they closed at 14:30 on Friday.

Good luck and enjoy your visit to The Flamingo Oasis.

If you are looking for a vacation that captures the essence of Spain, stay away from this hotel and away from Benidorm in general.

The Flamingo Oasis is a nice hotel that tries to be a 4 star, but cuts corners and is 3 star at best. I will start with the compliments- the hotel and rooms are exceptionally clean and the maid service is commendable.

On the downside, the food is mediocre. Every breakfast is exactly identical and every lunch and dinner tastes the same, even though the names of the dishes change slightly. They must use the same gravy base for all their meat because no matter what is floating around in it, it tastes the same. It's too bad when you pay for an all-inclusive and end up wanting to go to a restaurant across the street to get a little variety. Also, if you want water with your breakfast, you have to go fill up your glass in the loo. They do not have a water tap available in the restaurant and keep the bottled water literally locked up until lunch time. They do have orange/tomato juice, full fat milk (warm) & coffee/tea though for breakfast so some people may not mind the lack of water. And if you wait until 9:00 AM you can go upstairs to ask for a bottle of water at the bar. But if you arrive at the upstairs bar at 8:50 AM, the staff will tell you that they are not allowed to hand out water until 9:00--per the hotel management's orders. At breakfast, during the main rush, the fresh fruit area was often "being mopped" and there were barriers up that seemed to dissuade people from visiting that section of the buffet. It officially was open, but didn't appear to welcome you.

We went to Benidorm to spend a mid-term break in a warm weather environment. We were hoping to spend some time swimming which didn't happen due to mediocre weather which obviously doesn't have anything to do with the hotel. However, we were disappointed that during our entire one week visit, the only hot tub was drained and barricaded off. Don't know why- we never saw any work being done around it. There is an indoor pool, but it is marginally comfortable (according to the sign on the wall, Spanish rules do not allow an indoor pool to be above something like 26 degrees Celsius). The swimming room was an otherwise dark and unattractive room (basement) and was not enjoyable to spend time in. The beach is about a 20 minute walk from the hotel.

There are other potential recreation options in the hotel, but they are quite run down. There are mini golf holes on the roof of the lobby that look like they have been exposed to the sun and rain for too many years. The game room downstairs is also very drab and has an odor. My kids wanted to play pool (at 1 Euro per game), but the smell was enough to keep me away. Plus the tables were old and run-down with bumpers that were coming off the frame of the table and didn't work at all.

In short, if you want to enjoy a vacation that has even a touch of Spanish culture, do not go to Benidorm and do not go to the Flamingo Oasis. We were warned about this prior to our vacation, but did not appreciate how very true it was. If we could take this vacation again, we'd look for a hotel in Denia or Altea, which are just down the road by bus or train and actually have some local character.
