“disapointed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2012

Decided to book this hotel as we stayed last year in the Royal opposite (sister hotel). Last year in the Royal there was hardly any entertainment but there seemed to be a lot going on in the Victoria, so we booked this hotel this year. Just come back today after 10 days and we were disapointed. First the good points, the rooms are spacious and the views were spectacular from the the 13th floor. Rooms were made up every day, clean towels but some days our cups and saucers were not washed and bins were not emptied. Food was good but certainly not as good as the Royal last year and considering that both hotels serve the same food i would say that standards have dropped. We ate well though, hake, sole, salmon, beef etc., but we found the choice better last year in the Royal. (We were told last year that the food is prepared in the Victoria and shipped across the road). The beginning of the week there was a menu displayed of what was for lunch and dinner so you could decide if you wanted to eat in or not, but this suddenly stopped midweek. The pool was small but it did have a waterfall which was put on occassionaly during the day. The pool was was closed and there was no music and no atmosphere so we decided to go out most of the day. On the one day that we were told the bar was going to be open we decided to spend the day at the pool and the bar opened for 20 minutes and closed again. It's not that we wanted alchol all day but it was a pain to get dressed to go inside the hotel up the lift to the bar every time u wanted a cold drink or coffee. There was no entertainment in the Victoria in the 10 days that we were there only spanish dancing across the road at the Royal which we watched most evenings off our balcony. So if you want a quiet holiday with reasonably good food (lots of fish) this is the hotel for you. But we wont be going back there again. Oh i almost forgot the beds are very hard and my partner ended up sleeping on the sofa bed as his back got so bad he ended up on strong painkillers in agony. The locaction of the hotel is excellent right by the old town 5 mins from the beach that's why we choose the both hotels.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have better views.

Dear Beverley,
On behalf of the Best Western Hotel RH Victoria we send our sincere thanks for your recent review of the hotel.

We are sorry to hear that your stay was disappointing, in particular as you chose the Victoria after staying at the Hotel RH Royal last year. You appear to have enjoyed the spacious room and fabulous views that higher floors offer. Please rest assured that we have taken note of your points about cups and saucers and bins. This has been discussed with housekeeping and we will ensure this does not happen again.

I am pleased you have eaten well during your stay, although you think the food is not quite the same. We are constantly improving on our services and will take your comments on board. Our food quality and suppliers are monitored and reviewed constantly. I know the menu was removed from display whilst you were here, as we were in the process of changing the menu wheel. This was being updated for seasonal summer dishes and the changes are carried out twice per year.. Please accept our apologies.

All our services are now up and running along with the pool bar. I can understand that sometimes we don’t always find beds as comfortable as at home, but I am pleased your partner had the choice of sleeping on the sofa bed, which he found more comfortable. The location as you suggest is excellent and very close to the both beaches and the “Old Town”.

I hope Beverley that you do come back to visit us again in the near future and take this opportunity once again in thanking you for taking time to share your experience

Kindest Regards

Ana Martinez – Manager

We had stayed twice at the Victoria for Christmas and New Year and we, were very comfortable there, so when our 30th wedding anniversary came round we decided to go back to the Victoria. I booked on lowcostholidays as usual and paid extra for a "superior" room as it was a special occasion.

When we arrived we were given a room on the 2nd floor. I asked if there was an alternative on a higher floor. The receptionist looked right through for "superior" to the "standard" room we had been given on our previous stays. It was much smaller, and although one could see the sea, it was only a blue stripe between two other hotels. This was disappointing, but we felt that it would be no point in complaining, as this was the only room available to us.

Other than that, the Hotel Victoria was just as we remembered it. Jesus and Vicente in the bar remembered us from Christmas and we found all the staff to be helpful, friendly and efficient as usual. Some people said they thought the restaurant staff were a bit offhand, but I believe this is because their English is not as good as the "front of house" staff - we tried our best with our phrasebook Spanish and they were very appreciative.

There didn't seem to be many British people at the hotel when we stayed - not a problem for us, we enjoy the mix of nationalities. The Victoria is a great base for exploring the old town and is only a short walk from all the bars and clubs of Levante, should you want a bit of adventure! We particularly enjoyed the Bodhran, where Brendan entertains everyone and the staff are really friendly; Heartbreak Bar and the Tiki Bar on the beach; Lucky's Bar next to the Shamrock; Churchill's; Will Sparkle's show at Queen's in the old town, and of course the wonderful pintxos and tapas available all over the old town.

Benidorm didn't disappoint us, but we weren't used to the heat and so didn't get around as much as we did in Winter. We wanted to book the Victoria again for Christmas, but couldn't find it on any of the budget websites, so we've booked into the Royal across the road, as they seem to be "sister" hotels.

We're saving all our £2 coins and small change so we have lots of spending money!

Room Tip: Rooms ending in 1 or 5 seem to be the smallest ones, but are stil bigger and more comfortable than m...

Went in March and totally forgot to record my views . Funnily enough the fond memories are as rich now as the experience.
We travelled with Thompson and our rep was there to greet us at Alicante airport. We were put on the coach with other Benidorm travellers and were the only ones to be put down for our hotel.
Had to wait a little while for our room as we arrived just before 12 . I explained to reception that it wasn't our fault that we had arrived so early and although we had enjoyed being in the bar for an hour it would be nice to check in . We were put on a higher floor in 505 after our original 405 was not ready. During our stay it transpired there were only about 3 cleaners for rooms so we understood the delay.
One day on returning to the room about 12.15 we noticed our cleaner had just gone in so we nipped across the road to the Royal Hotel where happy hour was 12-1 and enjoyed a copious amount of gin and tonics.
Hotel is laughingly close to Levante beach , once you discover the side lane alongside the Benidorm Plaza next door.
Our balcony was high enough and you do see snatches of beach between the high rise buildings.
We stayed two weeks and in the middle of our stay it rained mercilessly just as we read about the heat wave in Britain.
We took a bus to Alicante on the first day of rain , trying to find the outdoor market. This was a huge mistake but resulted in one of our most enjoyable trips., especially when the bus veered close to the ocean spraying water us.
We went to Valencia to see the Fallas which were going to be set alight on St Josephs day and we enjoyed our night in Benidorm where the small celebration took off with a flaming figure of Moses !
All the best comments on this site we endorse about the hotel. Food wise in the secoind week everything became to familiar so we went a bit further afield to eat. There is a fabulous gay bar in old town called Kafe Klee where we enjoyed an hilarious double drag act.
When the sun came out it was brilliant and it was lovely to sit out on the balcony.
We were a little disdapointed in the Wifi in the room . Our lap top didn't work in the room but was better if you took it down onto the first floor lounge and pointed it to the Royal Hotel.
I was happy with the intenet acess on that floor which you could use for a couple of Euros.
Oue Thompson rep arranged for us to visit two chocolate factories on a coach trip to Villa Joyosa
and we found a bar where they gave us little bits of gratis tapas. Ola!

Room Tip: Have a corner room facing the sea!!

The hotel was in a great location close to the old town the beach and other bars and restaurants. Hotel bar was good value but under staffed as had to wait a while to get served. My little boy loved the climbing frame and ball pit. All the staff made a nice fuss of my son and he loved it. Nice pool and relaxing. Food was nice and was always able to find something to eat.
Would stay again.

Stayed at this hotel end of may/ beginning of June 2012.Read many reviews all very good and it did not disappoint, the staff, the food, the cleanliness all excellent and although the entertainment catered mainly for Spanish that was ok.Our room was 1708 which was very large and the bathroom had a very large corner spa bath very nice for relaxing after a day on the beach. The location was also very good with short walk to the beach, old town, or the lively end of Benidorm.Overall an excellent hotel in a good location for exploring all Benidorm has to offer.Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Room Tip: corner rooms generally bigger

My wife and I spent four days at The Victoria for our honeymoon at the beginning of June and I have to say that this place was spot on in terms of location, food and service.

I booked a Junior Suite, so was expecting a decent room but I was completely shocked at just how tremendous our suite was. It had three balconies, including one with all day sun and four sun-loungers, I didn't really want to leave the place it was that good. If you go and can afford an upgrade ask for room 1707, it is on the seventeenth floor, so give it a miss if you don't like heights. What an amazing view of the whole of Benidorm and out to sea.

Would definetley go back.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay, booked with holiday nights, we got a good deal and paid a minimal amount more for half board instead of bed and breakfast thinking we would probably eat out if the food was disappointing. Other hotels I considered were the Princessa, the Deloix Aquacentre and the Castilla. I chose the Victoria because I preferred the location being closer to the old town.
I booked transfers with Travel Republic (who use A2B) for a ridiculously low £8.50 total return for the two of us. The transfer couldn't have been easier, we came off the plane headed down to level minus 2, gave our name at the desk, were told which coach outside was ours and 20 minutes later we were on our way to Benidorm, 50 minutes later were in the hotel (2nd drop off).
I had emailed the hotel before we left asking if possible to have a very high floor sea view room and when we checked in we're given room 1003. We did ask if they anything higher, which she said they didn't, but when we got to the room we found it was a junior suite (we had booked a standard) so were pleased we didn't persue it too much. The room was huge with twin beds, a sofa bed, two balconies and lots of floor space. The view was lovely a little glimpse of Levante beach to one side and views over the old town to Poniente to the other. Think any higher than 10 may have felt a little too high! We quickly unpacked and headed to a bar on Levante front for a cocktail.
When we got back to the hotel at 9pm for dinner the dining room was probably about half full. There was a good selection of food, two soups, large salad counter and a variety of hot dishes. The food we sampled was nice, hot and frequently replenished. Puddings were a bit hit and miss, but their home made pear and caramel tart and rice cake were really lovely. There was also a fair selection on the wine list and for approx 7euros for their cheapest bottle I would say good value.
We had a comfortable night's sleep and breakfast the next morning was plentiful, hot and again replenished up until the last minute.
We had a look around the hotel and didn't really like the look of the bar and if you sat outside it felt as though you were on the pavement, so we drank in The Royal Hotel across the road which had a much nicer atmosphere. There was a 2-1 drinks offer between 8-9pm, but even without the offer the drinks were very reasonable. One night my husband had a very very generous measure of a 10 year old brandy for 2.50 euros and my small bottle of Benjamin cava was 3.75.
Location wise I can't fault this hotel. A few minutes walk got you straight into the old town and 15 minutes ISP got you towards the livelier square and cabaret bars. On the first night we went to Sandra's and saw Asa Elliott, who was fantastic. Apart from that we didn't really see many other acts, we popped our heads into some bars and sampled a miming Elvis, Take That, a soul group and about 10 minutes of comedian Tony Scott. To be honest I found the Square a bit intimidating and preferred the old town's atmosphere.
The pool is small, but we always managed to find a sun lounger if we needed one. There were various things to keep children occupied, pool, table tennis etc, but I'm not sure whether it feels like a family friendly hotel, so don't know if we would return with our two boys.
Usually I would only give 5/5 to luxury hotels with fine dining, but I am giving this hotel 5 because it was perfect for what we wanted for a short break.
In summary I would say that the hotel definitely has an 'older clientele' base and at 38 and 49 we were probably the youngest English people there. The hotel is obviously very popular with Spanish guests, I would say over 90%, but the staff were polite and helpful to us at all times.
Would I return, yes definitely, I think it was excellent value for money and the location definitely made it for us.

Room Tip: Room 1003 is a junior suite with two balconies and great views over the old town to Poniente.
