“Weak four star”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Not one of the top four star hotels.
A bit outdated in certain areas. Pool area and reception a bit on the dull side for a four star hotel. Rooms okay but very, very small. The air condition of the old type with a box on the wall in the room and a big unit on the balcony. Very noisy when it’s on. Charges extra for the safe in the room. I have stayed in several four star hotels where that’s of course is included in your price. Food in restaurant OK. Plus for TV with english speaking channels. Over all, not to impressive for the price we paid in August 2013.

Saw a few reviews about bad food but I have to disagree- considering its an 'inclusive' hotel, all you can eat buffet style it is actually quite good in comparison to other places. breakfast was good and has everything you could want, different choices fir dinner each night, they had a paella demonstration one night where the chefs cooked it outside and gave out their recipe. Entertainment each night was decent enlightened to listen to in the background. Bed was a bit disappointing as was two rickety singles that kept moving apart. Rooms and whole hotel were always cleaned well. Biggest downside was the sauna and hot tub look like they are permently out of order. Some reviews have said about the lifts being slow which is true but we were on 15th floor but it was only a couple of times that we had to wait for long enough to pass comment. Air con in room was good - almost too good as it got quite cold through the night if it was left on too low. Staff were friendly and helpful, one seemed to have a little bit of an attitude but we didn't have much to do with him. Can not comment on value as it was a trip we won so do not know the actual cost but drinks were reasonable. 2 long drinks were €5 before 6pm, €3.50 each after 6pm, €5.50 cocktails and wine with dinner was only €7-10 per bottle. That reminds me to mention that drinks with breakfast are included but drinks at night even water are charged for.

So a review of the Benidorm Plaza a 4 star hotel !!
From the outside the hotel looks like a modern bright welcoming hotel however once inside that changes dramatically
The reception staff were curt and not particularly welcoming or enthusiastic
The rooms themselves are dated and fall way behind even the budget hotels like a travel lodge and others such like hotels basics as tea and coffee making facility are not included clean rooms but unfortunately still in the 1990 decor. The beds were comfy and the room did have air con the bath room was adequate but overall the room was very basic and small As for the food again for an alleged 4 star Thompson holiday it was totally lacking in imagination or variety I really do not wish to get started on desert mainly as there wasn't any unless you like yoghurt or ice cream oh and the rows and rows of fruit The waiters in the dining room are severely lacking in personality and also manners unless you are Spanish I personally found them rude and not typical of the resort may be they should try working in some of the bars we visited may help with there obvious poor attitude towards guests that did not speak Spanish however praise must be given to very young waiter I think called Gabriel who smiled when taking our order and was very polite
The one night we did attend the hotel entertainment every word spoken was in Spanish very much alienating the British customers
In truth the evening entertainment was of a very poor standard and was more suited to a holiday camp than an alleged 4 star hotel if you have watched Phoenix Nights then the backing group for Jerry st clare must have been copied from the group we had on offer "Alons"
Most other evenings the entertainment was either Flamenco dancing or more often than not a raffle as in most cases you do end up speaking to other holiday makers from the UlK all of whom also thought the evening entertainment was of a very poor standard. would very much like to know how the star rating is given to hotels as I say cleanliness wise not an issue but by today's standards this hotel falls well short of a 4 star rating in taking in to account the the industry standard
On my arrival I requested wifi and was given a weeks free usage very commendable but alas with most things in the hotel it also turned out to be a bit of a downfall I ended up using one of the bars on the beach front who also gave me free wifi certainly wouldn't pay for the second week and can not really understand why this is not free for all guests

The actual resort is everything you expect of Spain super clean beach lovely hot weather and friendly bar staff serving copious measures of alcohol in your cocktail or Gin & tonic plus very appetising bar snacks recommend the Moon Bar in fact the management at the Benidorm Plaza should visit the bar themselves for a lesson on courteous Staff
In conclusion if you do find yourself opting for this hotel do not expect the wow factor andcertainly go bed and breakfast and eat out at some excellent restaurant bars in the old town. Despite the short falls of the hotel I had a fantastic holiday in Benidorm

Stayed here twice now and found it to be a great hotel in a great location for getting to the old town, which Is a 5 minute walk. Situated opposite the Royal Hotel and adjacent to the Victoria. Checking in was smooth, took 4 minutes if that. As id been before I knew where everything was, but think this should be explained at reception. Free wifi, which was good. The food was good, always had a great choice, from ranging from fish, steaks, octopus, stews n mash potatoes :-) Rooms were spacious and air conditioned which was a blessing as we went at the beginning of July. 31 degrees phew. Beds were really comfy and the showers were great. Room service was everyday and the maids didn't pester you to leave. They waited until you left the room. The only negative was the dodgy lifts which you had to access via key card, which worked intermittently, most of the time and you had to rely on other guests coming down in the lifts. Overall another great stay

Great break, all pictures and reviews were as good in the flesh. Could not fault staff, rooms and food, the location of this hotel was excellent and central to all with a short walk to the promenade.

Would also recommend short trips to both Albir and Altea, excellent days out.

we have been here many times when it was in the portland brochure, alas they have now gone and finding a good deal here is not as easy as it once was. However it is the best hotel in Benidorm and is bang in the centre of things. A bit short on sun spots and is best suited for walking from in either direction. Sequence dancing can be found here as can the more risky spanish version. The entertainment is ancient and needs an update. Food is brilliant and the staff are excellent. Its cosy and we will go back if we can find a good deal on the haunted box.

Room Tip: They are all of except some face away from the sea.

The hotel fell short on no kettle and also stated in the book in the room not to use your kettle or you will end up with no lights or power. Also upset to find plastic beakers in bathroom and we hired a car and found their parking charge very expensive @ €10.00 per night for outside (did not ask about the underground parking). The plus point was food was very good and varied and our room was always cleaned and bed made daily.

Dear guest,
We are sorry to read that your stay was not as satisfactory as we had desired.
Regarding the kettles it's true we haven't them in the rooms, and are studying this option. But about the power of the electricity, I don't know where you have read it.

We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again at the benidorm Plaza.

Yours sincerely
