“Good relaxing holiday”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

Just back from a very relaxing holiday at the Sandos Monaco. Just about everyrhing was good only a couple off minor things stop me from giving it a 5 rating. Reception very friendly and helpful.Rooms a good size large bathroom maybe just a bit tired looking.Small things that let room down was cleaning very basic failure to always replace used toiletries and milks for tea and coffee.Bars clean and service very quick and friendly,Pool area clean and spacious only problem is pool area does not get a lot of sun but the sun terrace does get the sun all day. They say pool area open at 10 but door usually open by 9 so usually small que waiting by 8.45.Restaraunt staff also very good and cheery food was excellent no problems at any meal maybe only slight gumble would be that buffet could be a bit hotter but is that not the same at most A/i.Can not comment on the Spa as this was not working while we were there due to maintanance being carried out.We upgraded to select which i think was just about worth it if they gave you a slightly better room then it would certainly work.
If you need any other info just ask and i will try and help.

Spent 10 days at this hotel can not fault it. The food excellent, rooms lovely, bar staff very friendly and always having a laugh. Entertainment poor but i must say Raquel done a good job entertaining us and also Nicky hotel adviser telling us everthing we needed to know about hotel and area . Lovely, very clean rooms, bathroom etc excellent. (maid hard working). Didnt get sun in pool area till midday which was a shame.

Have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Monaco. We have stayed in Benidorm many times at different hotels but this hotel is by far the best.We found the staff very friendly not rude as some are saying but unfortunately some holidaymakers create rudeness by their own attitude.. The rooms were spacious with the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. The choice of food was excellent and everywhere was spotlessly clean.

Room Tip: We asked for a lower floor so we didnt have to rely on lifts.

My friends and I stayed here as a group of eleven from 27th Sept for 3 nights. All of our group loved this hotel and said they would return without any hesitation. Rooms were of a high standard as was the food where the choice was very good. We decided not to upgrade to premium as we were happy with everything as it was. Pool and terrace area was lovely, peaceful and relaxed.Staff were friendly and accomodating whenever we required anything. Hotel in a great position just minutes from beach, which is lovely and clean,Also just a short walk from old town and new town. The weather wasn`t great but it didn`t stop us from having a great time. We will definatley be back.

Room Tip: hotel has 16 floors so choose higher for better views

Spent ten days here ,second visit was even better than the first.rooms are lovely.food was good, good choice always.
When we stayed here two years ago ,we found the bar staff very unfriendly, but what a difference this time.they were all helpfull and service with a smile always.
Raquel was very good as always, she was helpfull and friendly at all times.
Nikki the customer relations lady made herself known to everyone, she was also friendly.
Would go back again.only thing I would say is that if you have a cocktail menu you should make sure someone knows how to make them.

Room Tip: We have been on pool side and hotel front ,it made no difference.

My husband and I stayed at Sandos Monaco for 10 days from 12th Sept.2012 and we had no
complaints whatsoever. Found reception staff helpful, bar staff very friendly always joking and
laughing and cleaning staff always friendly. All areas spotlessly clean. Rooms large with wide
screen tv on the wall with several free-view english channels. Bathroom large with power shower.
Pool area very clean and very comfy sun-loungers. I am very fussy with food but I found the food
to be lovely.
Everything you could think of was there various meats, cheese, fruit, fish, etc. fresh bread and rolls. Carvery always available. Lovely desserts. Wine, beer, sangria and soft drinks also available in dining - room.
Evening entertainment is not fantastic but ok. Location is perfect. The new town on the left of the hotel
and the old town on the right. 10 minutes walk to the beach. 10 minutes walk to all the nice proper shops in the old town. If we return to Benidorm we would definitely book this hotel again.

Just returned from a 10 day break with friends to this hotel, hotel is in a great location short walk from beautiful beach, turn left from hotel for new town and turn right for the old town.
The hotel is very lovely with great facilities, pool and jacuzzi, rooms spacious, the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in, flat screen tv with english channels and sky news.

We booked the Select Silver band service which enables you to enjoy premium brand drinks, tea and coffee making facilities in your room and a fridge which was stocked with water, (non sliver band wearers have to pay for water!) soft drinks, beer and a bottle of cava.

The siver band also entitles you to access to the select lounge located separate to the main bar area. The lounge is very nice, stocked with all your premium brand spirits, wines, soft drinks, beer and WATER, along with tea and coffee, additional to the drinks are bowls of crisps, nut, olives, pickles to nibble. In addition to the nibbles in the morning you can enjoy fresh danish, croissants, muffins donuts and the like, from lunchtime onwards there are little sandwiches too so all in all you would certainly not go thirsty or hungry.
Obviously you can still obtain drinks from the regular bars unless of course you want premium drinks or water in which case you are told to go to the select lounge, or if you want cider or any other bottled beer eg budweiser you still have to pay 2.20 a bottle for!

I personally and from chatting to other silver band wearers was not alone in feeling like some kind of leper segragated from the rest of the hotel guests, for instance if you were in the downstairs bar watching the entertainment and wanted a premuim drink you had to traipse upstairs to the select lounge.

Also if you wanted to have a cigarette there was access to the terrace from the select lounge, the door was locked so basically you had to sit in a room away from the lovely weather and have your drinks rather than sit outside.

Now onto the staff, Raquel the lady that did the entertainment was brilliant couldnt fault her in anyway, total asset to the hotel, also Nicky the hotel P.R i think was equally brilliant very pleasant and helpful.
Reception staff: to be honest they were ignorant especially Deborah, looked at you like you were something that blew in from the gutter, all false smiles which dropped as soon as you asked them for anything that required them leaving thier chair and actually listening to you. Also they should realise that not all English are like the soap operas and actually may have travelled before and may even speak a foreign language before they insult them in spanish to thier colleagues.

Bar Staff; we found the bar staff to be very rude, making it obvious that they really had no time for english guests and were only interested in even making eye contact and cracking a quick smile if you tipped them (which we always do) perhaps they are unhappy as if the Select customers are pouring thier drinks themselves in the select lounge they are missing out on tips.

Maids, very hardworking and always smiley and chatty hotel was spotless

Restaurant Staff, chefs all really chatty and pleasant and food was very good couldnt fault it, however the staff that clear you plates were quite unpleasant wouldnt even answer you if you spoke to them.
Seems to me that either the staff dont like English People or maybe Sandos are a terrible company to work for as the morale must be terrible to choose a customer service proffession and be that miserable.

Sounds like im being over the top moaning you are probably thinking, this is the first review I have ever made on tripadvisor even though I use it to select hotels when I travel but the issues I have raised really did dampen an other wise wonderful stay and I think the hotel management really should invest in some customer service training and review the Select Package system.

On a final note I think its right to mention some issues with security, the first week we were there some unknown people took the lift up to the second floor (where our rooms where) and sprayed the fire extinguisher powder under the bedroom doors. Fortunately we were out late and didnt know until we got home and found powder all over the floor. Aparently this is a trick that Eastern European criminals use to make you think there is a fire so you open your door and they rob you charming! but a little worrying that any one can walk in off the street and gain access upstairs.
Also whilst we were there a couple returning to the hotel were stopped right outside asked the time and the gentleman had a gold chain ripped from his neck, not the hotels fault I know but the couple were obviously distressed and had no sympathy from reception staff and had to go to police to report the incident themselves as they did not want to know.

To sum up this is a lovely hotel but unless they had a radical change of attitude towards the English and changed the stupid Select Package I would definitely not book to stay there again

ALSO THERE WAS NO SPA OPEN aparently it had been shut a while and we were not informed prior to arrival, instead you were offered a free 1/2 hour massage treatment, one of my friends took advantage of this and felt quite uncomfortable as the masseuse clearly did not want to do it and she only had 15 minutes.

If you would like to ask anything else please message me.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking street above entrance really quiet did not get disturbed once
