We have just returned from our 7 day stay at this hotel. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Transfer from Alicante airport took about one hour, this included a few stops at other hotels along the way.
Check in was very smooth, and within 5 minutes we were in our room. Room was spacious with ample storage for clothes etc. Nice balcony with chairs and table. On the downside there was no fridge, kettle or hair dryer in our room. The air con was very efficient though.
Our first time in the restuarant we were allocated a table which we would use for the duration of our stay. In our case this table was shared with another couple. From our observation it seemed different nationalities were kept together in each area of the resturant. The food was buffet style with a wide range of dishes, good choice of vegetables and plenty of fruit/desserts to choose from. Only problem was with some of the food you didn't know what it was as there were no labels. One point to take note of is that you had a pay for any drinks and compared to the local bars these were quite expensive.
For the size of the hotel we found the pool and surrounding area to be often over-crowded and getting a sun lounger was not possible unless you were willing to get up early and reserve one with your towel. There was a large grass area though which we used most days.
Staff were friendly enough, the room was cleaned thoroughly with frequent towel/bed linen changes.
Entertainment was on every night, we found some a little entertaining but think it is more suited to families with children. It's no big deal though as there is plenty to do at night in the surrounding area.
All in all we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Helios but we think it is more suitable for families and older couples.

Just come back ffrom a visit at the Helios which was great value for money. Only stayed 2 nights as we stayed the the first couple of days in Valenica (beautiful city). Walked around Benidorm to find quite a cheap room. Brilant as worked out about £24 PER PERSON PER NIGHT room only. It was clean and lovely balcony. Although I would advise a room over looking the pool if you were booking in advance.
5 mins from beach 5 mins from bars/restaurants!
Great stay!

Having spent a few holidays in Benidorm over the past few years and having noticed a general lowering of standards especially in food choice and preparation I had thought this was the norm now for Benidorm hotels. What a pleasant surprise to find the Hotel Helios maintains high standards in not only food but in all other levels of hotel service.
All members of staff were extremely helpful and pleasant that includes the reception staff, cleaning staff and bar staff with a special mention to the restaurant manager and his staff to whom nothing was any trouble.
You were allocated a table for the duration of your stay and although I know that does not suit some couples who like to dine alone, we found it no trouble and enjoyed our conversations with the other two guests who shared our table, the real plus side was that as all meals were of a buffet style you could always go to your table upon entry to the restaurant instead of waiting for a table to become available. The tables were kept in an immaculate condition and used dishes removed very quickly and never allowed to build up, the food was of a very high standard during our week stay, always hot and with a excellent choice of dishes that seemed to cater for all tastes and nationalities and were at all times kept in a plentiful supply.
The cleanliness of all public areas of the hotel and the bedrooms were kept to a very high level all though our stay, the only real problem area was the pool area with at least half of the sun beds in a very poor state of repair rendering them not suitable for use. The pool chairs and tables were also unusable because of the dirty condition and although cleaned eventually usually a few hours after the pool opened it was generally down to the guests to find a cloth to clean them.
Rather disappointing that the pool area should let down otherwise what must be the best hotel of its star rating in Benidorm, one I would definitely visit again.

My wife and i are both in our late 50's, and have stayed in Benidorm before but never at the Helios. On arrival we were greeted politely at reception and booked in no problems.
Our room was on the 4th floor. There are two lifts. Our room was air conditioned (May onwards) and had hot blown air heating. It was very clean and had a nice bathroom & shower, toilet & bidet. Ample clean towels were provided. It had twin beds (very comfortable) and plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space. Large double glazed patio doors led onto a balcony with patio chairs and table (also small drying line). If you like a cuppa in your room
you will need to bring your own kettle etc.
We were on full board basis and must say that the buffett style restaurant was brilliant. You are allocated a numbered table which remains yours for the whole of your stay. The food was absolutely great, with something for everyone. Breakfast starts at 0800 and goes on to 0945. Cereals, fruit, croissants, rolls pastries toast marmalades, jam, honey, fruit juice, fried runny eggs, bacon, beans chips, ham, hardboiled eggs cheeses, tea coffee, all freshly cooked and tasty. Lunch was excellent & dinner was superb with great variety of starters, main meals inc meat fish, salads etc all very tasty and well cooked.
Drinks waiter was quick & efficient.
With superb comfortable large reception area, excellent large and comfortable bar area, Outside covered (sliding roof) swimming pool with tables and chairs and loungers and a smaller childrens pool + small equipped playground.
Ther is a main bus stop right outside and a taxi rank.
The large market is 3-4mins easy walk (Sun & Wed) and the main entertainment areas are within 5 min walk. The superb beach is about a 10 min casual stroll away. Plenty of shops all around you. We travel a lot and have stayed in some of the best (& worst ) hotels in the world and the Helios is the best 3* we have ever stayed in ! Can only think of a few negatives, Wine in the restaurant is expensive - avoid, (bottle of water is 1.3 euro) and you do get some noise in the rooms from inconsiderate guests ! Best rooms have a pool view where you get the sunshine on the balcony from midday onwards. English guests were in the minority to Spanish & Belgium. If you are 40+ and have never been to Benidorm before, consider going mid October til Mid May to avoid the noisy and unruly English Lager louts. Lastly the entertainment in Benidorm is legendary, free and right on your doorstep. Avoid the comedians unless you are very broadminded. Although some families took their children in these clubs we would definately not reccomend this because content and language was certainly for adult ears only.

On arrival at the HELLious we were "confronted" with Miguel -probably the most dour and unhelpful receptionist in Spain. (and I speak Spanish)
We spent a week here in mid November 07 and wanted to leave after our first evening meal. The food was atrocious and was similar to school dinners in the 60's. There were many guests that had been there for two weeks and had lost the will to live.

Our main reason for visiting Benidorm was due to it being fiesta week and normally the place is buzzing - it was - but with literally dozens of stag and hen parties (from the UK) the streets were inevitably full of drunks at any given time of the day and night.

We both enjoy a laugh as most people do whilst on holiday but we have decided Benidorm no more!

Some Hotels are "tired" and need a lick of paint BUT I am afraid that the Helios is a terminal case.

There are a choice of many hotels in Benidorm PLEASE DO NOT choose this one. You will be bitterly disappointed and will eat out every night!
Kind regards
Harry & Maggie

My boyfriend and i stayed at the helios for a week with our 9 year old twin boys. The hotel was very clean, beds made everyday and towels changed every day too. We arrived late in the evening and were given a picnic tea to take up to our room which consisted of sandwiches, fruit, boiled eggs and bread rolls with tins of pate. Also bottles of water which came in handy due to the fact it was 30 degrees when we arrived! The buffet style breakfast and evening meal was passable and not repetitive which i had read about before we went. The only bad experience i had of the food, was a bread roll that i picked up and found there was some sort of insect embedded in it! Can happen anywhere though i suppose. The pool was clean but the hotel ruled no ball games or floating airbeds etc to be used at anytime. The gift shop in the hotel was only open i think once while we were there, although we were usually out and about most of the time so perhaps missed the opening times! The nightlife is right on your doorstep, but i can honestly say that it didnt disturb me at all, even into the early hours. The only real disappointment of our stay at the hotel would have to be the nightly entertainment. The resident DJ was simply awful and went from one extreme to the other with his selection of music. The old 70's and 80's songs were played every night, but he also insisted on playing 1950's so called classics to which no-one actually got up and danced to all the time we were there, plus some rather poor spanish dancing which was accompanied by a spanish speaking woman introducing each dance to which we couldnt understand a word of! For children there wasnt much in the way of entertainment but was a couple of pool tables by the bar/pool area and internet access inside the hote foyer which staved off the boredom as us adults enjoyed a relaxing drink after our evening meal! Overall i and my family enjoyed our stay and would return to Benidorm, but perhaps try another hotel just for the experience, as the helios caters more for the spanish holiday makers, rather than us. There is loads to do in and around Benidorm if you have children and the beach, if you fancy a cheap day in the sun! I would recommend it to anyone wanting a fun and carefree break with the family! Oh and if theres a few of you, then its cheaper to get a taxi rather than the buses that run (just a little tip to save some cash!) to the attractions such as the water park and theme park. I would defo say visit the zoo as its really well set out and can fill in a full day. There is also a small water park attached for which you get free entry to when you purchase your entranve tickets to the zoo. Unfortunately, we spent so much time looking at the animals and following the tiger trails etc that when we got to the water park at 7pm it had closed! Never mind though, the day out was worth every euro!
