“Room for improvement but overall, excellent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2012

We overall loved this hotel. The friendliness of the hotel staff and the Thomson staff was great, the reps were SO helpful, especially Leona who booked our theme park tickets but the others were excellent too.

We travelled as mother and daughter and found that overall, for what we paid and for the star rating, we could not fault the hotel.

The entertainment did not start until late (sometimes not after 9pm) which was not ideal when we were tired after a long day but we did go and play bingo at nearby bars and see groups and singers so it was fine. The beds were quite hard and it look a few days for my back to recover.

The food was absolutely excellent BUT the sausages and bacon in particular were poor quality and not fit to eat - bacon was a tiny strip of meat in a load of fat and the sausages had a strange texture.

It took reception five days to sort out our air conditioning but once we reminded them (maybe someone forgot to write it down, they do get very busy!) it was done within the hour. The curtains however were blackout curtains and they kept a lot of the heat out if we wanted a hour or two sitting in the room when it was hot.

The pool is SO large, it was really fun to use and so was the sun terrace and outdoor bar. The Rio Connection bar was great and the staff in there were so friendly and attentive, and even asked each day how we were and what we had been up to.

We did hear of a burglary on the 7th floor where someone had left their balcony doors open and gone out, so be careful. Use the safety deposit boxes. Don't leave your balcony doors open on a night time as a precaution, however hot it is!

The hotel now has security guards on the 'yellow brick road' and it is well lit, so no problems there. Still some beggars further up but just ignore them - I saw one answer his ringing iPhone so they are probably not beggars and do this to make a living, then go home to their apartment.

Perhaps the lifts need reprogramming too as sometimes even if you call them they do not stop and whiz past you, and this can be a little annoying at meal times when you're on an upper floor and also when it's time to get on the coach home with your suitcases.

Maids excellent - they even put in little touches like a small amount of sweets and are very friendly and chatty even in English (although I do speak Spanish).

The location is a 10 min walk to the beach with lots of bars, shops, restaurants etc nearby, the outdoor market just 10 mins walk away and the indoor market not far. Buses cheaper than taxis to take you to the many theme parks.

Internet cafe in the hotel a little bit expensive - 1 euro for 10 mins when an internet cafe near the hotel charged 1 euro for one hour. Free wifi at reception great though.

All in all, really good, can't wait to visit again and will recommend it to all our friends and family! We did not mind the minor things I mentioned, but thought it was only fair to bring them to people's attention. Hotel is a 2 star but overall deserves 3 stars. They said the only reason they could not be a 3 star was the size of the rooms but we found them to be very acceptable and just what we needed.

You can also get BBC1 and ITV1 so it's good if you're there for a while (like some people go for the full winter) and can catch up on soaps if you have a quiet day or night.

On one of the nights, one of the guests came in drunk and pounded on her room door to be let in, it became louder and louder and when we asked her to stop, she verbally abused us. Nevertheless the hotel security intervened straight away and they were given a warning!

The balconies are lovely and all have a washing line and a table and chairs. We were put at the back next to the generators and loud dishwashers/laundry rooms but still a good view and once we closed the balcony door could not hear a thing, great double glazing.

Been going to this hotel for the past 5 years and the rooms are basic and clean. the stafff are friemdly and helpful, the receptionists all speak english and a couple of them are british. Thompsons are also based at the Rio Park and are available 7 days a week. Excellent food and plenty of choice. Lovely family hotel with a good atmosphere - great value for money.

We have just spent 10 days in this Hotel. Its extremely good value for money, we choose half board, wonderful selection of fresh food, well cooked, replenished when needed, sweets very tasty, maybe a few different ones would have been nice, a little samey by the end of 10 days. Good location, we had a car and it was perfectly safe on the road behind the Hotel, we could see it from our room. The only negative for location is the road to get to the entertainment and beach known locally as, the yellow brick road, had a couple of muggings of people on their own in the early hours as the bars are all closed down there and some building work happening, blocking off part of it, so stick to the well lit alternative roads at night to get back to hotel. Large room with three beds, tv with english channels plenty of room cleans and clean towels. Poolside well organised, lots of stag and hen groups well controlled, noisy but its their holiday as well, go to beach for a quieter sunbathe, 2 beds and brolly 12e a day, or buy your own and donate to charity shop when you leave. Staff helpful and friendly, both the hotels and Thomson, even though we had booked independently. Would use this hotel again.

Stayed here last week and the hotel is lovely. Rooms are basic but very clean. We had a bath and shower in our bathroom which I was pleased about! Pool area was lovely and got a sun bed in a great spot every day! The pool was a lovely temperature as well (some pools have been so cold I couldn't face getting in even when it's boiling hot). Weather was in 30s all week :) never had trouble getting a table in dining room Good choice of food but I didn't like some of it but then again I'm fussy! Thompson reps were great. Booked two trips through them mundomer and benidorm palace. Both were brilliant really recommend them. Hotel close to beach only about 10 minutes walk. Annoying reps keep bugging you every 5 minutes though asking you to go into their bar and get a drink and not taking no for an answer. Found ourselves crossing to and fro across the street to avoid them. Do suggest going out somewhere other than hotel though as its not very exciting entertainment lol

Me and my girlfriend stayed here from 04/06/12- 13/06/12 9 nights. Age 28/30

Had a great stay here's my review

Hotel - lovely hotel you get what you pay for, lovely pool,,with different depths for kids/ adults, loads of sun beds, and sun over the pool all day long, lovely reception, and rooms are nice but basic, sky tv in rooms with few foreign channels but also, bbc1,itv and sky news.
Guest are slightly older, but there were a few young families, and young couples, but I think older people just shaded it,anyway we was made welcome and had no trouble

All staff were friendly and polite, with fully English speaking reception, the maid cleaned the room everyday, she came about 10am,if we wasnt ready she would clean next door and comeback.

Food was lovely loads of variety, always left the restaurant with a swollen tummy from all the nice food, they av a live cooking window down one side, often speciality food was here,e.g skewered me done on a grill, paella, muscles, was a tiny bit busy on a evening, but no problem getting a seat, obviously if your looking for a large table, maybe it will be a bit harder.
One tip I would have for the hotel, is put plates at 1 end of the food isle, the stops people attacking the food from both ends, bit of a pain when you've got a nice flowing line from one end and someone comes the other way,but this it much more the guest fault, some need a bit more awareness. But all in all I had a good experience of the restaurant, breakfast was lovely too, everything from a normall full English except fried mushrooms, for the price you pay I think the food is as good as it can be. Also they pride there self in cleanliness, because as you go into the restaurant there is automated alcohol sterilisation gel, to rub on your hands, thought it was a nice touch.

Entertainment was good suometimes and okay others, loved the Dailey quizzes general knowledge and music(you win prizes)also the staf shows were okay but can be a litte repetative, other acts were quite good. A good night is play your cards right, and open the box, cash prizes to be won and alcohol.

Prices- prices of stuff were really good,Sam Miguel was 1.30 euros and 0.85euros in the other bar.they did a really nice capachino in the main bar 1.30, they also do happy hour which is good, and also on the queens jubilee, everything was half price which I thought was a nice touch, we got four vodkas, good servings too, maybe doubles, with 2 cans of red bull for 5.30 euros

Safes are available to rent from the reception, ours was 27 euro for 9 days,5 was a deposit so you get the back.
Computers with internet connection
Rooms with good aircon
Only down fall was no fridge in room, but air con kept water cool.

Security - found it very safe and pleasant in and around the hotel, there is a security guard who patrols the hotel, mainly mans the entrance and the pathway outside the hotel. Also never had anything go missing from the room, not even spare change on the side. You should always rent a safe though, and the rooms doors double lock, not just once.

Area ,near enough to the bars but not close enough for noise, pleasant walk to the beach and old town.

And finally the Yellow brick road( avienda de Murcia) didn't have any issue with this path myself, there was a few empty buildings there, but it's a path, bit like a snicket,it's busy through the day,but at night it's a bit dark, not well lit, inbetween som tall buildings and a few trees, so Iike anywhere you wouldn't use this path at night especially if your a bit old, vulnerable and a had a few drinks, don't get me wrong it feels safe in and around the hotel, but common sense say don't go down a dark path late at night, there's no need for you to use it anyway, anyway ever seen any trouble or heard anything, so please don't be scared of this area, just use common sense

Also visited this hotel when I was 18 and I think all the renovation work been completed is really made it much better.

Room Tip: 2nd floor and above, pool view

We stayed at the Rio Park in May 2012. We had been before and in our view, the food had improved. The staff kept the container area of the food, clean at all times. The food was warm but, there was a microwave if you wanted it hot. The room we got was small and it was a bit of a job getting in the shower as it was a funny shape. TV had all English channels and some sky ones. Entertainment was good on one night and terrible on two nights. The area that the hotel is in was quiet at night as a lot of the bars, cafe's and shops near it were closed down!! We booked through Thompson holidays - hotel only - 4 days before we went. £69 for two people half board!!! So what could we complain about.
