“Very nice and well run hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2009

I stayed in this hotel for a couple of nights with friends. It is a 4 star hotel and I believe it lived up to its rating.

Unlike several others, I found the staff to be very pleasant. Attempting to talk a little Spanish can go a long way.

It has a gym, indoor and outdoor pools and saunas. Rooms and bathrooms very nice and what you would expect from a 4 star. I did not eat there so cannot comment on the food.

It has free and pay parking. A fridge and safe in the room. Large colour flat screen TV with various national TV stations.

My 'only' small complaint would be the sauna. There did not appear to be anyone running the sauna and I had to switch it on and get it hot for use. It taken about 2 hours and it would have been nice if this had been done for my arrival in the morning.

On arrival at the hotel the reception staff are surly to the point of being rude.
The bedrooms are ok but could be cleaned better. I have been in the travel industry for 35 years and would rate the hotel as a 3-4 star.
Dining room lacks atmosphere - breakfast was good but dinner was pretty basic with most of the meat being cold. The outside pool area is good but the indoor pool area is a bit on the scruffy side.
In saying that ,from the outside, the Melia looks to be one of the better hotels in Benidorm.
It's many years since we last visited the resort and won't come back. Full of tacky bars and run down shops. Fortunately we had a car so were able to head out and visit some of the beautiful inland scenery and more upmarket coastal resorts. Good for a 4 day sunshine break but would dread a fortnight holiday !

This hotel is situated about half a mile back, uphill from the Levante beach in a quiet part of Benidorm but within walking distance for evening entertainment.
The rooms are modern, spacious and all of the rooms face the sea, however only the rooms near the top of the building have sea views because of other high buildings in front. I emailed the hotel directly to request a room high in the building and was allocated a room on the 2nd floor! They obviously ignore any specific requests.
Rooms have a fridge and a safe. The safe is opened by your PIN number and a key.
Food in the hotel dining room was good and varied but could be better. Waiting staff were efficient but didn’t look happy at work, no service with a smile.
I think also that the standard of cleanliness could be better both in the rooms and also in the dining room. Rooms do not get cleaned as well as in other hotels of the same standard I have visited. In the dining room the chairs are covered with food stains and need a good clean. Work which could be easily completed if the staff were more enthusiastic and better managed.
Was not very impressed at being charged 11Euro per day for parking when there was no information to say there was a charge for parking.

This hotel was a disaster from start to finish of our rotten holiday. If like us you have high standards dont bother to go here the recent reviews posted must have been from people who dont expect much! The 1st day we had a broken drawer which we reported at least 3 times before something was done & underneath where the drawer was it was filthy dirty as was under the beds etc.think they only clean what you can see! Our daughter had to sleep on a chair bed she is 21 should have been a proper bed.Where to begin on the restaurant it was freezing cold as was the food, on our first night there was one waiter & one waitress on & she was useless dropping food all over the floor & leaving it for someone to slip on she saw it but couldnt be bothered to pick it up, it was awful we ate in there twice! in fact we have never stayed in an hotel so cold in all public areas. The 2nd day got back 5pm our room hadnt been cleaned my husband complained 2or 3 times eventually went down to see the manager & told him what he thought of the place! We have stayed at the mediterraneo in previous years had they not had our money we would have left & gone back there. The pool area was very dirty and the changing rooms were in a disgusting state due to local groups having lessons.Back to the restaurant, one of the two nights we ate in my son had chicken cooked by the chef who was the rudest man( looked like something from a disney film big fellow with grumpy face!) well he cannot cook, the chicken was pink i took it back to him & made him cook it again much to his disgust & the following morning he cooked an omlette which was burnt on outside & runny inside say no more!! We found this hotel to be understaffed except of course at the weekend when the spanish took over & you couldnt even get in for breakfast! Thank goodness my parents were in a nearby apartment we had to go there to eat! SO BEST ADVICE BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Stayed two weeks, lovely room with enormous bed on 11th floor. Food varied and high quality, plenty to choose although desserts a bit sparse. Friendly helpful staff, lovely pool area, great location with buses outside door.

Just returned from 3 nights at the Sol Melia - it was also our first visit to Benidorm. The hotel is fantastic, spacious and clean. In the new side of town, so quieter and more reserved . We are really into our food and this hotel did not disapoint - during our stay we had veal, chicken, scallops, prawns - shell on, sword fish and salmon -cooked to order. Breakfasts were mega with everything you can imagine even Cava and orange juice included. The pool area is vast and we were able to sunbathe (it was THAT warm in February!!) but only swam in the indoor pool which was lovely and warm and clean. The room was cleaned everyday and the staff always greeted you with a friendly Hola. I would advise you to change your money up in resort as you get a much better rate. If you like a drink, then the bars across the road are very reasonable - 1 Euro for a pint of Kronenburg, a set chinese meal with wine for 4.50 Euros. There is a big market on Wednesday morning - 5 minutes walk. If you are a smoker, just follow the blue carrier bags - for half price tobacco and cigarettes. Overall Benidorm was better than I expected and this hotel was excellent - no lager louts/hens/stags etc etc!!! If I returned to Benidorm, then this is where I would stay.
