“Fantastic hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2012

I am writing this review on behalf of my parents who stayed at this hotel 1st week in June on a bed and breakfast basis.
The hotel reception is beautiful and the staff are all very friendly. The rooms were cleaned on daily basis and bedding changed by request if you left a note on the card left in your room. The little touches such as shower caps, shower gel tissues as well as toilet paper in the rooms is what this hotel special for them. it the best hotel that they have stayed in Benidorm ( and they have been many many times). The Breakfast buffet was exceptional there was even champane to go with the strawberries! Yes it was quite expensive to go there but you do get what you pay for! they definatley recommend this hotel.

We booked this hotel very very last minute with Jet2.com and stayed in June for 5 nights on an All Inclusive basis, 2 adults and a six year old and it wasnt cheap. We emailed the hotel and asked for a room on the 4th floor (23 floors in total at this hotel) which we were given. Having stayed at a number of 'Sol' hotels we thought the Melia would be a higher standard but we were disappointed. Here is a summary:

Good Points
-Nice reception, check in wasnt too bad
-Safe deposit not over priced
-Rooms good and very clean
-Excellent maid service, rooms cleaned daily, fresh towels
-Food good quality
-Nice pool area
-Plenty of sunbeds (but this was June and not peak)
-Good location slightly away from the busy town centre
-10 minute walk to the beach
-Good breakfast with Cava and chef who will make omellettes, plenty of fresh fruit, breads, juices, pastries etc
-Has a nice looking Spa (but didnt get to try it)
-Can hire pool towels and pay refundable deposit

Bad Points
-Kids club evening entertainment did not start until 10pm (bit late for small children)
-Entertainment in day average, aqua aerobices, darts, archery etc
-Entertainment at night not very good, very loud and as all room are front facing you can hear the loud music until midnight (especially if on the 4th floor!!)
-No toilets near to the pool area have to walk inside hotel
-Hotel toilets in the evening not regularly cleaned - dirty and no paper and the odd cockroach!!
-Poolside bar doesnt open until 11am
-Poolside bar had 1 member of staff on and he was grumpy
-Kids play area by the pool should be closed, tripping hazards and dirty equipment, only 2 slides and that's it!!
-Haven for stag parties that like to come in at 5am and make lots of noise
-No ice creams available at poolside bar for the first two days of the holiday just ice lollies (although plenty available after first 2 days)

We had an initial problem with our room having a leak in the bathroom but they found us another room immediately and the management were very apologetic.

Overall we had an enjoyable holiday but I would not return to this hotel unless it was a cheap last minute deal and there was no alternative. I would say this hotel is a 3*+ and not quite a 4* due to the service and entertainment.

Hello Melissa11,
First of all we like to thank you for choosing our hotel to join your last holidays in Spain.
We also like to thank you for your comments about all the different services in our hotel. We will take in consideration what you mention as "bad points" and work on them to improve them.

We prefer not to start our mini disco earlier than 10 pm because the majority of our guest are still finishing dinner. For the same reason we don,t open our pool bar till 11 am (breakfast time finish at 10,30 hrs). but there is another cafeteria open from 9 am to 1 pm. Toilets are situated next to the mini club and kids area.
We hope that if maybe you visit us again in the future, we will have another opportunity to give you the most enjoyable experience in Meliá Benidorm.

Booked the Melia as a very last minute holiday. Paid a fortune for the pleasure.
Hotel entrance is beautiful, staff on reception helpful. Got what we asked for - high, quiet room with great views.Hotel in quite a quiet area of town which suited us great with a decent walk to the lovely beach. Had an initial problem with safe and had to ask 3 times to have this attended to.
Rooms very spacious. New pillows after having to ask to have feather pillow removed and they were new, still wrapped memory foam pillows. A/C in room great but didn't detect this anywhere else in hotel. Maid service very good.
Shower not as good as expected and occasionally had hot/cold shower.
Pool lovely but really needed to be kept tidier and garden/planted areas needed a wee boost of colour and weeding! The outdoor furniture badly in need of replacing. Old plastic "off" white tables and chairs, some chairs broken. Pool/bar area would have looked spectacular if this had been upgraded.
Entertainment was awful. Same old same old every night. Off-key singers, singing the same songs. A few minutes walk aweay and you could enjoy a much better qaulity of entertainment in many 3 star hotels
Food was what you would expect with a very reasonable selection but waiting staff really looked as if they'd rather be somewhere else. Not a lot of smiles. Dining room also would have created a bit more of a polished look if tablecloths had been added at dinner time.
Bar staff, with the odd exception, rather rude and drinks were awful. Pointed out repeatedly that we were paying and wanted branded drinks. What was served in this hotel was the worst drinks we had all holiday and not cheap! Plus one waiter kept rattling his tips glass whenever you ordered drinks - dreadful, especially for a hotel of this rating.
I've rated below based on overall hotel facilities, although as I've said above, some parts much better than others.
Would not return to this hotel especially at the price we paid.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor. Views are great.

cant speak for the evening entertainment as we went out every night
the staff did not appear happy at all
but overall a good hotel which we would go back to

We visit Benidrom at least twice every year and the only hotel we consider and stay at is the Melia, Benidrom.
We appreciate that there are other good hotels in Benidorm, but for us the Melia is in a great location and more importantly the staff are very friendly and helpful, and reassuringly many have worked at the hotel for many years.
The facilities are first class and the pool and gardens are outstanding.
We always stay on half board.............the variety, the quality of the food and service is excellent, especially considering the number of guests they are catering for.
The rooms are large, spotless and comfortable with great views of the skyline of Benidorm.
As returning guests a nice touch was the gift of a half bottle of wine from the Management.
Another great stay at the Melia, Benidorm!..............well done and grateful thanks to all the staff at the hotel..............see you later in the year!

I stayed here last year on half board and really rated the Melia Benidorm. After this visit I have a different view. The hotel is nice, the food ok and the pool and gardens are very nice. The major let down is the so called all inclusive deal.
The drinks are very limited and premium brands are excluded. The spirits are disgusting- do not expect Spanish brandy, vodka etc as these are not allowed unless you pay. The local cavas are excluded as are any type of bottled soft drinks. Expect the cheapest nastiest spirits and wine and you won't be disappointed . The staff treat all inclusive guests and paying guests completely different. If your paying you are treated better. The snacks are pretty non existent.
We had a few of minor issues - raw meat, glass in the soup, poor service, no internet despite payment. The duty manager Raul was nice but unable to resolve our issues. Some of the bar staff were nice Joel, Fernando and Angel but others were stressed and grumpy.
Overall we had a good stay but I would say save your money and don't have AI

As soon as you walk into this hotel it just takes your breath away ! The main reception is absolutly beautiful - plenty of staff on reception to get you checked and up to your room.

Rooms great size with a fridge (that you don't have to pay for), we were on the 6th floor and have amazing views.

Pool is gorgeous and lots of beds to go around, also a big indoor pool aswell which was lovely !

Food at hotel was nice - pretty much the same as all hotels you stay at.

We got a good deal on this hotel - have been looking at booking up recently and its just too expensive - if the hotel was slightly cheaper it would by far beat any other hotel i've stayed in in the resort.
