Recommended by the chef of Atempo Weekend Bistrot, Archena. The restaurant room is fantastic, great atmosphere. Food was interesting, a mix bag. wanted the sharing menu but it was off and in its place Disfruta Del Mar en Totodos Tus Sentidos, sea food surrounded by pictures of the sea by artist Cristobal Pérez. Every course was "al curry" but we put a stop to that. seem to get too many crisps (or chips as they called them). Some good and different food. may come back another day. Reasonably priced and central location to the old town.

Seriously bad food with fine dining prices. It's almost like they thought 'well we have a magnificent place so why bother with the cuisine'. Very dissapointing experience.
They even refused to give us a glass of tap water ! Gives mediterranean food a bad name.

The Real Casino restaurant has, as my mother used to say, aspirations of grandeur. And it was built to be grand, back in the day. Casino’s of this type are not the gambling kind but more a social space and they were built from the early 1800s onwards in Spain. Originally more of a private club for the rich and powerful of a place, they became ubiquitous in the 20th century and can be found in most small villages and towns throughout Spain. This Casino was built to impress back in 1852 but fell into disrepair until a 10 million euro makeover in 2009. It is a beautiful building and now seems to be the town’s civic centre. The restaurant is housed in part of the ground floor and occupies a number of rooms, with a huge bar taking over the entrance space that is so 80s retro that it is almost interesting. But how anyone could have allowed such a monstrosity to be built inside such an elegant building is a bit mind boggling. The restaurant itself is in the large room next door, which might have been a ballroom. Tables are set with real tablecloths, napkins and proper glass wear and cutlery. However, with the high ceilings, mirrors and pockets of empty space, it feels cold and vacuous. The lighting doesn’t help, which is very bright and white. Nether did the stacked chairs at the back of the room, which tell you this is a multi-functional function room and, as such, feels a tad transient, like an up market train station lounge. But our experience was even more weird because we were the only diners there during our meal. We had a waiting staff of four, who came and went, and hovered. The meal itself was not fine dining. The experience was actually like a menu del dia, with nothing special and small portions, but much more costly. As the main course arrived, an event started next door in the ‘retro bar’. It looked like the Lord Mayor was present and that it might have been some sort of prize giving. They peered in at us and we peered out at them. Billed as a special place to eat, this establishment needs a total rethink to decide what it wants to be: a functions room, an upmarket restaurant, a bar. At the moment it is not fulfilling any role very well.

I went with my two sisters for lunch here at the beginning of September, we had the €25 per person tasting menu, we were not disappointed, different small dishes were brought at intervals, served by very attentive professional waiters. We started with seaweed bread, homemade mackerel pate, tomato, anchovy and feta salad, chocolate chilli mousse, homemade croquettes, they then brought bite sized squid stuffed with chopped prawns wrapped in crispy black ink bacon crackling, then a platter of pork loin finely chopped with a BBQ dressing, blackberries, sauté potatoes baby broad beans and sweet corn , then for dessert , raspberry sorbet with tiny cubes of white chocolate mousse, sponge and fresh raspberries. The meal was delicious and not overbearing in quantity. We had a bottle of house white and a litre bottle of water. The bill came to €89. It was not very busy which gave us a very attentive service. The only down side is that the public can wander in with their headphones to look at the architecture of the atrium where we sat, this did not detract from the experience though, we then had the good fortune to watch a flamenco demonstration being filmed by a tv programme. A nice afternoon as a special treat
