Lunch at La Cabana was superb.
I knew the area because of visiting the hospital but had no idea that the restaurant was just behind it. It is a strange location but I have been told it mainly caters for weddings and party functions in the evenings and at weekends, hence the lunch only opening (except Thursday evenings).
We had the "Menu degustacion" which consisted of 7 small hors d'oeuvres served in a variety of ways. A bit quirky and lots of fun. Then the meal started properly with a selection of 6 meat and fish dishes, not full size portions but a good taste of everything. And finally a pre desert, desert to die for and coffee and petit fours. There were lots of quirky things on the menu and I am sure the chef has a great sense of humor which is reflected in his menu. I cannot tell you how good the dessert was and I'm not even a fan of chocolate. Try it - Primavera
We also had the wine recommendations with each course. This consisted of a sparkling, white, 2 x reds and a sherry. All were good, except sherry - not to my taste. The Ribero del Duero was really good, I took a note of it.
The only thing that let it down slightly was the waiter service was not up to the standard we would have expected, a bit slap dash. Perhaps this is something that needs to be worked on. Although the maitre'd was very good. The chef came to our table at the end of the meal and I hope I was able to convey our feelings with my very poor Spanish. We arrived at 2.00pm and left at 5.00pm. It was relaxed and totally not rushed.
The meal was expensive by Spanish standards but not by British standards, we would easily have paid double the cost at home. The degustacion was €65 a head but with our wines, aperitifs and my husbands very expensive brandy, we paid a fair bit more. For a special treat it was really worth it.
Highly recommended and we will go back.
