Intimate and warm little restaurant run by two sisters who are very involved in your dining experience. In general, this could be a good thing. Food was good -- the oxtail and octopus salad both delicious. Homemade pasta also delicious. Did not love the bacalao with tomato sauce -- too fishy in taste for us, and we eat a lot of fish.
However, be careful in selecting this restaurant if you have young kids who are picky eaters or who may not enjoy the lengthy dining experience of a formal meal. Our experience was ruined by the overly obnoxious comments from the hostess who reprimanded us about our picky eater. On the plus side: they reluctantly agreed to make an existing menu item (fresh pasta with bacon and mushrooms) as plain pasta with nothing on it for our picky eater. We appreciated this gesture, and were willing to have him sit with no food rather than inconvenience the restaurant if it was too much trouble to make the plain pasta. (Which we explained in Spanish when we ordered. We recognized we were asking for a favor.). On the negative side: the hostess insulted our child, our parenting, and our unwillingness to force him to eat more diverse food at the restaurant several times. She justified these comments by saying she was like a grandmother, telling us what she thought. Our child was not loud, disruptive, rude, or in any way bothering any other diners in the small dining room, so her comments really were about her own personal feelings not about ensuring other diners in the restaurant had a nice time. Also when I did not care for the bacalao, so did not finish it, her comment was that Americans eat a lot of food ('always eat so much') so why wasn't I eating it. Essentially the insults-based service got old by the end of dinner. This would have been valuable information for us to know when booking the restaurant because I would not have chosen to make a reservation here had I known that they were not tolerant of kids.
Come here as a couple for a romantic dinner, or for a more adult dining experience -- the interactions with the sisters provides a unique experience of the culture, and I'm sure the hostess would be more enjoyable then.
