“Worth the effort”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

Great place but may take a little effort to understand the menu if you dont speak spanish. Get it right and you will be amply rewarded, get it wrong and you will get some unusual stuff. One thing you wont go wrong on is the wine, dont think the do anything thats even mediocre, all good.

“Delicious pinxos and best dessert!”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

Estay is a local pinxo bar. Pinxo is the basque version of the madrileño tapa. They have a different take and from my point of view more delicious and refined. So maybe that's why some reviewers say they didn't get the expected tapas. It very explicitly says Pinxo bar. The ambiance is fine, the pinxos very well made, better croquetas than in San Antón market. And my favorite dessert so far: Hojaldre de frutas del Bosque. Which is a phyllo pastry, dusted with sugar, filled withfresh whipped cream, a reduction of red berries from the forest, AND Violet IceCream. Wow! Super delicious.mmmm the best.

“Smart and soulless in barrio Salamanca”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

A dreary place that leaves me cold. Food and service is competent. Decor is...smart. Very "pijo" to use the local vernacular. What is the point of places like this other than to provide a meeting place for (wealthy) local people who wouldn't stoop to go to a regular tapas bar? Accordingly over-priced for a joyless dining experience. Unless your Prada rags matter to you more than enjoying life, then don't eat here. There are so many better options in Madrid

“Not the tapas we expected”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

We arrived expecting the best tapas in Madrid and unfortunately we did not get them. We tried alcachofas, croquetas jamon and croquetas de setas, morcilla de Burgos, timbal Rambo de toro and presa Ibérica ....nice but not outstanding.
We dined on the 1 st floor not on the ground floor were you can stand by the bar. The room was quite noisy and was full on a Friday night. The pricing is very reasonable.
