“Nice little flat for a good price in a great location - only the plumbing needs some work!”
Reviewed November 2, 2012

We stayed in Flat5 apartment around the corner from the hostel. The apartment was small, but very nice. Great location, on the corner of a lovely square, close to the subway, and a wonderful price. The staff at Flat5 were very kind and helpful - we loved them.

The only problem was the flat's bathroom! It was extraordinarily smelly when we arrived, even though it had been cleaned. The problem was the toilet, which wasn't working properly. We had to keep pouring bleach down the toilet to take care of the smell. This could be the apartment complex' fault rather than Flat5's, but it was a bit off-putting.

All in all, a great little flat for a good price - the only problem was the plumbing.

I found this hotel different from the rest of its category. Rooms are really small but clean and the furniture is modern. Every room is different.
The table in the room was a good point.
We loved especially the breakfast in the room; you have a great choice and they serve you at the time you prefer.
Also the situation of the hotel is very good to explore the city.

ok so yes rooms are little on the small side and the shower too but who goes to Madrid to sit in a room?? for the money we paid this was excellent accommodation close to metro link hot water in shower beds made daily friendly stuff and also air con which came in useful at night time. hotel also has free wi fi you can use in your room an provide you with map of city. i don't think you can moan for the price you pay if you just want somewhere to sleep and get showered and then go site seeing this place is brilliant if you want to sit in a room and moan its too small then look for a hotel not a bed and breakfast!!!

positives:
good location ( a 10 minute walk to Gran Via, 15 minutes to Sol, 40 minutes by metro to the airport), good value for money, welcoming and friendly staff, nicely decorated, air conditioner, free wifi

negatives:
small rooms, small beds, small shower, rooms and corridors often smelt of smoke, check in after 11 p.m. costs 12 Euros

After reading the critics I was waiting for a better service and rooms more cozy. I spent two nights in the end of July and I did not intend to repeat.
I booked well in advance and mention it was a birthday gift and asked they can booked a pleasant room for me, when I got there the room they gave me was super small and poorly decorated. There was barely room to get around the bed and reach the other side. The shutters do not close completely so when the sun born in the morning the room was fully illuminated. :-( The wallpaper was old and the exit bath rug which they gave us was dirty and had a lot of hair on it. The bathrooms could be cleaned more often.
The receptionist was friendly and helpful and gave us some good suggestions. However from 21h, 22h night the lady that stay at reception do not pass the informations to the receptionists what causes things to fail.
Despite the sympathy I do not have a good opinion of Flat5Madrid and do not recommend, especially given that Madrid have a lot of others hotels to offer.

Room Tip: Not the smal red room to the front oh the hotel.

Went there in july 2012 and we got it cheap and the hotel is nice, we had to walk a bit to go to Gran Via but it was alright. They have only spanish tv, and the internet was fine and the hotel is clean. We liked the stay and would go there again for this price :)

This was my first trip to Spain, and the next time I go to Madrid, I will definitely stay here!!! I stayed here for 5 nights in total, as Madrid was the central area in all of my travels. I filled out a shuttle request for pick up at the airport in Canada before I arrived, and the woman was waiting for me with my name on a card..the cost was reasonable, as a taxi would cost twice that amount..12 euros one way. When I arrived at the hostal, I was greeted very warmly, and given the explanation of breakfast procedures and other amenties. The staff speak both English and Spanish, which was a great help, as my Spanish is very limited. The room was very cute, with the towels decorated in the shape of swans.. such a nice, welcoming touch! The room was very clean, and although the bathroom is small, what bathroom in Europe isn't? Having airconditioning was fantastic, when it is 37 degrees outside..wifi works great too. Onto breakfast, you had your choice of what type of meal you would like.. I always chose the one with the ham, etc I could never eat it all, but it filled me up until at least 2pm Delicious, always, and the presentation was awesome..always flowers or some sort of decoration on the tray..lots of attention to detail. The community outside the hostal was residential, and there was a great little coffee shop 10ft down, where you can get coffees and other types of food and deserts Spanish people frequent this shop, so you know it is good...Women, there is also a clothing shop down the street where I bought a lot of clothing, again, spanish people frequent the shop, so it is not tourist prices, also a dollar store type store down the street, they call it the chinese shop where you can buy all sorts of things..Just great! also bank machine across the street, and metro close by, but you can hail a taxi easily...Back to the hostal, I found all the staff very friendly, and always willing to help with directions, recommendations, etc. I had to do some laundry while i was there, and they will do it for you for a small charge..they will only do laundry during the day though, as they don't run their washer at night, so as to not disturb other guests, which I thought was very considerate. In conclusion, I felt very safe and comfortable at Flat 5 Madrid, and travelling as a single woman, that is a good feeling. I stayed at a hotel in Barcelona, which had all the amenities a 4 star hotel would have in north america, however, it was cookie cutter type of hotel, which I dont like. Also, the staff at the hotel in Barcelona could care less, which is definitely not the case at Flat 5 Madrid. My next trip to Madrid, I will definitely stay here... Can't wait to come back to Spain! beautiful country, people, food and culture.

Room Tip: chose a room with private bathroom
