“Grieta meal”
Reviewed January 6, 2014 via mobile

The place is very nice and at a great location. The staff is very friendly and were prepared and willing to explain anything from the menu and to make some recommendations. The food was amazing and even though it is somewhat expensive you get your money's worth.

“The best experience I had in Madrid during this trip”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

Excelent food. For appetizer I recommend the Colmenillas filled with foie. They were incredible. The croquetas de fabada and the alcachofas en aceite de albahaca were also very good.
For main course we had the Pixin (fish) a la asturiana and the Solomillo asado de Buey con trufas negras. Both plates were really good.
Service was a bit slow initially, but later improved significantly. The bread was not good for a restaurant with these standards and is a bit expensive. This are the only two reasons why I did not give this restaurant a 5, but will highly recommended to anyone going to Madrid that wants to eat well.
The restaurant decor is good. The ambiance is a bit lame, but comes with the standard of the restaurant.

“Not bad but don't go specially”
Reviewed December 23, 2013 via mobile

In posh Salamanca area. They accomodated us even though we didn't book. Starters of seafood was good. Main course of beef & pork not inspiring & they gave me lamb instead of pork to start off with. They swapped it in the end but looked pissed about it. Staff kind of snobby but I suppose they are in a posh area so feel justified!

“Just as expected”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

Smack in the middle of the swanky Salamanca neighbourhood, El Paraguas is exactly what you'd expect from a restaurant in such a location: elegant rooms, attentive service and decent if not inventive food.
It's not cheap by Spanish standards but it's obviously a popular choice with the locals, especially men in suits and perfectly-coiffed ladies who lunch.
Although we had not booked and the place was packed, the very professional front of house staff found us a table near the bar.
Service was, as stated above, attentive and professional but it probably helps if you can speak Spanish.
As for the food, perfectly prepared standards, ranging from suckling pig to Asturian fabadas, oxtail meatballs to roast lamb. A highlight: sea urchin croquettes.
Recommended.
