In an era of increasing fast food outlets in this area (shame to see the number of taps bars that have closed down in this area in recent years) Casa Alberto remains as popular as ever and appeals to a wide variety of visitors. Over the years of visiting this bar I have never been able to sit down, had to push to the bar to get service, had to shout to get attention and also to pay - if you can handle these slight inconveniences you can be guaranteed good wine, excellent and unusual tapas, interesting people and fair prices. It certainly puts some other bars in this area to shame and provides an authentic taste of Madrid life.

Even you do not eat here then please visit for the best Vermouth in Madrid.
Their renowned "Vermout Grigio" is refreshing and excellent value at 2 euros a glass.
The food is probably more traditional Spanish with dishes such as Snails, Sweetbreads etc on the menu.
The restaurant is very traditional and is just one minutes walk from Plaza Santa Ana.
Its opening times are varied and it is closed on a Sunday evening.

we had high expectations for casa alberto after reading reviews here and on chowhound; however, we were terribly disappointed by everything we ordered; it was the worst meal we have had in memory.

Went here for tapas prior to a flamenco show and we weren't disappointed. Small place but wonderfully bustling and busy, certainly felt like we'd stumbled on a Madrid jewel. Food was as recommended by the waiter, who was superb. The food was delicious and generous. Best place we visited in the 4 day trip.

Really friendly owners and great, warmly welcoming service. Good food, big portions, maybe even too big if you took the starters as well. The sorbet dessert came surprisigly as foam in a champagne glass; nice thought though I would have preferred the icecream-like thing. We had a business dinner with about 10 persons in the table, and the waiter surprised us with four small bottles of different booze by the end of the dinner, to be mixed as one wills to small glasses; for free.
