Great food. Start with the Pho stew, and end with some lovely deep-fried soft-shell crabs. Maybe some tiger prawn rolls too.

One of my favorite foods is Vietnamese. I have eaten at many Vietnamese food at many restaurants throughout the world, but it was such a pleasant surprise to find Cafe Saigon in Madrid. The decor is very pleasant, the service was outstanding and the food was fantastic. They offer an al la carte menu and a set menu. After reading a few reviews we ordered from the normal menu. Once you sit down, your waiter will bring you 2 types of prawn chips with 3 different sauces. The Saigon spring rolls were wonderful. They serve it with the traditional lettuce, cucumbers, limes to wrap your spring rolls in. We also had the crab with bean sprouts salad, my husband was quite pleased with it. We then had the spicy squid and the softshelled crab and king crab tempura (which is made into a fresh spring roll). Be prepared its not a cheap meal, but it was very satisfying and we left fat and happy. We had taken a cab to Louie Vuitton and walked to the restaurant for lunch. We then walked back towards our hotel (which we were staying at Urban Hotel, near Sol Metro), which took us about 20 minutes.

Being our first time at this restaurant, my husband and I ordered the degustacion menu for 2, However we left feeling hungry because the portions were very small!. Everything was cooked to perfection and very well presented. However, we plan to go back in September with friends, but we will order off the normal menu which we noticed what most people were doing, obviously they had eaten there before and knew exactly what to order.

When I first went to this restaurant eight years ago I was blown away by the food, but it now seems like an average Chinese restaurant rather than an excellent Vietnamese one. We've been twice in the last year and both times were disappointing, so we won't be going back again. There are far better options in Madrid for this price.
