“Great place for family at a great price”
Reviewed August 26, 2010

As many people have already said, spacious rooms, nice staff and bit far. However also echoing another reviewer, the price and the comfort of the room makes up for the distance. Also the metro is so easy to maneuver in Madrid that it really wasn't a big deal at all especially since the metro stop is like 10 minutes walk only. The only complaint I have is the bathroom is tiny, you can't even open the door all the way. Poor design considering the rest of the room is so spacious. My teens loved the loft area. I love that we're together but not stumbling over one another!

You walk up the street of the hotel and take a left for the metro, along the way is a convenient store so you can grab bottle water at a non-tourist price. There is also a fruit store on the way. if you take a right there is a VIPs store/restaurant. These seem to be all over Madrid. Its like a 7 Eleven combined with a Friendy's. We ate late lunch there one day when we were too tired after coming back from El Rastro shopping.

The taxi ride will be expensive to/from airport but once again after that if you take the metro it is definitely worth it.

I randomly came across this hotel online, we were unsre at first and booked it anyway.. We stayed there for 5 days... I enjoyed my stay it is a modern but comfortable hotel... the pool is situated on the roof and it is very small but it did the trick most days we had the pool to ourselves and the weather was beautiful... i would reccomend this hotel to people that are looking to relax and get away or families or even for tourists that just want to rest thier heads...

This hotel is a great value for the quality! The rooms are very spacious and clean, and the free breakfast is very good. There are also a few nice pastry shops and grocery stores nearby. The staff are also very nice and polite. It is located off of the Ciudad Lineal metro stop in a nice, quiet neighborhood, and is around 30 minutes on the metro from the central area (Gran Vía, Sol, etc...).The good price and quality of the room make up for the distance 100%. Also, the air conditioning works very well (key for summer-time in Madrid!). ;-)

Our initial impressions of the hotel were good as the public areas look clean and modern. The decor of our triple room was the same and was minimalist with good quality furniture. The bedroom was quite large and had a fridge, microwave, breakfast bar and coffee maker as well as air conditioning. However, the bathroom was quite small and the sofa bed was a bit creaky and uncomfortable.

The breakfast, which was included in our room price because we booked online, was very good. Both receptionists we encountered were very helpful and friendly. The location wasn't an issue for us as we only stayed there one night but it is quite far from the centre, although near a metro station. It cost us €40 for a taxi to the hotel from the airport and around €20 to Plaza Mayor.

Overall we felt the hotel was good value for money for Madrid.

I stayed at Eco Alcala with my Mother, Grandmother and Sister from October 29- Nov 4. It is about a 25 minute train ride to Gran Via. We didn't mind it though. It was an interesting neighborhood and we liked visiting the nearby grocery store to pic up wine, cheese and fruit to have for a late night snack.

If you only have a short stay in Madrid I'd recommend staying at a hotel closer to Sol, but if you have at least 4 or 5 days I totally recommened this place.

Rooms: Very modern, clean and also energy efficient. We slept four adults very comfortablely.

Staff- Bilingual and very friendly. They helped us with directions and also information about a train to Segovia.

We never ate at the hotel. The prices seemed a bit steep compared to what you could get in the center of Madrid.

It's about a 10 minute walk to the Metro Stop Ciudad Lineal. We really enjoyed walking through the neighborhood and seeing the locals do their thing.

Restaurant recommendations:
Casa Toni- Amazing tapas. Try the Piemetos de Padron
Museo De Jamon - When I was there they had tapas for 1 euro and they were delicious
La Finca De Susana- Nice sitdown menu del dia lunch.

Overall a wonderful stay.

Stayed for five nights in mid-October and can highly recommend it. Big bedrooms - we had a family duplex - family-friendly, very pleasant virtually all female staff, and lovely breakfasts, cooked and continental. Breakfasts are free if you book via the hotel's website.
Only two minuses - it's well away from the city centre, although that's not really a problem as the metro is excellent. It's on green line 5, which has all the best stops. The bullring is close by, and a ride into the centre takes around 16 minutes or so.
Room service is very expensive for what you get. £8 for a cheese sandwich, similar price for a pizza that came up looking and tasting like the kind you over cook at home.
Still, don't let that put you off, even though the area its in is unattractive, but safe. Reception staff very happy to ring the key metro stations for top sights such as the Real Palace, museums, fabulous zoo, and Real Madrid FC.
A nice touch from the hotel, you can hire a DVD film from reception to watch in your room - 3.5 euros per night - and they bring up hot popcorn!
No hesitation in highly recommending the hotel. They also kindly let us have an early check in, and a late check out.

We landed in Madrid early morning on Christmas day expecting that we would have to leave our bags, walk around the city and return to check-in a couple of hours later. However, we were pleasantly surprised that our room was ready early, thus allowing us to check-in upon our arrival.

Upon entering our room, we were, admittedly, filled with excitement as it felt like we were getting a Christmas present. It was quite a large (and very fun) two-floor room, something we were not used to seeing in European hotels. On the first floor were the following: a small but squeaky clean bathroom, a kitchenette (with a microwave, espresso machine, refrigerator, sink, glasses, plates, etc), a two-seater eating area, a large working desk, a sofa (which we assumed converted into a bed for 2 as well), a coffee table, a delightful wooden chair, a small flat screen television, a large dresser and a king bed. Upstairs, there were two twin beds with a clean storage compartment which is pulled-out from the bottom and another small flat screen television. The room was configured so that either the people downstairs or upstairs would have some sort of privacy though staying within the same room. This is perfect for families traveling with children.

The rooms were cleaned every day, no problems there, although we were not sure if the plates and glasses were washed everyday as we barely used these. Food in Madrid is cheap, delicious and easy to find so eating out was no problem. As for comfort, the beds were cozy after long days walking around the city although the only complaint we had was that the walls were thin. We could hear some of our neighbors' kids wake up in the morning.

We never did try their breakfast buffet. It was somewhere around 12-17 euros a person if I remember correctly. We did see the breakfast area as it was close to the lobby though, unfortunately, not the food selection. The area looked clean, but that’s all we could gather from a quick peek.

In regard to the service of the staff, I would have to say that they are one of the friendliest I've encountered so far. I travel with paranoid folks who love asking the same questions thrice over. They were very patient with us, gave us maps, brochures and took the time to explain to us how we could get to the subway and other popular sights. When they couldn't answer a question, they tried to look for others who could or as a last resort, directed us to a tourist information center where the rest of our questions could be answered.

In terms of the distance from the city center, it's not very close (about 25 or so minutes away, could be longer actually), thus the affordable price. However, there's a convenient subway about 8-10 minutes walking distance from the hotel. Half the walk to the subway station can be an uphill battle, but the rest of the way is easy. Along the way, there are restaurants, bakeries, small specialty stores, even a salon. There's also a department store a couple of minutes walk away. Though the location is farther from the sites, it's a better place to commune with the locals and also a place to get non-tourist prices. Also, the area looks very safe and the hotel felt secure. If you comeback late at night, you have to buzz-in and they’ll let you in.

All in all, we had a very enjoyable holiday stay. Christmas in beautiful Madrid is quite the experience and the hotel certainly made it an even more pleasant experience.
