“With style but without chic”

We took this that hostal because of his Location. Its situated very close to the central squares like Sol and Plaza Mayor and (it was very important) its close to Atocha Rail Station. The nearest Metro Station is Anton Martin. But you have to know how to find that hostal because the signboard is very imperceptible. The hostal is situated on the 3 floor without any lift.
Rooms: all the rooms have differenet colors. We received the Blue Room. Its a small room. With TV and air-conditioner. The toilet is very narrow and it was not comfortable to enter inside it. Windows looks to the courtyard.
Breakfast its selfservice. In the fridge you can find some juices, milk with different fat content, yogurts, cheese and sausages. Also you can find cornflakes, bread, croissants and marmalade. All the time you can use a coffee machine.
+Good location, Wi-fi its free, in the hall you can find a computer with internet, staff its very friendly and competent. You have a key of the front door and don't need to worry how you will enter inside.
- Small toilet and a breakfast its really poor for the price we've paid.

Pros: Location, Location, Location - No better place to say. You are steps away to plaza del sol and several metro lines. Extremely easy to find. Tapas bars surround you and it's a great base camp for a trip around the historic section of Madrid. The staff are also extremely helpful and friendly.

Cons: Underwhelming decor. WiFi was down the entire stay. Breakfast was as minimum as you can get. A bit pricey for what is really is.

For a citytrip with friends, we had two apartments (one for the guys, one for the ladies). A noisy one streetside, a quiet one courtyard side. Remember this if you consider going here: streetview was very charming but noisy.

As said: good location and affordable. However, I must admit I had higher expectations. The shower will give you about one minute of hot water and the couch (4 person appartment) that is supposed to be serve as a queen bed, is rubbish. Dirty and uncomfortable. I guess the word 'chic' and a very slick website caused these higher expectations.

Still, staying in a little appartment with a bunch of friends is more fun than an anonymous hotel.

Don't expect much and you'll be fine.

Everything was pretty good! everyday cleaning, basic but good breakfast, variety of pastry and juices etc. When I arrived they gave me a good map, told me where to go.. the stuff is really perfect and HELPFUL in all ways. room was cool, nice and clean but there were a few spots on the green wall-paper. but that happens I guess.. And! there are some discounts if you book 3 weeks before etc, so it can be a great value too! generally i was really satisfied and I really would recommend it!

We stayed in one of apartments offered at the Colors location and although it was spacious enough, it lacked certain amenities that makes one's stay comfortable (and that you'd expect when renting an apartment.) The pillows were sub-standard and had to be supplemented with a towel, there was no duvet, just a sheet and some blankets in the closet, no hairdryer, no kettle, tea pot or coffee maker (they do offer coffee at the reception area, but the keys to the apartment don't open the reception door, so it has to already be open to access it), no tea towels and no broom. The all-white color scheme is a bit stark in the winter months, especially when the white walls are scuffed and dirty. Free internet was great, as was the location. We walked everywhere we wanted to visit in Madrid - a few minutes walk to the Prado, Botanical Garden, Reina Sofia gallery, shopping, Royal Palace, etc.

This [--] child of a chic boutique hotel and a backpackers hostel is something I would not return to.... In the future I would just prefer to spend a little extra money for something nicer. However, for the location it is extremely cheap and you do have a private bathroom. They also have a Nespresso machine you can use at much as you want

My complaints: walls were too thin and was frequently woken up, "do it yourself" breakfast was kind of gross (I don't trust the hygiene of other guests), shower didn't drain properly, toilet made horrifying sound that woke me up during the night, bed was extremely unfcomfortable, and the heater didn't work properly. Also the staff was indifferent and I didn't really feel I could complain to them. I paid 40 euros per night (best rate pre-paid) which is truely a bargain in a city where that is the cost of lunch.

A couple of friends were staying in the Chic and Basic in Barcelona and they showed me their room and I was very very impressed.

I was going for meetings to Madrid and saw they had a new one in there, so I canceled my previous booking and went with them instead.

I think I was staying at this hotel when they were just about finishing the construction, so the room still smelled like fresh paint. I was staying at a single room and it was rather small but not tiny. The room decoration was very minimalistic but nice.

The pros:

* Nice, new and neat
* Very central and good location
* Free and fast wifi

The cons:

* Breakfast was on a bag by the door (probably because they didn't have a kitchen yet?)
* If you want to hang out in the room, there's really not that much space

I'll give it another go next time I'm in Madrid.
