I stayed here in late October. The owner & manager, Maria, is very warm and friendly, but it felt the whole time like I was staying in the private home of a host family (albeit a pleasant one). In the evening, the TV was blaring, family members were having loud conversations in the hallways, and other travellers were nowhere to be seen. The room I stayed in itself - a private room with a shower and a sink (toilets were down the hall) - was clean and efficient, although fraying at the edges a bit, with faded sheets and discoloured wall paint and bath mat. There are no common areas (kitchen, lounge, whatever) to meet other travellers, so if you look forward to that as part of your backpacking experience, you will be disappointed. But the location is unbeatable - steps away from Puerta del Sol metro, centrally located downtown, and walking distance to everywhere.

I stayed in this hostel in May 2012 and the room had everything I needed (shower, basin). The toilets were outside but it was invariably clean. The landlady is very friendly and helpful. It gives a glimpse into Spanish 'simpatía'. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good service, a central location (close to Puerta del Sol - and the epicentre of the 15 M movement), and does not want to spend a too much on their budget in accommodation.

I stayed here in May 2011. It can be a pain with luggage. I made a reservation via the hostels email address. The woman that owns it was extremely friendly. She gave me wonderful directions to the hostel for the metro from the airport. Her son (i think) greeted us as we arrived to the front door. The rooms were very clean and had a nice fan during the summer heat. The room we stayed in had a beautiful balcony. Sol Center was a short walk from the hostel as well as many other attractions very close by. The ONLY downfall for this hostel were the stairs you have to go up.

Just a couple of blocks from Puerta del Sol, but quite quiet at night. Our room was simple, with a shower and sink in the room (toilets were down the hall). The place was very clean, and the feeling was homey. The owners live there, were helpful, and speak fluent English. The only downside is that the hostal is on the 4th Floor with no elevator. However, for 35 Euros/night for a twin room, this was excellent value for the location.

  • Liked — Helpful owners and cleanliness
  • Disliked — The number of stairs to climb!

The only downside to this hostel is that you have to go up a lot of steps. Otherwise, it was very nice and clean. Bathrooms are down the hall. In a very good location, near the Metro stop Sol. Owners speak English. I chose this hostel because it was recommended in a travel book called "Let's Go Spain & Portugal"
