“charming high-end B&B in central Madrid”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2011

was there a weekend in May 2010. great location. beautiful interior--palatial ceilings, everything restored to a high level of spec, but with modern eclectic touches. my room (zen room) was very quiet, though i was provided with earplugs--I imagine some of the rooms may be noisier as they overlook a central plaza. Nice, efficient, unobtrusive staff. would be great for a romantic trip. nice breakfast. only downside was it was a bit pricey for not being a true full-service hotel. (though certainly a higher level of service than a standard B&B)

My daughter and I wanted a centrally located intimate hotel for our visit to Madrid last week. Santiago who runs the hotel was extremely friendly and well-informed about the city. Nothing was too much trouble and he even went back to the Thyssen Museum to exchange a book I had mistakenly purchased in Spanish on the artist Antonio Lopez, so we could spend our last day exploring more of the delights of Madrid. Marta the owner was charming and has decorated the rooms very individually to create a unique, upmarket and aristocratic guest house.
All the restaurants and visits Santiago recommended were perfect and his enthusiasm and friendliness made our stay exceptionally pleasurable.

Room Tip: The Spanish room or Indian room are both lovely.

My husband and I spent two nights in the "India" room. The building that contains the hotel is rather interesting and well located, but I found the hotel to be a little "tired". Everything was clean, but for the price, I was expecting something a little more upscale.

I am quite shocked to read the bad comments on Casa de Madrid. My husband and I stayed 4 nights in this lovely guesthouse in April to celebrate our first anniversary and we enjoyed it so much!
We've stayed in lots of 5-stars hotel around the world, so we decided to have something special for our anniversary and we did really make a good choice!
At the beginning, my husband did complain about no one helping us with our luggages but once he stepped into the hotel, it was just a small issue. The decoration really made us feel like staying in a friend's luxury home. You can really tell the owner has a very good taste!
A dining room with basic kitchen quipment, then a huge living room with bacolny overlooking the plaza and a view of the Palace, the octagonal bedroom just made me feel so 'romance'. The bathroom is equipped with a huge jacauzzi which my husband did enjoy a lot! We slept so well with high quality ned linen and a really cool air-con. We didn't hear much when we shut the window. The room is just prefect for couples to escape from their busy life. Some ppl may complain about no phone in the room but it is just fine for us to have a real relax trip. Anyway there is free wi-fi so we used Viber/Skype/What's app, even better!
The breakfast in the Drawing room was lovely. The housekeeper, Maria, made us fresh toast, freshly brew tea. I just couldn't forget the taste of their homemade croissant, preserves and yorgurt! They were so yummy!
The staff were so friendly which made us feel we were a guest in their home! We met the owner, Marla, on the day we left, an elegant and well educated lady. I really don't understand why ppl said she is rude!
My husband and I highly recommend this luxury guesthouse to ppl who are looking for something really special, not just ordinary hotel! And we will stay in Casa de Madrid when we go to Madrid again. We had a peek in the Greek Room and Spanish room and we loved that so we will try them out!

We stayed two nights at Casa de Madrid, right after getting married in Madrid. We chose the hotel as we wanted something away from the mainstream hotels in Madrid, a special place for a special night -- and it was perfect! Also, we were upgraded to the Suite by surprise, the staff had laid a way of white rose petals leading to the room when we came back from the wedding party at 5am... Beautiful surprise! The room was extremely spacious, with a dining room, a huge living room, a bedroom and an en-suite small bathroom. Extremely comfortable, with a boutique hotel feel, the decoration is exquisite and makes you feel you are in a real home rather than in a hotel. We had a light breakfast in the morning and it was delicious (including the croissant -- which is unheard of in Spain!). Also, the staff was really kind, pleasant and very helpful. The hotel is very central with taxis available five meters away -- we could not have dreamed better! We highly recommend the hotel as a different and special hideaway in Madrid -- it will certainly make your stay memorable!

Amazing place to stay if you love to be in an european aristocracy style. The owner could not be more charming and interesting professional Lady.
The staff are always smiling and interesting to try you feel as you born in that house.
The building is XVIII century and considerate a National Monument as you see from the beginning.
Superb!!!

We felt that although quite chic and indeed charming in parts, the overall picture was a somewhat faded one.A poor breakfast of cold toast served on trays in sometimes awkward positions if busy, although set in an unusual salon, was not a pleasure. Also the rumblings of the metro we assume, somewhere deep below ground are heard frequently.Earplugs are provided,so i suppose the clue to a noisey hotel is there.
On the plus side ,the staff are helpful and always smiling, but the owner is rather aloof and i suppose rude in a chic, faded charming way.Overpriced but fairly central in this bustling Spanish City.So if you are slightly deaf, like cold toast and dont mind rudeness, stay here.
