As others have mentioned, the location of this hotel is great – very close to the Atocha station which is one of the airport bus stops (only 5 Euro to go from the airport into the city), so it’s only a short walk to the hotel. It is also quite near the Prado, Sofia-Reina and Thyssen-Bornemiza museums as well as the Botanic Gardens and Retiro Park, and an easy 15 min walk to the central part of the city. Our room was more spacious than we anticipated with a lovely décor and large bathroom. As budget travelers, we didn’t partake in the breakfast which would be more money and more food than we could eat, but there were several cafés (Uvepan, for one) that were within a couple of blocks to get a simple bite with morning coffee. The hotel was spotless, staff friendly and we loved our stay here, finding it an exceptional value for the price.

Fine position on Calle Atocha, just off the noisy traffic roundabout by the station but easy walking distance to metro, the airport bus (which has suddenly risen to 5 Euros instead of 2) and mainline trains to the South.

Rooms look clean and modern with wood laminate floors, dark panelling and red/silver drapes - but the bed is firm and has no 'pillow top' mattress, towels are thin and already washed to death, the curtains don't meet in the middle, there's a penetrating 'emergency' light which shines bright yellow all night, the door frame is already rotting at the bathroom threshold and the flat screen TV is smaller than your computer.

Talking of computers, THERE IS NO FREE WI-FI IN THIS HOTEL, not even in the lobby, and with charges of a minimum 4 Euros for one hour or 12 Euros per day, this adds significantly to the room rate, and shows how far behind the rest of the world is the Spanish chain HUSA. Internet costs you almost nothing, stop charging for it. If every guest paid 12 Euro a day, in a hotel this size, that's a million euros a year extra profit ... disgraceful.

You can get free WiFi at McDonalds on the corner, or in the very nice bar/restaurant Los Zuritos across the street.

Again back in the hotel, breakfast is an exorbitant 19.70 Euros, for a pretty poor buffet in a dismal, viewless room. The gym isn't up to much, either and the 'bar' is just a few chairs in the otherwise brightly-lit and atmosphere-free lobby.

Next door to the hotel is popular club Kapital, with a noisily young clientele who gather to queue on the pavement outside the hotel for entry, and to vomit on it after closing time.

The staff are polite but cold, no offer of help with luggage, struggled to make restaurant recommendations, seemed put out at being asked to print out an e-ticket emailed to the hotel, and limited in their knowledge of Madrid and its transport or tourist facilities.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, ask for one facing Calle Alameda - the view is of a derelict building, but you won't hear the traffic or the club customers

Dear Guest:

We thank you very much for your feedback, your comments will help us to improve.

We have taken good note of all the points you mention and the staff involved has been informed about your appreciations, as we work accurately to reach the standards of quality we desire for all our guests.

We think that the Hotel has a perfect location in Madrid very close to the most important Art Galleries, Puerta del Sol, the AVE train station, and perfectly connected with the rest of the city and surroundings. Due to this privileged situation in a so dynamic area is inevitable that occasionally we are affected by specific events in the area. However, the hotel has rooms with different orientations, particularly the rooms facing “Las Letras Square” are particularly quiet, and we hope you have the opportunity to know them in a near future.

It is also a pleasure to inform you that we have reconsidered the wifi fee, and this service is now free for all our customers.

We look forward to welcoming you in the future so you can enjoy ongoing improvements we made thanks to the feedback from our customers.

Best regards

Overall, a pleasant stay. The hotel offers a good, comprehensive breakfast, stylish decoration and conveniently located to major museums and station. However, wifi is not free and comes at an exorbitant price, either 6euros+ tax for one hour, or 12 euros plus tax for 24 hours. It adds significantly to the cost of the stay ESP if staying several nights. Staff were pleasant, but diffident and reserved. Little cafe is slow, and restaurant opens at 8pm which doesn't always suit travellers.

This hotel is 2 blocks from the Prado Museum (about a 8 minute walk), next to the Reina Sophia, and about 6 to 8 minutes from the Atocha Train Station. I booked this hotel for a weekend specifically to be near the Prado and couldn't have been happier. I had been traveling in Europe and was tired of dealing with small showers and weird room lay-outs. The interior of this hotel is minalmiist and modern with a nice bar and eating area, and attentive service. The rooms are nice sized, great bedding and piillows, fantastic showers/tub, flat-screen, etc. The front desk was very helpful with maps and tips. Our room was on the 6th floor, we stayed during the Euro Cup - the city was filled with people celebrating and there was a heat wave. Our room was quiet and cool. At the end of the day, when your senses are on "musuem over-load", this was a perfect place to return. This hotel was one of the best values for my Euro (although wi-fi was not included in the price).

Room Tip: This hotel has a great location for visiting museums.
