“A great place in Madrid”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2009

Staying at this hotel makes your trip to Madrid worth it! We were not going to even go to Madrid only Valencia and Barcelona. After staying here we are thinking of returning just to stay in the same place again. We were there mid week and heard from the hotel staff that it is even better in Summer or on the weekends, particularly Fri and Sat nights. What a place to party!

My husband and I stayed in this hotel last month and loved it. The location was great. It was within walking distance to Plaza Mayor and the park. The room was clean and the people were friendly. The free breakfast next door was pretty good too. i would reccomend this hotel for any type of traveler!

My husband and I enjoyed a 4 night stay in late September. We echo other reviews: cannot beat the location; although near the lively Plaza Sta Ana, the hotel is well soundproofed to the outside; interior walls a bit thin but not too bad; rooms a bit tight but not uncomfortably so; cannot say enough good about the friendly and helpful staff - they went out of their way to be helpful and to make good restaurant recommendations. Nice value with the buffet breakfast next door.
We also stayed at a Roomate in Salamanca. Similar but not as "hip."
We like the minimalist - modern hotels without a lot of fussiness, but it won't be for everyone. If you can live without some of the big hotel trappings (large granite vanities, spacious rooms, room service, etc.), Alicia can't be beat.

I've stayed in this hotel 4 times and have always been delighted with the service and quality. the location in Plaza Santa Anna is excellent and both of the duplex rooms on the top floor with large terrace and small plunge pools are exquisit. it may not suit some grumpy old american who fails to appreciate the finer things in life, but anyone below the age of 50 with a European taste will love this hotel

My wife and I stayed for 3 days in September. The best features of the hotel are: 1) Friendly and helpful staff - cannot be underestimated when you are in a new city. 2)Amazing location - within walking distance from Museums El Prado and Reina Sofia, Parque El Retiro, Renfe train station, Puerta del Sol, etc, etc. 3) Excellent Value for the money.

Downsides: Walls are very thin, and it can get noisy when you are trying to rest.

Aside from that, the rooms are small, but comfortable, the breakfast is good, especially considering it is included in the price of your stay.

This is a gem of a hotel ! The hotel is small - around 30 rooms or so giving it a personal yet unintrusive appeal. It is tastefully modern and perfectly located in the interesting old quarter of the city right on the popular and buzzing Plaza St Ana with just short walks to the main sights. The room we had was an interior one and as such had no view but this was more than compensated for by the quietness at night. The fittings were very modern and stylish and the bed extremely comfortable. The shower is separate from the toilet area and accessed from the bedroom which some might not like but we found it fine as the shower door is stylishy obscured and the fittings very smart. The water was hot and plentiful with plenty of pressure.
The staff were excellent. very friendly and accomodating. Kevin on reception is an exemplar of what hotel reception should be. He was welcoming, very helpful with a number of enquiries and smilingly friendly and courteous throughout.
The breakfast is taken from the adjoining cafe/tapas bar. This too, is modern and very attractive. the breakfast is buffet style with an excellent choice and sufficient to 'set you up' for a day of exploring. The food was of a high quality and here too the staff were cheerful and polite.
We found Madrid a fascinating and vibrant city and enjoyed the leisurely strolling around the narrow streets stopping at the numerous cafes and tapas bars etc. The city really comes to life at night and buzzes in a lively and non threatening way.
If visiting Madrid and you have the opportunity then take the time to visit Toledo which is only 30 minutes away by the high speed train. The train leaves from the 'Estacion de Antocha' which is a 15 minute walk from the hotel. The fare was 15 euros return and the train runs approximately every two hours. Take note however that this is a very popular service and the train gets full so it is advisable to book and buy your tickets in advance. Be warned though that Toledo is hilly and may be difficult for those who have difficulty in walking. The city is around a 15 minute walk from the station but there are buses that run from the station.
We made our own way from Madrid airport to the hotel using the amazingly efficient and clean metro system. There are a couple of changes but this is straightforward and the journey only costs 2 euros! Journey time from airport to hotel via the metro is around 40 minutes. A tip - leave plenty of time when catching the return flight from Madrid as the check in procedures at the airport are lengthy.

My family and I recently stayed at the Room Mate Alicia in Madrid. My husband and I stayed in a Jr. Suite, and my children stayed in basic rooms. I must say that I expected much better beds in such a well outfitted hotel. All the modern amenities were there; internet, music, smart wiring, etc...except the bed was so hard that I was unable to sleep. I checked out my children's rooms as well, and the same thing applied there. When I asked the front desk for a foam mattress or some kind of pillow top, they told me the hotel did not offer that, and I was instructed to place one of the blankets in the room under the sheet for comfort. Perhaps that would've been fine had the blanket been quilted or a down comforter, but it was a thin acrylic blanket. I even tried putting two blankets under the sheets with no success. The springs kept coming through no matter what I did. The hotel would not change the mattress, and even though I was there for four nights, they did not even attempt to do anything about it. I might add that I am a frequent world traveler and this was one of the worst beds along with an uncaring hotel attitude I have experienced. A hotel may be centrally located and attractive, but if one cannot sleep, what good is it? This is sad for the hotel as it is nicely located, has friendly staff, and has attractive modern large rooms, however, they could do much better for their guests.
