My wife and myself have recently returned from staying 5 nights at The Room Mate Alicia in Madrid. We booked a Junior Suite on the front of the hotel, and were not dissapointed. First things first, the staff were absolutely first class, nothing was a problem to them, I mean nothing. This hotel is idealy situated for literaly anything, from shopping on the Gran Via, to visiting museams and castles and anything further there are taxis galore outside the hotel. The breakfasts were adequate hot or cold. The suites are nicely furnished if a bit quirky in the washing and toilet arrangements, the bath being separate in the room, this was no bother as we both prefer showers. The views of the square were really good and you can sit and watch the world go by.The only downside was that being in 103 you could here the automatic doors of the hotel and adjoining resturaunt opening and closing at all hours. The rest of the soundproofing from the outside was wonderful.I would definately recommend this hotel but book a junior suite on the second floor. Finally this is one of the best 3 stars I have stayed in

Room Tip: The corner suites are large airy and light, but if your a light sleeper pick a suite on the second f...

My husband and I recently (literally 2 days ago) stayed at the Room Mate Alicia for 3 nights and we were completely satisfied with our stay! We booked a Jr. Suite and are happy we did because we don't travel lightly and it's often difficult for us to situate our luggage in hotel rooms. We stayed in room 303 and our room had a great view of Plaza Santa Ana. We arrived about 2 hours before check-in and were able to leave our luggage at reception while we briefly toured the town and grabbed a bite to eat. We were informed by reception that our room was still in use, but that they would send house keeping up to our room as soon as the guests checked out. The day and evening receptionists were very friendly!

There are many tapas bars and restaurants in the area. We usually didn't need to go far to grab a bite to eat. The hotel is also located within walking distance of the many "must see" sites (i.e., Prado Museum, Parque del Retiro, Plaza Mayor). We grabbed a taxi cab to drop us off at the Palacio Real de Madrid, but ended up walking back to the hotel. There is so much to see that it didn't feel far at all. As for hailing a taxi cab, the hotel is in a prime location. Taxis go by every few minutes. On the morning we check-out of the hotel, we didn't bother calling a taxi in advance because one happen to be driving as we were walking out. Awesome!

Back to reviewing the hotel, the hotel offers a nice selection of breakfast items, from more typical Spanish breakfast dishes such as Tortilla de Patata (tastes like hash browns with more of the texture of a quiche, but with nice slices of potato), but you can also choose from a selection of pastries, toasts, meats (e.g., bacon, ham), cereal, and different types of milk. I was excited to see soymilk! Breakfast is set up in the restaurant next door, but no need to leave the building. There is a door in the lobby that takes you right to breakfast.

My husband and I were a little skeptical about the bathroom set up because it is only divided by a "muro" from the rest of the room. To be honest, we were more concerned about whether or not we would have much privacy when one of us "had to go." There is a sliding mirrored door that separates the toilet from the rest of the bathroom, it offers the needed privacy, but not much sound proofing should you require it. Hehe. Our room also had a soaking tub next to the large window, there are curtains and shades that you can close for privacy, but we honestly didn't make any use of the tub. The room didn't come equipped with an iron or an ironing board, but reception was kind in enough to let us borrow the 1 iron and 1 ironing board they had in house. They told us that we could keep it in our room unless it was requested by another guest. No one ever requested it and we kept it in our room throughout our stay. That's great for us.

There are only a few minor negatives, such a some stains on the carpet (but understandable since we wouldn't expect the hotel to steam clean our carpets prior to us checking in), no towel hook outside of the shower (you need to walk out of the shower to get your towel, which isn't a huge problem, but it doesn't feel too pleasant after taking a nice steamy bath), and last but not least, the "not so private" toilet.

When we reserved this hotel, we were a little unsure because of 3 stars. But it was great to notice that it was better than most of the 4 stars hotel we were stayed. Maybe it is only 3 stars because for example conference rooms and gym are missing. Well, we don't need gym since we walked 116 km during the week. It is the best way to get familiar with the new place.
When we arrived, first impression was really positive. Nice small lobby and very helpful receptionist. He called to housekeeping and room was ready in 15 minutes. This kind of service you only get in small hotels.
We had duplex suite with two floors and big terrace. Room was clean and very nice.
Downstairs there are couple of sofas, table with chairs, tv, dvd player and terrace so 9 places to sit inside and 8 outside. Enough for two. :) Terrace was absolutely wonderful. Sun was shining all day and there was a small pool with cold water. Pool was perfect after long walk to relax your feet.
Upstairs there are bed, tv, cd player and wc/bathroom. Bed was very good and lot's of extra pillows were available. Bathroom faciliteas were as they should and wide variety of goods were available.
There is quite new restaurant downstairs (Miss Sushi) and breakfast was in same place. Breakfast was good and there were enough varietes. Every 20 minutes someone from personnel brings different kind of "pinchos" so you can get warm sandwiches etc. It was nice. We also eat once in Miss Sushi (Menu del Dia) and food was good.
Staff were very helpful and kindly. Housekeeping did exellent job and all places was clean and shining.
Many reviewers were complaining about noise. Of course there are a little noice when you are in the middle of the town next to place, where are lot's of restaurant and bars. We knew this before (by reading it from here) and brought some ear plugs with us. We needed those only in first night because it was the day when Atletico de Madrid won Spanish La Liga. People were celebrating till morning. We didn't need ear plugs in other nights, because room was quiet enough for a good sleep.

Overall it was very pleasent holiday in Room Mate Alicia. We love Madrid and we loved Alicia. We certainly will come back soon and our choise will be Alicia again!

And yes, Location is perfect. It could not be better!

Room Tip: If you choose Duplex Suite, you will certainly like it. Sun is shining all day to terrace and you ca...

If you are a museum first traveler, this hotel is centrally located to all of them. Santa Ana Plaza is lovely with many types of dining right outside the door. Quiet, fast wi-fi, good full breakfast, helpful staff. The only negative is a bathroom without separate doors and toilet use is audible to everyone in room.

This was our favorite hotel stay of our two week trip throughout Spain. We upgraded to the corner junior suite and were not disappointed!!! The room was huge and very clean. We had a great view of the plaza from our room. Even though we were right off the square, the rooms have two rows of double glazed glass to keep the noise out. We only heard some slight outdoor noise, which had zero negative effect on us. The location is outstanding! We could walk to the train station and to all of the major attractions easily. The staff was very pleasant an spoke perfect english. The breakfast was the biggest surprise of all....simply AMAZING!! You will not be disappointed if you book this hotel. We'd recommend it to all of our friends.

Room Tip: If you want to view the square action, upgrade to a corner junior suite. We loved coming back to ou...

We (2 couples about 60years old) were very pleased with the hotel. The location is central, witch means you can visit Madrid only by walking. The reception at arrival went smoothly and we received rooms with a view on the second level. The rooms were modern, clean and spacious.
Every morning the breakfast was perfect. The rooms were always perfectly cleaned when we came back in the evening.
A special mention to the reception, Pablo, who advised us many times with local insider information for our stay! A real gentleman.
If we go back to Madrid, this will be our hotel destination for sure.

Room Tip: Ask a room with a view.

Fantastic location right on the corner of Plaza St Anna. It's a part of Madrid with lots of great restaurants and nightlife.

Rooms are large and have plenty of character. Mine was on the second floor and had a view of the Plaza which was great in the evenings as it came to life.

I dealt with several different staff on the front desk and they were all very helpful with requests. Checking out an hour overtime was no issue at all.

Wifi was excellent.

Would definitely stay here again.
