“Trendy Hotel close to the Metro”
Reviewed October 12, 2012 via mobile

The hotel is very unique and close to the metro which makes getting around the city easy. Check out the club on the 13th floor on Saturday nights. Book the breakfast buffet which is well worth it. Cured Spanish meats, pastries, eggs fruit, to many different breads to count. The only negative was that the wifi signal was week in our room.

We booked this through priceline for a one night stay before a flight. We were put in a room on the 8th floor and felt as though we had just been placed in the psych ward. The white everything (floors included) made for a very cold feeling room. The shower was in middle of the room and the beds was very, very uncomfortable. We called the front desk requesting a room change and were told that they could not accommodate as the hotel was full. The elevators was unbelievably slow and always crowded. We decided to take the stairs after waiting for 10 minutes for the elevator- only to be locked out of every floor and having to walk through the then closed restaurant to get back to the lobby. The location of the hotel is not convenient for exploring the city. The lobby level bar was just about the only positive of the hotel, much better than the nightclub that's housed on the top floor...

Dear Customer,

We are really sorry to hear that you have not enjoyed your stay at the 8th floor, the rooms in white designed by Kathryn Findlay, uses to be one of the favourites floors for our guest, the romantic room has an open bath with some details like a place to put the champagne, the idea is to enjoy the greats views of the Madrid’s skyline while you are having a shower…

Thank you very much for your review.

Kind regards,

Valeria Knop

The first thing that came out of my mouth when we got the keys and entered our room was WOW!!!
Everything was modern and special. I never saw such a hotel room. It was specially designed by David Chipperfield .Actually every floor was designed by a different designer. Since we got rooms on the 3rd floor our room was designed by ChipperfieldIt ,in grey and white and was extremely modern. The bathroom was Spectacular .
The bed was large and comfortable. There were many soft towels. There is also a pillow menu that you can choose from without any additional cost. The hotel provides the guest with bathrobe to use during their stay. There is a light and drape electronic device, which is quite cool.
However there are a few down sides to this hotel.
1- Although it is near the Metro, it takes quite a while to get downtown
2- The room was very fancy and modern, but it was not cozy.
3- There was not enough storing space
4- There was no room to open the suitcases, and eventually I opened it on the floor since there was to devise to put it on.
5- In the morning the room got filled with cooking smells that were really unpleasant.
I can summaries and say that it was interesting and fun to stay there for one night only, however if we had to stay longer I would probably prefer a more central location.

My room was on the 2nd floor, very spacious, bright, modern, stylish, with a huge bed, very clean. A lot of high tech gadgets in the room to adjust windows, curtains, lights, aircon...

I especially loved all the design features like the eliptic shaped in the room integrated glass & steel shower with massage jets and cream leather covered walls & doors, loooooong sink counter that lights up, round mirrors with light lights, 2 sinks!! Also great the big range of toilettries, fluffy towels & robes, pillow menu. Great Spanish breakfast with a lot of choice. lovely bar beside the reception, close to the airport, good service.

Room Tip: second floor is nice, but every floor is designed differently but best check with hotel beforehand

This hotel is an architectural delight, with each floor having its own stylish, unique design. I just spent a weekend there with my teenage daughter. Thanks to the front desk staff who were extremely friendly and helpful with restaurant bookings and metro advice. Cool retro bar, top floor gym and pool, and excellent terrace resto. It's simply COOL.

I am glad we stayed at the Silken Puerta America Hotel, but I have a few words of wisdom for those who have not. First of all the name isn't on the outside of the hotel, but it's easy to find because it's 15 stories high and it's orange. At night, it looks even brighter. We used a TomTom GPS and it could not find the address. My suggestion is that if you use the bus or metro, look for this hotel to be away from the other hotels in the area. We asked locals and they didn't seem to know where it was, but the front desk workers at the Marriott did. Second, don't stay here for your whole stay if you plan to be downtown in the action. Instead, book for your first or last night as it's close to the airport and you really will enjoy the uniqueness of the hotel for one night. Staying too many nights is a bit frustrating because your room will be too dark or too light or just too far from the city. Third, be sure and ask about the hotel tour, it's fastinating to see all the different floors and many of the rooms.
We did not use the gym and pool as it seemed a little small and silly, but we did eat in the restaurant for dinner and it was very good. Also, it opened a little earlier than some of the other restaurants. Did not eat breakfast at the hotel as it seemed a little expensive, but didn't find much in the area, either!
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Most spoke English very well, too.

Room Tip: The air conditioner will not come on if the window is open. We didn't realise our window was ope...
