I went to Madrid by myself. I chose Silken Puerta America, because of its space theme rooms. I stayed on 8th floor all white space theme room as I expected. The first thing I got there was taking the elevator to check each floor's decorations. On the 4th floor, I met another family who were also doing the same thing. Very pleasant experience! I also had dinner by myself in their ground floor restaurant LÁGRIMAS NEGRAS RESTAURANT. Fine French food. Very delicious! Recommended by Michelin Guide (don't remember which year). I highly recommend this hotel to everyone if it fits in your budget.

So if you ever read design magazines, much less if you are a designer or architect, you want to stay here at least a few days. When you check in they show you the rooms that are available for your room type by designer. But ask to see the rooms themselves, because the pictures are actually not very helpful. Our room was much more boring in person than it appeared in the image. And part of the thrill is the lobbies--some of the more avant-garde ones are worth the trip. You can access all of them, but I think staying on that floor would make a difference to you.

It's a luxury hotel, so the amenities are not cheap, but the service was excellent. Things were starting to fray around the edges here and there--might be time for some repainting and new bedspreads, but that's what happens with high design.

And if your dream is to walk out the door of your hotel and into the Prado, don't stay here. But if you don't mind hopping the very easy, cheap, and convenient metro, you're a short walk from one of the main interchange stations (Av. America) and a shorter walk from a line that connects to it). Plus that walk takes you past another architecture/design wonder, the Torres Blancas apartment high-rise by Saenz de Oiza.

We were here for 3 nights in early June, and had an excellent experience. At check-in, you're shown a gallery of rooms on each floor on an iPad - important as each floor is designed by a different architect and they're all quite distinct from each other. We stayed on the Isozaki floor, and the room was very relaxing and great for sleeping late, as it was so dark.

The hotel staff are where the property really shines. From check-in to check-out, every interaction with hotel staff was fantastic - in the lobby, the bars, etc.

What do they do well:
Breakfast is good (general continental breakfast options: eggs, cheese, bacon, fruits, etc), rooms are lovely, reception is helpful, free wifi, good night sleep in complete darkness and quiet and nice bar area (although it is a bit too close to the highway....they should plant some trees to separate it off a bit more).

Areas that need improving:
No free water, dvd player, no movies on demand, no free coffee in room, no turning the bed down, tiny gym (one treadmill, one stationary bike and couple of dumbbells of max 10kg) and non ideal location (30 mins from centre of Madrid by underground, 15mins by cab).

we stayed at the Silken for 3 nights in june for a short break, the hotel is only 15 mins from the airport and 20mins into madrid centre via the metro which is only 100 yards from the hotel. the staff were friendly and helpful as was the check in desk. they give you a choice of room via an ipad slide show so you know what type of room you are getting before lugging your bags up the lifts. we stayed on the 9th floor facing the city and the view is something to cherrish. a must is the 13th floor with night club, swimming pool a small gym and sauna.
very pleased with the overall package

Room Tip: ask for the ipad slide show to choose your room

I have had great times at this hotel. Everything is as one would expect. The service is tremendous, the facilities are top notch, the design is wonderful and the metro is only a few steps away. I stayed here in June and August of last year (neglecting my tripadvisor duties).

The first trip I stayed on Kathrin Findlay's 8th floor. When the elevators open you are transferred into another world.

My second trip I stayed on Ron Arad's 7th floor. Same experience again upon exiting the elevator.

The rooms are comfortable, stylishly designed and so amazingly different. The Attic (13th floor) is a great place & has a fantastic pool, bar and fitness center. There is always a number of people at the bar downstairs & has always been a great place to relax and meet people before heading out for the night. The restaurant is delicious. I have not found any faults with this hotel. I have always been treated very well and will continue to stay here when in Madrid. It is hard to describe how unique this hotel is. I suggest one visit the website to gain a better perspective.
