“Beautiful Gardens”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2011

Beside the Palacio Real are the Sabatini Gardens. Francesco Sabatini was the court architect and he designed these gardens, as well as the Palacio Real. His origin was Italy. The gardens were built much later (1933) than the palace, built in the 18th century. The style of this garden is neoclassic and the designs are very symmetrical with fountains, trees, bushes, and flowers. The trees and bushes are trimmed into geometrical shapes. Peace and quiet reign in these gardens and it is a perfect place to relax after seeing the palace.

“Surprisingly fun for kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2011

The Sabatini Gardens are right next to the Royal Palace. They are neither as impressive nor as lovely as the formal gardens of the Retiro park. What they do have is short, maze like hedge rows. And this is why the kids love them. The gardeners have cut small entries in so that the rows can be maintained. They are the perfect size for kids to get in and run through the rows. On a lovely day, children are chasing and running all through the hedges of Sabatini in their private mazes. Good fun, and a nice way to get out some energy. Plus the gardens themselves (the former stable area of the Palace) are cool and shaded enough for parents to relax while their children blow off some steam. What's not to love?
